Lien Han Ho
1958 – 2019
Lien Han Ho (nee Du) of Lethbridge passed away unexpectedly on August 2nd, 2019 at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, at the age of 61 years old.
Lien was born in Mong Cai, Vietnam to Hung and Tai Che Du on May 5, 1958. At the height of Vietnam’s persecution of its Chinese minority in 1978, Lien relocated to China where she met Va Xay Ho. Together with Va, they relocated to a refugee camp in Macau where they married and had 2 children, Kim and Ben. In 1982, they relocated to Lethbridge as refugees and began their new life in a new land.
Lien worked hard for 35 years at the only job she ever had at Lakeview Bakery to ensure her children had a life that she never had. She and Va carefully put aside their earnings for their children’s future and rarely, if ever, spent lavishly on themselves. Understanding their parent’s sacrifices, Kim and Ben studied hard, earned university degrees and both enjoy successful professional careers.
All her life, she dreamed of one day owning a big home. Despite all the hardships and sacrifices in life, she and Va realized their dream and she spent the last few years of her life happily living in their house across from the lake.
Lien was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was proud of her children and loved being a grandma to Connor, Kingston, Emily, and Amara. She loved cooking family meals and was always the last person to sit and enjoy the meal after everyone was taken care of. When not putting others ahead of herself, she enjoyed regular walks around the lake.
Left to cherish Lien’s memory are her husband Va Ho; daughter Kim (Ben) Kwan; son Ben (Anna) Ho and her grandchildren Connor, Kingston, Emily, and Amara. She is also survived by her father Hung Du; siblings Han Jen (Wong Zhang), Han Gai (Wong Kai Jen), Han Nang (Du Ahn), Han Feng (Feng Yu Xiu), Ricky (Ho Tac Feng), Stephanie, Toan (Mo Li), and Jenny. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Tai Che Du.
