November 21, 1932 – July 26, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy Thomas Blenkinsop on Tuesday, July 26th at St. Michael’s Health Centre Palliative Care.

Roy was born on November 21st, 1932 in Ormiston, SK. When Roy was a teenager, his family moved to Moose Jaw, where he met his wife Doris. They were married in 1952, and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on July 12, 2016.

Roy owned and operated A&W’s in Moose Jaw, Thunder Bay, and Lethbridge. His passion in life, however, was being a pilot—Roy loved to fly. Later on he also became an auctioneer. Roy was a man of many interests and talents, and we will miss him dearly.

Roy is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his son Keith (Carol); daughters Rhonda (Orene) and Denise (Guy); grandson Brian (Nicole); granddaughter Trista (Matt); and great-grandchildren Kaleb and Preston. He is also survived by his brothers Donald and Robert.

We would like to thank the staff at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital and St. Michael’s Palliative Care for their excellent care for Roy and his family. At Roy’s request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Diabetes Society.

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved husband, VICTOR BZDELL, of Lethbridge, at the St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the age of 87 years.

He is the loving father of Sharmaine (Perry Mirkovich), loving grandpa to Kayla (Bruce Carbert) and Kelsey Mirkovich. He had a great love for his daughter and two granddaughters.

Victor was predeceased by his father, mother, three sisters and one brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

Victor was a successful businessman, starting his own business 20 years ago, Bzdell’s Contracting Ltd. He was never happier than when he was working. He also worked for Tollestrup Sand and Gravel for 40 years.

Victor and Eleanor went for 32 years to Mesa, Arizona for the winter months, where they made many new friends. Victor loved to golf in the spring and summer months and was an avid pool player, where he won many pool tournaments in Mesa.

A Celebration of Victor’s Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 1:00 P.M.

On Monday evening, July 25, 2016, at the age of 94, RUTH JULIA FROMM (nee Minor) passed away peacefully at her home in Raymond, Alberta. Ruth was born in Magrath, Alberta, on April 27, 1922, the youngest and sixth child of Louis and Lillian Minor. She is the beloved wife of Moses Fromm who preceded her in passing at this same time of year in 1994. Ruth was also predeceased by her daughter, Danna (Sanderson, Gary Higa), and her grandsons Brady Fromm and Justin Jensen.

Ruth is survived by her children: Dennis (Kay); Dixie (Donald Sudo), Vinnie (Christian Jensen), Mona (Gordon Powelson), Norma (Thomas Allen), Morris, Peggy (Kirk Sorley), Ginger (Morris Aneca), Lloyd, Ronald (Barbara) and Kenneth (Corinne); 67 Grandchildren; 160 Great-grandchildren, and 18 Great-Great- Grandchildren, with more on the way! Ruth’s list of survivors also includes our “adopted sister” Beverly Salberg Jensen.

Ruth and Moses were the owners of Fromm’s Jewelry, on Main Street in Raymond, which they operated with Moses’ parents. They lived happily above the jewelry store with their 12 children for all of their married life. Their home was filled with not only their children and grandchildren, but also many happy friends who contributed to the friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Ruth lived nearly her entire adult life above the jewelry store and was determined to die there, which she was able to accomplish.

Ruth was a practiced and accomplished cook and her meals attracted and satisfied many visitors. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which gave her many opportunities to serve and love others, including her friends at the Marigold Manor.

Friends may meet the family on Friday, July 29, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Relief Society room of the Taylor Street building, or prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, TAYLOR STREET CHAPEL, 221 North 400 West, Raymond.

Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond.

MARGARET RUTH HOLTMAN (Kjeldgaard), passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24th, 2016 at the age of 101 years. Throughout her many years she experienced the true circle of life – the joys of watching her family grow and the sad loss of loved ones.

Margaret was the youngest of six children born to Anna & Peter Kjeldgaard. Peter Kjeldgaard emigrated from Denmark to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1881 and Anna Jorgenson moved to Luverne, North Dakota from Denmark in 1887. After their marriage, and the birth of Ludwig, Thomas, and Harvey, the family moved in 1909 to Bow Island where Esther, Gladys, and Margaret were born. In 1915 the family moved to Valley City, North Dakota and ranched until 1925 before returning to Bow Island. Margaret was the last surviving child of Anna and Peter Kjeldgaard.

It was in Bow Island that Margaret completed her schooling and married her high school sweetheart, Roland James Martin in 1937. Margaret and Roland farmed at the south edge of town and appreciated life with their four children: Lorraine, Muriel, Richard, & Dalyce.

Margaret was predeceased by Roland in 1965. She later sold the Bow Island farm and moved to Lethbridge with her daughter Dalyce. After 6 years of working various jobs, she met and married Bill Holtman and they enjoyed travelling together until his passing in1980. Margaret was also predeceased by her daughter Lorraine Hamel, and three grandchildren, Leanne Hamel, Trevor Martin, and Robert James Martin. She is survived by daughter Muriel (Norm) Williams of Foremost; son Richard (Moyra) Martin of Calgary, and daughter Dalyce (Jim) Thacker of Lethbridge.

She will be sadly missed by her three children, seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to her, and she meant the world to all of us.

Sincere gratitude goes to her family physician, Dr. Greidanus, and many of the staff at Fairmont Extendicare for the loving attention given to her especially in her final days.

A Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M with Deacon Michael Pollard officiating.

Margaret will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat beside her husband Roland Martin.

ROSE “MOOGIE” JURCAK passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the age of 60 years. Moogie was a fighter. She survived abuse as a child and as a wife, struggled through chronic illnesses of both mind and body and still lived life to the fullest. She laughed, she sang loudly, and always looked forward, never back. She loved adventure, reading romance novels, and being with friends, especially visiting with her little buddy Gabe. She loved road trips, traveling, camping and was passionate about her dog Jupie. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren and her sister Marilynn. Rose made mistakes in life but never let them stop her from loving life and being happy. She brought that happiness and joy to those around her. Sadly, Rose did not leave this world quietly but kicking and screaming. She caused a ruckus in death as she did in life. We will miss her for her laughter, love and the color she brought to this world. In keeping with Rose’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

SETSUKO JEAN KUNIMOTO, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Wednesday, July 27, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Namiko Kunimoto, son-in-law Max Woodworth and grandson Kazuo Kunimoto- Woodworth, as well as her brother David Kunimoto and family. A Private Family Service will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

James (Jim) Alvin Russell was born March 16, 1941 in Truro, NS and died July, 26, 2016 in High River. AB. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He joins his sweetheart Julie (predeceased October 31, 1999). Grandpa loved his family, church and community. His hardworking, diligent and kind spirit leaves this world a better place. He was so proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments, always a leader of the Russell Cheering Squad. Serving in the Scouting organization was a passion. Well known as camp cook and always volunteering for that job.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren; Cathy & Brian Anderson, Susan Russell (Cole), John & Helen Russell (Elaina, Kyara, Payton) Russell, Fred & Michelle (Primeau) Russell (Jordan & Brandon, Kalysta & Braden). He is also survived by his sisters, Myrtle (Fraser), Bertha (Malcom), Shirley (Robert), Dorothy (Paul), Merle (Robert), Emma and brothers Lewis (Shannon), Daniel (Patsy), and Elwood (June) – all from Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his sister Ester.
