Robert Ernest McDonald

1950 – 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Ernest McDonald (Bob) announces his passing after a long and brave battle with cancer. Bob grew up in Winnipeg and spent as much time as possible on his grandparent’s farm. His love of farming led to a respected career in the agriculture industry. He was known as trustworthy and hard working- a straight shooter who was never afraid to speak his mind. Bob loved sharing his passion for the land- he could always be counted on for good stories while touring family and friends around Southern Alberta. A simple canola field would often hold interesting facts about the people and history of the area. Bob enjoyed many activities and sports. He was an avid hockey player, skier and enjoyed canoeing down the Oldman River. Golf was probably Bob’s favorite form of stress and stress relief at the same time. In recent years, he enjoyed golfing holidays to Arizona with his son Kyle and his golfing family. He was very proud of winning the Masters Club Championship at the Lethbridge Country Club in 2017. Bob was predeceased by his son Kevin, and his parents, Irene and Gordon. He is survived by his children; Jennifer (Tim) and Kyle (Lisa), granddaughter; Piper, his wife Holly, and her children; Tessa (Dan) and Whitney, and grandchildren; Charlotte and Mason. Bob is lovingly remembered by his brothers; Bill (Avis) and Roy. Also missing Bob is his faithful companion, Casey. To celebrate Bob’s life, we would like to invite those who knew him and loved him to join us in the spring for a round of golf and a chance to share memories. More details will follow closer to the date. The family wishes to thank all the health care professionals at the Jack Ady Cancer Centre and St. Michael’s Health Care Centre for their dedication and care for Bob during the last two years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada, the Jack Ady Cancer Centre or the Junior Golf Program at the Lethbridge Country Club.
