LEAVITT
MARGURITTE PETERSON LEAVITT, passed away at Lee Crest in Cardston, Alberta on March 5, 2016, a little more than one month before her 100th birthday. She will join her husband, DeVere, who passed away four years ago at the age of 98, and her parents and siblings.
She is survived by her children: Sheila (Don) Pierson, Ferrin (Linda) Leavitt, Jenny (Ken) Baker, Barton (Alonna) Leavitt, Royce (Marina) Leavitt, 31 grandchildren, 100 great grandchildren, and 18 great great grandchildren.
Marguritte was born April 10, 1916 in Welling, Alberta to John Christian Peterson and Genevra Ferrin. Her family moved to Kimball, Alberta when she was eight years old. She married DeVere and moved to Leavitt, Alberta where she raised her children and lived most of her life until moving to Chinook Lodge and then to Lee Crest a few years ago.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many positions. She especially loved her Young Women. She and DeVere served a mission to India. They also served many years as temple workers and patrons. Her favorite thing was to attend the temple with her family.
Marguritte was a hard worker. She loved to keep her house neat and clean and was still raising a garden at age 90. She was always ready to serve her family and others and entertained many people in her home. Wherever they went, she and DeVere would make new friends and invite them to visit them in Alberta, and many came. She loved people and was always concerned about helping in any way she could. She especially loved her family and right to the end wanted an accounting of children, grandchildren and their families. She was always grateful for everything anyone did for her, and didn’t want to “be a burden.”
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leavitt, Alberta on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Friends may meet the family at the Church from 2:00-2:45 prior to the Service. Interment to follow at the Leavitt Cemetery.
