CAHOON

EDNA RICHARDS BAKER CAHOON of Cardston, Alberta, Canada left this life June 26th, 2016, just 27 days short of her 97th birthday.

Edna was born in Leavitt, Alberta on July 23rd, 1919 to Samuel L. and Janet (Richards) Baker. Being the only girl with 2 older and 3 younger brothers, Edna learned early in life how to hold her own and established herself as a determined self-reliant lady, a characteristic that propelled her success in many ventures throughout her long life.

Following her mission to Eastern Canada, Edna returned to Leavitt and married Leon Alder Cahoon, the “man of her dreams,” in the Cardston temple on July 23rd 1941. They were together for 61 years until Leon’s death in 2002.

Whether raising turkeys, selling encyclopedias, running a weight loss program, or working as a temple ordinance worker or a missionary, Edna worked tirelessly and with determination in all that she undertook. She and Leon served five full-time missions together for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints: Indianapolis, Winnipeg, Singapore, SLC Family History and New Zealand. They were loved by all they served around the world.

The other “loves of her life” were her children who all survive her: David (Jill) Cahoon, Tressa (Jim-deceased) Ridges, Joy (Phil) McMullin, Paul (Tanya) Cahoon, Carol (Rawl) Crosby, Brenda (Barry) Jessee. She is also survived by 38 grand children, 129 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

Generosity, compassion and service were the hallmarks of her long and illustrious life. She responded to all calls and needs selflessly and cheerfully. She will be remembered as a woman of great faith and service, who whole-heartedly loved her Savior, her family and her fellowman.

Those wishing to celebrate the passion of Edna’s life may do so with a contribution to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints missionary fund.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel, Cardston, AB on Tuesday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m.

Friends may meet the family at the Church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service. Interment in the Leavitt Cemetery.
