POIRIER

Oct. 2, 1947 – Nov. 5, 2019

PENNY ANN LYNN POIRIER, beloved spouse of Larry Wyrostok of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Therese Villa on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the age of 72 years.

Penny is survived by her partner of 25 years, Larry Wyrostok, her three children, Vanessa Freel, Kirby (Beth) Magierowski and Tiffany (Rory) O’Brien, as well as her special grandchildren, Zachary Freel, Lola & Harvey O’Brien and Lewis Magierowski. She is also survived by her brother, Dale Poirier, her sister-in-law, Mary Poirier and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Thelma Josephine & Albert Joseph Poirier and her loving brother, Calvin Poirier.

She and Larry shared a vibrant home for their seven spoiled fur babies, Hooper, Radar, Maggie, Rambo, Columbo, Mojo & Willow and many more on their babysitting schedule.

Penny was born in Fernie, BC. As the middle and wild child between her two brothers, she always kept life exciting for Nan. In 1957, she and her family moved to Lethbridge where Penny came to meet many special friends. Eventually, she raised her three children with all her strength and unconditional love. The impact she had on her children has left an irreplaceable void in their hearts.

Penny worked hard her entire life, managing Orange Julius and cleaning houses after work to ensure her kids had everything. She was loved by all mall staff and mentored many young girls at the start of their working careers.

Two things Penny loved more than life itself were her grandchildren and her dogs—everything took a backseat to them.

Penny had a deep and compassionate love for all animals. She spent many hours raising funds for rescues and the Humane Society and always carried dog treats in her car and purse. She could be found handing them out to dogs in cars, homeless people with dogs and dogs at her hairdresser. Each time she went to the Humane Society, Larry was scared that they would have another “baby”.

Penny suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for nearly three years—a short time for a bighearted girl. Her family always kept her dignity and she never went a day without love.

She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, fur babies, special friends and all else who knew her. She will especially be missed by her beloved Larry, who was her support, patience and love until her very last breath. We are comforted by knowing that she is in a place filled with all her dogs and many more puppy kisses.

A Celebration of Penny’s Life will be held at ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH no. 4, 324 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., with Words of Remembrance at 2:30 P.M.

In memory of Penny, the family kindly asks for those attending the service to bring an unwrapped dog toy or treat to be donated to the Lethbridge Humane Society and various dog rescues.

The family extends many special thanks to the care staff of St. Therese Villa and the many friends—with extra love to Cynthia and Karen—who helped with her journey throughout the past couple of years.
