Jody Donald Anderson 1972 – 2019

The family of Jody Anderson is very sad to announce his unexpected passing in Devon, Alberta on January 5th, 2019 at the age of 46. Born in Medicine Hat in 1972 and raised primarily in the Pincher Creek area, Jody lived and worked throughout Southern and Central Alberta, living most recently in Devon while working in Nisku, near Edmonton. Jody is survived by his two beloved children, Colton and Malina; their mother Katrina; parents Don Anderson (Wendy) and Pat Anderson (Ken); the remaining ‘Anderson brothers’ Shawn (Coralee) of Pincher Creek, Clint (Liz) of Lethbridge and Jim (Andrea) of Medicine Hat. He leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his lovable canine companion Lexi. Jody made friends easily and will undoubtedly be mourned by many friends from all walks of life. Jody will be remembered for his kind heartedness, his gentle soul, the twinkle in his eye, his exceptional work ethic and his never-failing willingness to help anyone in need. Jody (reputed to have defeated his teacher in arm wrestling at age 12) was a person of physical strength but he was even stronger in spirit. He was a determined person, willing to meet any challenge head-on and to make the most of any situation. Jody possessed a passion for life, with a particular love of the outdoors, of hunting and of mechanics. Jody was a mechanically gifted person, which served him well in his many years working in the oil patch. We will miss him greatly. A Memorial Mass will be held for Jody at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 958 Christie Avenue in Pincher Creek at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11th, 2019. There will be a reception to follow. Please do not send flowers; for those who wish, a donation in Jody’s honour, to a charity of your choice would be preferred.

BOYD

We are devastated to announce the passing of SHANNON MAUREEN BOYD, on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the age of 65 years. Shannon passed peacefully in bed at home in Lethbridge.

She leaves to mourn her grandchildren, Natasha and Rylee Clark; loving nephew, Matthew Patterson; and sister and best friend, Kate Heptonstall, as well as cousins and a host of friends.

Shannon was born to Robert and Winnie Boyd in Stettler, Alberta on August 9, 1953. She attended Elementary School in Stettler, then transferring to high school in Calgary. Following high school, Shannon attended Cosmetology/Hairdressing school in Calgary, where she excelled. Over several years she successfully opened her own salons in Kelowna, Claresholm and Drumheller.

Shannon was respected and admired by all who came in contact with her. She was always there to lend a helping hand to the “underdog”, no matter when or where. She was a very unselfish, caring woman. Out of love and concern, she postponed her dreams and goals and relocated to Granum to help care for her aging mother and stepfather. She provided a sense of strength and care and remained so until their death, many years later. Shannon always had the ability to find something positive in life, no matter the situation. She was blessed with a great sense of humour. She had a great love for all animals. Many a person knowing this, would come to her with an injured animal or a starving kitten to nurse and care for – or for just a cup of tea and a sympathetic ear to listen to them in their time of need or pain. No matter the troubles that faced her, she always bounced back with a positive and grateful-for-life attitude.

Shannon had a spiritual nature and was a Reiki Master, teaching many classes throughout the years. She had a voracious love for reading and of music. Her singing voice was beautiful and she was approached many times with the invitation or request to “sing in the band”. She was a wonderful aunt and a confidante to her nephew, Matt. Anyone who was lucky enough to come into contact with Shannon for any length of time would quickly realize what a genuine, loving person she was. She was a loving Grandma and permanent caregiver to her grandchildren, Natasha and Rylee Clark. And of course, the best sister in the world that a person could ever ask for and caring “pet mom”.

“In our hearts forever. Look over us and shine on us from Heaven.”

At Shannon’s request, no formal funeral will be held. Cremation entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Last Chance Cat Ranch, P.O. Box 30025 Park Place, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 4X3.

Doug was the youngest of three children born to Maurice and Jagie Gibbons, on June 1, 1952, in Lethbridge. His two loving older sisters, Shirley and Diane, were thrilled to welcome him into the family.

Doug spent his formative years working at the JM Gibbons and Sons store in Picture Butte for his father before attending Mount Royal College in Calgary, where he earned a degree in Media Arts. This is where he also started his own business; video recording weddings, graduations and other special events. Prior to his parents’ deaths, he was their main caregiver.

Doug loved working down at the pasture and in his spare time you could find him working on rebuilding or fixing Apple computers, almost always, with a glass of Coke in his hand. For many seniors around Picture Butte, including Ann Gibbons and Helen Boras, Doug was always willing to lend a hand by driving them to appointments or picking up groceries. For the past five years Doug has been an active member of the Picture Butte Elks Club. His generosity with his time and energy was always appreciated and his friendship will greatly missed.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. CATHERINE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 762 Crescent Avenue, Picture Butte, AB, on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Ian Gagne celebrating.
