BIKMAN

William (Bill) Bikman, loving husband of Erma Rasmussen Bikman, died peacefully in his sleep on September 7, 2017. He was 96 years old. Born in Lethbridge March 2, 1921, he spent his entire life here. After retiring in 1977, he and Erma enjoyed wintering in Palm Springs where he learned to golf and was “Mr. Fixit” to all his elderly neighbors there, helping them with any of their construction or auto repair needs Bill worked with his brother, Abe, at Speedy Delivery, the company Abe started in 1935. This business later became Speedy Storage & Cartage Ltd and then, moving into the oilfields, Speedy Heavy Hauling Ltd. In 1983 Bill received the Founder Award from the American Truck Historical Society for his lifetime achievements & service in the trucking industry. During WW II he was an airframe mechanic, stationed in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Bill was known and admired for his integrity, ingenuity and work ethic. “Make your word your bond” he advised his 3 children, a slogan he practiced all his life. He was always a strong, generous supporter of Jewish causes and the establishment of the State of Israel, even after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also gave freely of his time and resources in service to others. A long-time Rotarian, he was the first to volunteer on service projects. In Church he likewise would quickly raise his hand when a group was being organized to help someone move, repair a storm damaged house, or render other charitable service. Bill was predeceased by his beloved daughter Debra Edna Bird, daughter-in-law, Suzy, as well as his parents and all of his siblings. Left to mourn his passing and celebrate a life well lived are his wife, Erma, their sons, Gary and Shane; Gary’s wife, Sheila; his son-in-law, Craig Bird; 31 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful, supportive and caring staff at St. Therese Villa. You made Bill feel welcomed, respected and valued. We never worried because we knew how much you cared. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST LATTER-DAY SAINTS – Stirling, AB. Friends may meet with family prior to the service from 10:00 – 10:45am. Bishop Jim Seely officiating. Interment to follow in the Bikman family section at Stirling Cemetery.

Bonnie Duncan

1955 -2017

May the air carry her spirit gently. May the fire release her soul. May the water cleanse her. Washing her clean of pain and sorrow. May the earth receive her. May the wheel turn and bring her to rebirth.

Ms. Bonnie Duncan of Lethbridge passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the age of 62 years.

She is survived by her children, Dan (Jessica) Duncan, Courtney McCuaig and Tiffany (Greg) Wasper; grandchildren, Toni, Sydney, Ethan, Chloe, Jordan and Zachary; siblings, Mark (Sue) Duncan, Kim (Lorie) Duncan, Tracy (Rick) Spillman, Lake (Anita) Duncan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bonnie, born on May 3, 1955 to Bob and Joyce Duncan, spent a lifetime caring and supporting others. Her greatest strength was her compassion for others. A capacity for understanding and connecting to people and their unique challenges, Bonnie made a difference in the lives of many, while employed at Nanaimo Family Life, Safe Haven and Training Inc. Bonnie loved her children deeply and unconditionally. She loved them right where they were at every stage of their lives. Her hope for them was to search out the positive, believe in themselves, and to express their love. Bonnie leaves Dan, Courtney, and Tiffany knowing that she cherished them more than all else. In lieu of flowers, Bonnie would wish that you treat each other gently, with love and patience, tolerance and care. Per Bonnie’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Cremation entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.

LAMBERT

Teresa Lambert, beloved wife of Steve Lambert of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the age of 81 years. She was born in Zermatt, Switzerland on March 23, 1936. She was also the loving mother of Robert of Lethbridge, Peter (Miriam) of Victoria, and David (deceased). Proud grandmother to two grandchildren, David & Emily. Teresa was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She could always be relied on to help everyone and anyone. She loved gardening. She always enjoyed trips and always looked upon Steve’s new military transfers as a new opportunity to explore this country. She worked at Edith Cavell Care Centre for 18 years. PAYNE

RHONDA ISABEL PAYNE, of Lethbridge, passed away on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017, at the age of 55 years after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

She is survived by sons, Wes (Amy) Payne of Fort Saskatchewan, Chris Payne of Fort Saskatchewan, daughter, Amanda (Chris) Payne of Hinton, four grandchildren, Brandon Parker, Brydon Payne, Alyanna Payne and Bentley Payne, her mother, Isabella Kana of Coaldale, sister, Rita (Keith) Longacre of Millet, brother, Greg (Brenda) Kana of Calgary, as well as nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by grandparents, Iver and Clara Kana, Anton and Frances Herbst, her dad, Norman Kana, uncle Gerald Herbst, uncle John Vesely and aunt Edna Webber.

Rhonda grew up in southern Alberta. From a young age she loved animals and going for a ride on a horse. She enjoyed gardening and at a later age she took art courses where she found a love of painting and drawing. She also enjoyed crocheting.

SLOVAK

RONNIE JAMES SLOVAK, of Taber, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the age of 56 years.

He is survived by his father Joe Slovak of Wrentham, brother Danny (Cheryl) Slovak of Wrentham, nephews Christopher Slovak of Lethbridge and Declan Slovak of Wrentham, niece Chantel Slovak (Jesse) and their family of Lethbridge, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, a foster son and his best friend Scott McLean of Taber.

He was predeceased by his mother Mary Slovak, grandparents George and Agnes Slovak and Sam and Danica Radisic.

Ronnie was born on June 20, 1961 in Calgary and was raised on the family farm in Wrentham. He began his schooling in Wrentham before moving on to High School at St. Mary’s in Taber. Ronnie’s passion was educating and mentoring young people on drug and alcohol addiction at many schools in southern Alberta. He also worked at the South Country Treatment Centre in Lethbridge for numerous years. Later, he purchased the small convenience store in Wrentham that was owned by the Grover family, which became Ron’s General Store and Post Office in the early 90s. Ronnie loved to socialize with his customers and friends over a cup of coffee. He was a fun loving guy who always had a joke and a good story to share. Ronnie’s love of antique cars and his dogs was well known to everyone. He will be dearly missed by his family, many friends and especially his nephew Chris.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. with Alice Takacs officiating.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH – 2405 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback, Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
