Emile Fauville

1929 – 2016

Mr. Emile Fauville of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mary Fauville, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the age of 87 years, surrounded by his family.

Emile is survived by his daughter Debbie (Craig) Robertson; his son John (Vicki) Fauville; his grandchildren Melanie, Matthew, Jacklyn, and Lyndsay; great-grandchildren, Liam, with whom he shared a special bond; Jake, Cate and Chloe.

Emile was born and raised in Coleman, Alberta on September 4, 1929. After marrying the love of his life, Mary, he moved to Lethbridge in 1962 to further his career as an Engineer for the Chinook Regional Hospital (formerly the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital).

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Hear a whistle, he’s getting close.

Ask for chocolates, he had the most.

House is empty… he’s in the yard.

Mending, tending, gardening hard.

Give him a rod, he’d fish all day.

Visit the slots, though they’d

never pay.

A simple man, both wise and strong,

He’d keep you laughing, all day long.

But years had passed,

he started to slow,

Heaven has him now,it was time to go.

– Granddaughter Melanie J Clarke

MADGE

1926 – 2016

With regret, we announce the passing of our father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, W. PAUL MADGE of Milk River, Alberta on September 21, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Paul was born June 17, 1926 to Edna Coffin Madge and W. Martin Madge. The fourth of five children, Paul was centered in his home town and is well remembered as “Paul Madge from Milk River.” He lived a full life, taking over Madge Equipment from his father as a young man, becoming a pilot at age 26, town Mayor the following year and a dedicated businessman with a passion for his local area. Paul was most excited when interacting with the world around him. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, a dedicated collector, a social butterfly and insistent dancer, lover of the outdoors and committed friend.

In 1956, Paul married Nola Matkin of Magrath and they welcomed three children in to the family fold, Martin 1958, Bruce 1960 and JoEllen 1961. As a young family, they became Charter members of the Alberta chapter of Flying Farmers. This brought many adventures through the years, as well as life-long friendships all around North America which lasted a lifetime.

Selling his business in 1975, Paul redirected his energy into real estate and enjoyed managing that through the rest of his life. After retirement, he served a decade on the ADC Board for the Alberta Government. In his down time, Paul loved spending time at the family cabin in Waterton, hiking and berry picking with his grandchildren and other family, rowing across a lake or visiting with his sister across town. This was reminiscent of his early days spent at the original Madge cabin with all manner of family and friends coming and going. He always loved a good crowd!

Paul was predeceased by his parents; William Martin Madge and Edna Coffin Madge, siblings; Helen (Henry) Salisbury, Frank (Verna) Madge, Beth (Bob) Hummel, Grace (George) Snow, nephew Mark Hummel, great-nephew Michael Brown and other beloved family and friends.

Paul is survived by his children Martin (Michelle) Madge, Bruce Madge, JoEllen (Geoffrey) Cushing and grandchildren Victoria, Kennedy and Catherine Madge, Derek, Kirk (Molly), Corie Jo and Janna Lee Cushing. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews whom he held very close and dear to his heart.

The family wishes to invite anyone who would like to join them at the graveside service being held at the MILK RIVER CEMETERY on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M.., followed by a noon meal at the Milk River Civic Centre, where we can all share stories and memories of the Paul Madge we remember.

SUTHERLAND

ROBERT “BOB” SUTHERLAND of Lethbridge, Alberta died October 5, 2016 at the age of 94. He lived with several serious health conditions over the last year which eventually overtook him. Bob was married to Doris (Waugh) for 68 years and their love and friendship was always the centrepiece of their lives. Later Bob was sole caregiver for Doris as she declined into Alzheimer’s disease, treating her with great kindness and consideration until her death. Bob was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His parents Henry Sutherland and Jean Davidson were immigrants from the Northern Islands and Highlands of Scotland. The family had a tailor shop in Winnipeg until the Great Depression when it closed and the family, including younger brother Donald, headed to Toronto, Ontario. They were stopped in North Bay and lived in a tent through one winter, with Henry tailoring until they had the resources to finish their trip. The family ran a successful tailor shop for many years in Toronto.

Bob enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at the beginning of WWII. He was stationed in Shelbourne, Nova Scotia, where he lived with his new bride Doris, serving as a Chief Petty Officer, using his technical skills to repair electrical systems on ships. After the war, they returned to Toronto where their only child Robert James was born. Bob was an avid golfer and a very competitive bowler. They had many, very long-lasting friendships and especially enjoyed trips to Florida with family and friends.

Over his entire life Bob was the kind of person that many turned to for help. He was always there, from the time that he stopped his formal education to go to work to enable his brother to attend university, to managing a little credit union branch to help co-workers with small loans, to looking after members of the family when they experienced crises. His engagement with others was always marked by intelligence, diligence and good humour. He was fiercely independent, but even to the end he always tried to make people smile or laugh.

Bob always expressed how lucky he felt to have lived a full and good life. He was admired and loved by his son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Janice, his grandchildren Nicholas James (Amanda Mondragon), Alexina Louise (Denis Landry), Katrina Jean (Greg Burland), Erika Skye (Dan Gibbons) and Dylan Robert, his great-grandchildren Daniel and Claire, as well as Margaret Misurka and many other nieces and nephews.

A family service will be held at a later date.
