Bud Shortt

1930 – 2017

Mr. Stewart “Bud” Shortt of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Betty Shortt passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the age of 86 years.

Bud was born to Stu and Lillian Shortt on June 23, 1930 in Calgary, AB. He grew up in Lethbridge, attending school until graduation. Bud started working with the PFRA in 1951 and met his wife while stationed in Cardston, AB. Bud and Betty married on December 27, 1952. He loved his career and worked in various parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan. While in Saskatchewan they chose their 3 children and settled into Rosetown, Saskatchewan to raise them. After retiring from the PFRA, Bud and Betty made their home in the Crowsnest Pass for 23 years, moving to Lethbridge in 2009. Bud loved fishing, curling, golf – but most of all his family.

Besides his loving wife Betty (Leavitt), Bud is survived by his daughter Barbara Shortt-Hauta (Kim) of Lethbridge, AB; and his son Michael Shortt of Medicine Hat, AB; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Rob Hauta (Khole-Ann), Robbie Hauta, Sarah Hatton (Brett), T.J and Rory – Katie Tencer (Greg), Max – Dylan Shortt, Christy Pizzulo (Michele), Sammi & Tao; sister Ann Christian of Burley, ID; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Bud was sadly predeceased by his son Joel Shortt (survived by wife Mary) in 2004; his granddaughter Carla Larson of Calgary in 2006; his brother Frank (survived by wife Lorraine) of Monarch, AB in 2016; and sister June MacPherson (survived by husband Pat) of Morrinville, AB in 2016.

A Celebration of Bud’s life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 6, 2017 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB with Dr. Linda Ormson, officiating. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects 1 hour prior to the service.

Interment will take place in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Elton Sorgard, beloved husband of the late Mary Sorgard, passed away in Taber on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

YUILL

DONALD BARRY YUILL, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 2nd, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 60 years. Don is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirlee, sons Mitchell (Megan), of Cardston; Brendan (Kimberly) of Jaffray, BC; daughter Amanda Leavitt (Tanner) of Cardston; and 13 beautiful grandchildren who he told everyone were the cutest in the world. He is also survived by his mother, Colleen Yuill, sisters Shirley Francis (Greg) and Patricia Meheden (Al) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Barry, mother and father in law Harold and Eleanor Watson and brother in law, Al Meheden.

Don was a people person, loved to visit with everyone and had many friends who will miss his visits. He loved anything outdoors, with hunting, fishing, and camping his favorites. As a young man he excelled in basketball, football, slowpitch and set many records in track and field. He continued to participate in sports throughout his life, coaching and refereeing for the Southern Alberta Basketball Officials Association.

Don was a man of many talents, he had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to share his talents on stage participating in many Cardston musical theatre productions. He had a strong testimony of his Savior and served faithfully in many church callings.

Friends may meet the family from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Legacy Funeral Home in Cardston or at the church from 9:45 am to 10:45 am prior to the Service.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cardston Alberta West Stake Centre, 846 1 Ave West, Cardston, AB. , on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.

Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Mountain View, Alberta.
