1921 – LORNA EARL – 2017

Lorna Earl of Medicine Hat passed away on Tuesday, July 11th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Lorna leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Hal (Susan) Lust of Strathmore and Barry (Chris) Lust of Sylvan Lake; eight grandchildren, Tracey Basaraba, Debbie Basaraba, Denise Basaraba, Craig Lust, Roberta Lust, Jolene Lust, Deanna (Clarence) Kooistra and Bonnie Gilmore; as well as numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lorna was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Martha Seitz; one daughter Ruby Basaraba; one grandson, Brett Lust; one granddaughter, Lisa Basaraba; and four sisters, Helen Aman, Freida Deering, Ida Chambers and Eva Seitz. Lorna was born on December 14th, 1921 in Elkwater, Alberta. She worked for McDonald’s Consolidated in Lethbridge for many years. She was a former member of the Pemmican Club and the Sweet Adeline’s in Lethbridge and the singing group, Mad Hatters, in Medicine Hat. Lorna took great pride in her grandkids and loved spending time with family. Gardening was one of her passions over the years. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Thursday, July 27th, 2017 from 12 noon until 12:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Thursday, July 27th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Janet passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on Monday July 17, 2017 at the age of 84. She was followed shortly after by the light of her life Bob, who passed away at Michener Extended Care Thursday July 20, 2017 at the age of 91. DYKSTRA

It is with great sadness but, quiet relief, that we announce the passing into glory of MATHYSJE “MATTIE” DYKSTRA (nee Pater), beloved wife of Glenn, on July 20th 2017 in her home at Legacy Lodge at the age of 88 years.

Along with her husband, she is lovingly remembered by her children: Alice (Alvin*), Derrick (Connie), Betty (Wade), Bernice (Rick), 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as her siblings, Annie (Bill) and Ralph (Theresa*); and her siblings-in-law, Wyke (Fred*), Peter (Nancy) and Shirley (John).

Mattie was predeceased by her daughter Dena* and grandson Peter*; siblings, Catrinus*, Grace* (George) and Walter* (Joyce*); and siblings-in-law, Fenny* (Burtus*) and Tina*.

Mattie was born in Oosterzee Friesland, Netherlands on January 6th, 1929. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 22 and married Glenn on August 21, 1957.

Mattie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, singing and going for walks. She was a woman of great faith and her life was a real testimony of her love for Jesus. Mattie battled Alzheimer’s for many years but, continued to sing which caused those around her to sing.

Were so thankful for all the love and care shown to her by the staff of Legacy Lodge especially those of the South Cottage.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the TRINITY REFORMED CHURCH, 1100-40th Ave. North, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor John van Eyk officiating.

A Private Family Burial was held prior to the service.

PERRON

EDNA MARIE PERRON, beloved wife of the late Arcadius Wilfrid Perron of St. Norbert, MB, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre, on Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 at the age of 98 years.

Edna is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Karen McDonald and children Leah and Luc of Beausejour, MB; son Richard (Jonina Ewart) Perron and children Freya, Nia and Sophia of Winnipeg, MB; daughter Michelle (Donald Lussier) Perron and children Marc and Laura of Lethbridge, AB; son Gilbert (Tracey Evers) Perron and children Rachelle, Anna and David of Lethbridge, AB; and daughter Lise-Marie (Andrew) Fox and children Thomas, Danielle and Ben of Lethbridge, AB.

Besides her loving husband, Edna was predeceased by her son Bernard Perron and daughter Marie Perron.

Edna was raised in Meyronne, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Arthur and Leah Thuot (née Bouché). She was part of a large family that included brothers George, Paul and Raymond and sisters Jeanne, Lillian and Laura. She studied in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan where she met her husband Arcadius Wilfrid Perron.

Edna trained and practiced as a teacher and nurse before moving to Winnipeg to raise her family. The family divided their time between Winnipeg and their cottage on Lake Manitoba. During the last quarter of her long life, she lived in Lethbridge to be close to the majority of her family.

Edna was a kind, funny and caring individual who always had time for others. She was a strong and independent thinker who encouraged individualism and personal responsibility in others. Edna loved reading, playing bridge and spending time with her family, especially doting on her grandchildren. Her faith was an integral part of her life and the person she was. Edna lived a long and happy life. Throughout her years, Edna continued to be friendly, compassionate and loving and will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Edith Cavell Care Centre for their compassionate assistance in Edna’s time of need. Special thanks to Dr. Bernadette Pahulje for the support, care and kindness she showed Edna over the years.

A Celebration of Edna’s Life will be held at the ST. NORBERT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 80 Rue St. Pierre Street, Winnipeg, MB, on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with a reception to follow in the Sacristy of the church at 12:00 P.M.

STANLEY, Dorothy Marie

Dorothy Marie Stanley, 70, of Edmonton Alberta, died on July 7, 2017 in Calgary Alberta following an aggressive battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Dorothy was born in Wenatchee, Washington, to Bruce and Jessie Stanley. She graduated from Wenatchee High School and later Central Washington University with Bachelor of Education. Following graduation, she moved to Canada where she worked as a teacher and teacher-librarian, inspiring youth for 21 years at Rocky Mountain House West Central High School. She joined the Alberta Teachers Association Staff in 1992 until retirement in 2009. During this time, she continued teaching and inspiring through professional development workshops and teacher welfare. Dorothy was particularly grateful for the opportunity to encourage undergraduate teachers from the University of Alberta. She was actively involved with Edmonton Mayfield Rotary club where she received a Paul Harris Fellowship. Dorothy loved her family and close friends with abundance and generosity. She will be profoundly missed by her family as they hold her memory amid deep grief and immeasurable affection. Tom and Eva wish to thank all family members and close friends who visited, provided care, loved and encouraged Dorothy through her Alzheimer’s Disease. Dorothy is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Eva; nephews, Brent and his daughter Morgan; Mitchell and his children, Grayden and Sierra; Michael and his children, Hailey and Berlynn; her niece Elizabeth (Dom) and their children Ben and Jackson; and her very best friend Darlene (Jim) Spargo. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Jessie; and her brother Robert. Honorary Pallbearers are close friends and colleagues: Julius Buski, Brenda Haubrich, Catherine Moir, Noreen O’Haire, Jim Spargo, and all her great-nieces and great-nephews.
