ROBERT BLAIR “Robbie”, “Rob”

July 28, 1988 – June 26, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of ROBERT BLAIR on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the age of 30 years.

Rob was a wonderful son to Gordon & Pamela Blair and brother to Charlie. He will be greatly missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, two grandmas – who knew his favourite treats – and many friends made along the journey.

He will be remembered by many for his sparkling eyes, easy demeanour and smile, laughter and giggles, and always kindness.

Rob loved to travel; he visited Ontario over many summers to spend time with relatives and later studied and traveled in Europe.

He was a graduate of Agnes Davidson, Gilbert Patterson, LCI and the University of Lethbridge (Math). Rob, in his last few years, struggled with his mental illness, which eventually led to his passing. He needs to be remembered not for this, but for the happy-go-lucky fellow that he was.

A Celebration of Rob’s Life will be held at McKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 – 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating.

In lieu of flowers etc., any donations to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta would be gratefully appreciated, so that others may be helped. https://www.schizophrenia.ab.ca/how-i-can-help

BRYANT

Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Bryant passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife, Margie, and his family in Powell River, British Columbia, on June 28th, 2019. Larry was born at Ocean Falls on July 29th, 1930. He was a beloved son who was predeceased by his parents, Laurie and Esther Bryant. Larry was of Finnish and English heritage. His early love for animals developed into a passion for Veterinary Medicine where his healing hands helped countless large and small animals. He graduated from UBC in 1952 with a B.Sc. Agriculture and from OVC-Guelph in 1959 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Surgeon. Mom and Dad met in 1954. They developed a deep, loving, lifelong relationship that took them to Guelph where they were married in 1956. Dad completed his studies and they began their family. Dad and Mom moved west to live and work in BC, then in Spruce View, and Nobleford, Alberta, always as a partnership in his veterinary practice. In his work, there was a serenity and confidence: a patient knowledge of the mysteries beneath skin and bone. He retired in 1991, which allowed him more time for reading, coffee with Mom, and family. His dog, Dally, added a significant quality of life for Dad this last 13 years, and he enjoyed his rose garden and ocean view. Dad was many things to the people who knew him: father, husband, veterinarian, friend, champion pigeon racer, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa. Larry is survived by Margie, his loving wife of 62 years, and his eight children, Tom (Camille), Jack (Bev), Carol (Jim), Ross (Lynne), Mary, Blythe (Bruce), Rachel (Christian), and David (Cynthia), 19 grandchildren, Jason, Steven, Greg, Lewis, Solomon, Jessica, Allison, Nathaniel, Courtney, Ashleigh, Zachary, Henry, Clarice, Jennie, Niko, Marc-Antoine, Samuel, Charles-Emile, Sophia, and 6 great-grandchildren, Brodie, Breanna, Bryce, William, Lily, and Winter, all whom he loved unconditionally. Larry was deeply loved and will be missed immensely. He was a humble man, forever an optimist, compassionate about community, who loved to share in an intelligent conversation. He treated people and animals with respect, dignity, and genuine kindness. Larry’s faith journey was grounded in Christ and he confidently lived a balance between science and faith. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith, and he will receive the crown of glory. A private family service was held on Saturday; there will be no funeral. If you wish to make a donation in honour of Larry, choose a charity of your choice.

HOYE

LAURENCE GEORGE HOYE passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell Care Centre on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the age of 87 years.

Laurence is survived and lovingly remembered by his two daughters and their families: Lorna & Dave Jones and their son, Jesse of Maple Ridge BC and Valorie Hoye & Michael Methot of Port Coquitlam BC, as well as his nephew, Devon Sissons in Toronto ON.

He was predeceased by his wife, Frances (née Sissons), and his sister, Gladys Jowett, who both passed in 1993.

Laurence was born in Lloydminster SK on June 9, 1932, later moving off the family farm there and into the city of Edmonton. He earned both Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees in Mathematics from the University of Alberta. He and Fran settled in Lethbridge in 1961 when he accepted a job at the local community college. From there, he became part of the team that spearheaded the push for a university. Dad went on to teach and hold administrative positions at the University of Lethbridge from its founding in 1967 until his retirement.

In the years after his wife’s passing and his retirement from the university, Laurence found many new activities of interest: from involvement in the Diamond City Community Association while he lived there, to supporting LUSI (Lethbridge United Services Institute) and PROBUS, as well as advocating for nuclear power as part of the informal Energy Collegium. Through it all, “the boys” kept watching, collecting, photographing and talking about trains every week of every year.

The family wishes to thank all of his tremendous friends and the staff at Chinook Regional Hospital, Edith Cavell Care Centre and Alberta Health Services in Lethbridge as well as Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary for their diligent care of Laurence in the last couple of years of his life.
