GILLETT

EDNA “GRACE” GILLETT, beloved wife of Joseph Gillett Sr. of Lethbridge, AB, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the age of 86 years.

Besides her loving husband of 66 years, Grace is survived by her children Connie (Rick) Larson, Sandra (Scott) Jeffery and Joe (Wendy) Gillett, all of Lethbridge as well as her precious grandchildren Nicole, Ryan, Gage (Amy) and Deanna (Dustin) and great-granddaughter Opal. Grace is also survived by Carol (Kurt) Zittlau of Edmonton, June (Cliff) Haiste of Prince George, B.C., and Cecil Bye of Calgary.

Grace was predeceased by her parents Earl and Edna Bye, sister Emma Johnson, Shirley Bye-Singh, Esther Lutz and brother George Bye.

Grace was born February 13th, 1930 in Lethbridge and she always said number 13 was her “lucky number” for this reason. Grace was raised in the Milk River district and attended Masinasin School. After moving to Lethbridge, she worked several jobs including a long career with the Department of Health at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. Mom met Dad at a dance at Trianon Hall in the early years and were known for their dancing abilities. They married in 1950 and went on to raise three children. Grace retired from her job at the age of 55 and immediately took up golfing at Henderson Lake. Grace was very active with the Ladies Fraternity of the Eagles Lodge and also spent many enjoyable hours at their cabin at Beauvais Lake. Grace and Joe spent many winters in Arizona, where they connected with friends and family; always keeping on the “go” with golfing and socializing events.

Mom always made guests feel welcome and had many gatherings in their home. Her list of hobbies and interests was extensive, from baking her own bread to beading angels. She kept busy crocheting baby booties and afghans, all of which she freely shared with others. She had a love for reading and painting, and many friends and relatives received her hand-painted cards.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors involved with her care as well as the health care workers at the Chinook Regional Hospital and Fairmont Extendicare facility. Mom was always cared for with the utmost kindness and respect. The love Mom shared for family and friends and her absolute joy in living will forever be with us.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Bob Wallace officiating.

A Private Family Interment will be held prior to the Celebration of Life at Mountain View Cemetery.

In memory of Grace and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
