Kevin was predeceased by his parents Harold and Phyllis (nee Savage) Layton.
Kevin surprised everyone with his death, just as he surprised everyone with his life. Born with numerous health challenges, he was not expected to live past a year, yet miraculously survived for fifty three years, thanks to the faith and prayers of many, and physicians willing to perform life-saving surgeries.
Kevin was able to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was at the beginning of that service that he met his future wife. Kevin continued a life of service through his volunteer efforts, including the Lung Association, Bingo Rep for the Kidney Foundation, Co-Captain for the Canadian Cancer Relay for Life and chair for South Region Self Advocacy Network (SRSAN). Kevin cared deeply for fairness and equality and fought for the rights of those he perceived as having no voice.
Kevin’s sense of humor and dogged determination carried him through many a difficult time. Well, Kevin, you are no longer ‘sick and broke’. You are free to think and move about without the limitations of an ailing physical body. We’ll see ya when we see ya.
In friends so desire, memorial tributes in Kevin’s name may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2.
