MAY NGOR (YUEN) LEE
May Ngor (Yuen) Lee was born July 2, 1920 in Nanoose Bay, BC. She passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at St. Michael’s Health Centre, Lethbridge, Alberta. She celebrated her 100th birthday in 2020 in Lethbridge.
Mom often told us the story of her birth. She was born in a stable where her father Ben Wing Yuen worked as a blacksmith. Her aunt was getting married and was worried that if she heard a baby’s cry on her wedding day, it would mean bad luck to her. Her dad ended up delivering her as the doctor did not arrive on time. After this incident, her dad felt confident enough to deliver all the rest of her siblings.
She received some of her English education in Victoria, BC. When she was nine, her family moved to Taishan, China, where she learned to read and write Chinese.
She married Jimmy Hon Men Lee in Victoria in 1938 and resided in Lethbridge. It was a very successful arranged marriage. All of her married life was spent living in Lethbridge. In later years after Jimmy passed away, she would spend a lot of time visiting family in Vancouver.
May was predeceased by her husband and her son Victor, daughter Vivian, son-in-law Bob Cameron, and son-in-law John Chan. She is survived by daughters Virginia (Vic Mochizuki), Ivy, Ilona (Kim Cheong Lai), Jane (Phil Devonshire), and Judy, and son Byron (Nancy Hodge), daughter-in-law Wendy Lee, son-in-law Victor Tang, 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
May’s main hobbies were knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching afghans and cushion covers. She made afghans for everyone in her immediate family and her own siblings, and some nieces and nephews. When she was in her 90’s, Judy and John asked what she wanted for Christmas. She said she wanted to learn to email, so they bought her an iPad. She learned to use an iPad to do emailing and FaceTiming. Granddaughters Emmy and Azia helped her learn. She also started to learn Mandarin online and also to navigate to other sites.
May had an incredible memory. She remembered everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, and phone numbers for most of the family.
When asked what her secret was to longevity, she said “Forget the bad. Remember the good.”
With fond memories, we will cherish and remember this good person.

MACKENZIE
HELEN CHRISTINE MACKENZIE (née Rollag) passed away at St. Therese Villa on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the age of 99 years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Gordon Mackenzie in 1991, her sons Brian Ray Mackenzie in 1968 and Donald Dean Mackenzie in 2017 as well as five of her six siblings.
Helen is lovingly remembered by her daughter Susan (Lon) Redpath and their daughter, Megan (Jay) McMillan; Don’s wife, Judy Mackenzie and their children, Christie (Mike) Archibald and David Mackenzie: and Brian’s daughter, Caroline Mackenzie; eight great-grandchildren, Raygen, Rylee, Nathan, Connor, Lexie and Jesse Archibald and Dane and Chance McMillan; as well as her sister, Josie Williams of Canmore. Throughout her life, Helen maintained extremely close ties with all of her siblings as well as nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Helen was the youngest child of John and Amanda Rollag, who homesteaded in Wrentham, Alberta. She spent most of her childhood on the farm before moving to Wynndel, BC with her parents in grade 12. Upon completing high school, Helen returned to Alberta and married Gordon in 1942. They raised their three children on the family farm in Wrentham. Their door was always open and often an extra family member or friend could be found at the breakfast table. In 1974, they retired to Lethbridge and Helen enjoyed much of the next decade spending as much as she earned in retail jewelry sales. She and Gordon were both very involved in all aspects of the Lethbridge Shrine Club and thoroughly enjoyed the altruism and fellowship the organization provided. In 1982, they made their maiden trip to Mesa, Arizona and by 1986, they were spending half of every year there. These were special years. The following years were spent cheering on her family on the horse show circuit and at the Black Powder Gun Club range.
Helen was fun loving and “game” for anything. She was funny, kind and a hard working person who was liked by all who knew her. She was very much a lady, maintained a strong sense of morality and took pride in all that she did.
Special thanks from the family go to Drs. Janzen, Crawford, Smith and Horne as well as the hardworking caring staff of Garden View Lodge, Sunny South Lodge and St. Therese Villa. A special mention to Heather Schindler, Sierra Proudfoot, Dawn Lapointe and Don Gustam for always going above and beyond.
At Helen’s request, no funeral will be held. A private Graveside Service will take place at a later date. Helen will be laid to rest with her son Brian in Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Helen, please consider a donation to the Lethbridge Shrine Club, 315A – 10 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2M7.

Most of Sara’s Hungarian family is now gone. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband, brother, and in-laws.
Sara Konkoly Papp was born March 28th, 1932, in Heves, Hungary. In September of 1952, she married Miklos Papp of Budapest, Hungary. Sara and Nick fled Hungary along with their son Miklos, during the Hungarian revolution of 1956. They came to Canada on the Italian Liner “Saturina” in 1957.
