Jim is survived by his beloved wife Denise Hopkins; three children Stephen (Melissa) Hopkins of Calgary and their children Samuel and Vanessa; Charly (Stacey) Hopkins of Lethbridge and their children Allison and William; and Charlene Hopkins of Enchant. He is also survived by his brothers Greg (Diane) Hopkins, Charly Hopkins (Patti Rojek) and Tom (Bertha) Hopkins. Jim was also an uncle to numerous nephews and a dear friend to many.
He was predeceased by his parents Charly and Margret Hopkins and sister Charlotte Hopkins, all of Cranbrook, British Columbia.
Jim was born and raised in Cranbrook, British Columbia, where he lived on the wrong side of the tracks. Growing up he had a close-knit group of friends that called themselves the “Skid Road Boys”. He found joy in his career of being a heavy equipment operator, in which he worked for BC Roads in Cranbrook, the open pit coal mine in Sparwood, and finally for the MD of Taber. He loved off-roading, spending time with family and friends, listening to music and watching spaghetti westerns while having a glass of Diet Coke. Jim was a strong-willed man who had a penchant for practical jokes and food fights. He would read the newspaper daily and check the obituaries proclaiming “well, I’m not in there today”. Unfortunately, Jim, today is your day.
If friends so desire, the family asks that you make a donation in Jim’s memory directly to the Bladder Cancer Canada, 1000 – 4936 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario M2N 6S3 (http://www.bladdercancercanada.org).
