Margit Burns

1930 – 2018

Mrs. Margit Burns, beloved wife of the late Mr. John Burns and devoted & loving mother of Roger and Dianne, passed away peacefully in Pincher Creek on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

Margit was born June 27, 1930 at the Lethbridge Galt Hospital, to Ingbert and Olivia Mikalson of the Enchant district as the youngest daughter of 9 children.

As a young woman, Mom and her sister Ivy ventured off the farm to begin their adult lives working and living in Calgary. In 1962, she married the love of her life John, and built their dream home south of Pincher Creek on the Burns home quarter where they raised Roger and

Dianne.

Margit shared John’s love of the land and ranching in the mountains. They both loved to travel and spend time with their children and especially their grandchildren. In 2000, John and Margit bought their second dream home in Lethbridge and enjoyed many new activities that weren’t available in the small town of Pincher Creek, such as square dancing. They thoroughly enjoyed travelling together over the years, including a New England Cruise and numerous U.S. destinations.

Mom became an active member of the Lethbridge Senior Centre and the Red Hat Society in which she met many new and wonderful people. In 2013, she suffered a debilitating stroke. She always said she was a tough Norwegian and truly persevered until her passing with the comfort and assistance from many wonderful staff at Vista Village.

Margit was predeceased by her loving husband John in 2010; her parents; and brothers & sisters Idar, Bjarne, Myrtle, Birger, Emil, Alf, Ivy and Michael.

She is survived by her children Roger (Carol) and Dianne (Dale Potter); grandchildren Ryan and sons Gavin, Nathaniel and Roman, Jason and Nicole, Melissa and Michael and children Cole, Owen and Leah, Amanda and Travis; sister in-law Helen Morehouse; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, April 13, 2018 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects one hour prior to the service from 1:00pm to 1:45pm.

Barbara Carpenter

1934 – 2018

Mrs. Barbara Marlyn Carpenter of Mountain View, beloved wife of Mr. Darrel Carpenter, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 84 years. She suffered a stroke on Monday morning, April 2, 2018 and went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

Barbara was raised on a cattle ranch near Wolf Point, Montana. She earned a nursing degree in her early 20s and married Darrel at 22. They lived in France, Missouri, North Dakota, California, British Columbia and Northern Alberta before settling in Mountain View.

Barb cherished the life-long friends she made in each place. She loved music, flowers, baking, reading and Waterton Park. She was so excited about the miraculous moves of God around the world, and constantly prayed for her family and friends.

Besides her loving husband, Darrel, Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Jeanne Kae and Tamara Lynn; her son Darrel Lane; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister Jeanne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents Helen (nee Steffensen) and Bob Thomas; her sister Gayle; and daughter Dawn Annette.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, at or near Waterton Park.

HELEN CHARLESWORTH, beloved wife of the late Albert Charlesworth, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the age of 90 years.

Bob Dick
1945 – 2018
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018 Robert William Dick, passed away peacefully at Clearview Lodge in Taber at the age of 73 years.
A private burial service will be held at the Vauxhall Cemetery prior to the funeral service.

Left to mourn his passing are his children Julie (Sheldon) Harrish of Toronto and Jeff Dick of Surrey British Columbia;  sisters-in-law Shirley (John) Arbuthnott and Barbra Dick; brother-in-law Bob Frederick; nieces Melissa (Ken) Taylor, Christine Frederick, Laura Frederick-Knowlton (Jeff Knowlton) and Cheryl (Scott) Dakiniewich; nephews David (Lara) Dick, Brian (Nicole) Dick and Jaime (Erin) Frederick.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Margery; son Anthony “Tony”; parents Bill and Helen Dick; siblings Alan Dick and Margret Peters; in-laws Bruce and Helen Rowbotham; sister-in-law Joan Frederick and brother-in-law Gordon Peters.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia on January 30, 1945, Bob moved with his family to Calgary in 1951 and resided in the Winston Heights area.  The middle of three children born to Bill and Helen Dick, Bob was the jokester of the family and loved to share a corny joke or pull a prank on his loved ones. Bob loved camping and the outdoors and as a youth was an active member of the scouts. In this later years, he enjoyed hunting fowl and game in southern Alberta. After graduating from high school, he continued his education at the University of Calgary and went on to become a teacher. Bob got his first teaching job at WR Meyers in Taber in 1965 and taught there for six years. In 1971 he moved to Vauxhall to become the band director at Vauxhall High School. Bob was very passionate about music and loved the band program in Vauxhall. His students were his pride and joy and he often shared stories of band trips and concerts long after his retirement. The Vauxhall High School Viking Band played internationally at music festivals, they proudly marched in both the Calgary Stampede Parade and the Grey Cup Parade as well as at numerous local concerts and events throughout Bob’s career. He was always very proud of his students and all of their accomplishments. Bob retired from teaching in 2009 after forty three years with the Horizon School Division.
Bob married the love of his life, Margery Rowbotham in 1968 and started a family in Vauxhall in 1972. Bob and Marge dedicated their lives to their children, and spent countless hours coaching baseball, driving them across the countryside to play hockey and weekly trips to Taber for music lessons. He loved his small town life in Vauxhall and was very proud of the town and it’s people.

Catherine North Peigan (nee Crow Eagle) was born on March 17, 1934 at Brocket, AB and departed to the heavenly kingdom peacefully on April 1, 2018 at the Chinook Regional Hospital and was surrounded by her immediate family at the age of 84 years.

THOMPSON

EVELYN THOMPSON, beloved wife of James Thompson, of Lethbridge, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the age of 81 years.

Besides her loving husband Jim of 59 years, Evelyn is survived by her children Allan, Laurie (Dale Beck), Les (Janet) and Randy; her four grandchildren Crystal (Trevor), Tara (Andrew), Travis and Jennifer; her eight great-grandchildren Kalia, Gaetana and Anton (Crystal and Trevor), Brynn, Brooke and Charlotte (Tara and Andrew), and Kahleah and Declan (Jennifer), as well as four brothers, four sisters, many brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous extended family members.

She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Phyllis, her sister Dorothy, her brother William, Jim’s parents Matthew and Marion, her son-in-law Dale, as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Evelyn was born Evelyn Gertrude Grams on July 13, 1936 to Edward and Phyllis Grams in Lang, SK. She was their third child and the first daughter. She spent her childhood years living on the farm, helping to tend to the house, the garden and her younger siblings. In the mid-1950s, she moved off the farm to Regina and started working, where she met her beloved husband Jim in 1958. One year later, Evelyn and Jim were married and they enjoyed many years together building a life. Evelyn always cherished spending time with family, loved travelling to new and familiar places on bus tours, and strongly valued her relationship with the Lord. Towards the end, Evelyn was diagnosed with dementia, and though she was robbed of her physicality she retained her sense of humour, fashion and love of her family.

Per Evelyn’s wishes, a Memorial Service will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Richard Williams officiating.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Evelyn, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Evelyn will be deeply missed by Jim and their family, and by all else who knew her.

KOCH

AGNES “AGGIE’ KOCH (nee Beekhof) beloved wife of VICTOR Koch of Lethbridge, passed away with her husband and son by her side at the St. Therese Villa, on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the age of 76 years.

She is the loving mother of Calvin (Darlene) Koch of Lethbridge; Oma to Hailey (Chais) Thompson of Edmonton and Jamie (Jerrett) Bakaric of Lethbridge and four great granddaughters.

She is also survived by brothers Bert and Bill (Hennie), sisters Nel (Lep), Rose (Stan), Henny (Doug), sister in law Anneke (Gary), Lies (Case) and Gerrie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Willem & Tuiny, infant son Daniel, her niece Shelly and a sister in law Carla.

Aggie was a loving and extremely generous person, passionate about her grandchildren, family & friends. Always the life of the party! She was happiest traveling on the open road to anywhere. Her favorite things were spending time with family, sing a longs at the piano and finding the perfect outfit! Our family will never be the same.

A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Reformed Church, 1100-40th Avenue North, Lethbridge on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. John Van Eyk officiating.

A Private Family Graveside was held prior to the service at Mountain View Cemetery.

In memory of Aggie, donations may be made to the Rohoboth Christian Ministries.
