SPOHN, Marie – Cécile Jeanne

December 23, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta

On December 23rd, Marie-Cécile Spohn (née Wilfort) passed away peacefully at the age of 96.

Marie-Cécile loved life. Growing up on a farm, her involvement with nature was a big part of her life – horses and cattle, gardening and berry picking, making hay, and harvesting. Her sense of adventure was ever present. During World War II she completed her studies to become a teacher, later obtaining her Bachelor of Education degree. She excelled in teaching grade one and later in life, shared her expertise in French immersion preschool and kindergarten. A woman of courage, commitment, and service, she did not hesitate to accept leadership positions in organizations such as the CWL, or write letters to the government stating her position on human rights issues. A woman of strong faith, adventure, love, and determination, she has left an important legacy to her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marie-Cécile is survived by her loving children Simone Robinson (Len), Randall Spohn (Renee), Charlotte Gutrath (Rick), Michelle Danvers (Alex), Sonia Quon (Phil) and Renée Henderson (Bill); 15 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren, as well as her two sisters, Susan Ferguson and Sister Jeanne Wilfort c.s.c.
