FLORENCE PETRIK
March 18, 1947 – June 10, 2020
It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Florence on June 10, 2020.
Born in Cardston, AB, and grew up on the Blood Reserve, she attended the St. Mary’s Residential School.
Florence met the love of her life Frank in 1962. Frank worked for CP Rail and was transferred to De Winton where they began their family. Frank was transferred to Lethbridge and finally to Cranbrook, B.C., where they spent the next 49 years.
She enjoyed travelling and visited Europe, Arizona, Nevada, Tennessee and went on a Mexican Cruise with her sister Joyce. She was an avid collector of lapel pins from her travels and would often ask family to bring her lapel pins from their travels as well. Frank and Florence would often spend time in Eureka and Kalispell, Montana. She had many friends in the states and she especially enjoyed spending her time with her friend Robin. Florence also enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, and loved her “Wing Wednesday” and eating at Edo’s on her trips to Alberta. She spent most of her life dedicated to her family. Florence adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed sharing stories of her grandchildren with her family. Florence took many trips back to Alberta and the Blood Reserve to visit her family and friends.
During the last few years of her life, mom’s health deteriorated, and she could not travel as much as she would have liked, so instead she learned to use social media to connect with family and friends.
Florence will be greatly missed by her husband Frank, daughter Crystal, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sister Joyce, niece Flora, and many family and friends too numerous to mention.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you, to the Doctors and Nurses at East Kootenay Regional Hospital ICU, who took such good care of her during her final days. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Tate and Dr. Fell (Calgary), who showed great care and compassion to Florence.
She is survived by her husband Frank of 57 years, daughter Crystal (Brad), grandchildren Kori (Steve), Jessica (Naruka), Nicole (David), Dylan, Kasandra, Gabrielle, Kursten and Brandon, her great grandchildren, Jordan, Lily, sisters Joyce (Ron), Cynthia, nieces, Flora (Darryl), Roxanne, nephews Stacy (Crystal), Cam (Stephanie).
Florence was predeceased by her parents Henry Sr. and Flora, her son, Frank Jr., brothers, Henry Jr., Terry “Charles”, Infant siblings, Geraldine, and Jordan.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private Wake and Interment will be held at McPherson’s Funeral Services/Westlawn Cemetery for immediate family and friends. Florence’s service will be recorded and available on the McPherson’s Funeral Services website and a Celebration of Life will be held on the Blood Reserve at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
