SCHULER

On April 12, 2018 at the age of 21, NEIL JOSEPH SCHULER passed away peacefully with his mother at his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital, just two doors down from where he was born.

He leaves to mourn his beloved mother Tammy, stepfather Mike McLaren, sister Nichole and brother Jessie. He will also be remembered by his biological father’s other children that he got to meet as a young adult: sister Layla Chicago (Tyler Warren) and her three sons as well as brother Raphael Chicago and sister Lacretia Chicago of Thunder Bay. He also leave to mourn grandfathers, George Schuler and Don Sponchia, grandmothers, Mary Haug and Gerry McLaren, as well as numerous other relatives who meant the world to him. We take comfort that Joey has gone to be with his father Karl Sponchia, grandfather Richard McLaren and his grandmothers, Rachael Oliver and Jean Schuler.

Joey struggled his entire life with his illness. He just wanted to be normal; be his own person. Through it all, Joey, was a happy-go-lucky person with an infectious laugh. If Joey was your friend, he was a loyal friend, a friend to the end.

Joey attended school at St Paul’s till age 11, at which time he moved to Slave Lake to live with his stepdad Mike, sister Nichole and brother Jessie. He moved back to Lethbridge and attended Victoria Park High School. Joey didn’t complete his schooling but was a very intelligent young man. He was extremely computer smart and able to absorb any subject he showed interest in. Joey spent his childhood playing Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon at Showcase comics on Saturdays.

Joey was the kind of guy you never forgot. He left a mark on all who crossed his path. Joey will always be remembered and loved.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with a gathering afterwards.
