EDWARDS
Dr. Wayne John Edwards
1954 – 2021
It is with great sadness that we inform you that Dr. Edwards passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital from complications of COVID 19 on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at the age of 66 years.
Dr. Edwards was born in Trinidad and migrated to Canada in 1995. He leaves behind his wife, Harriet, and his sons, Andre and Adrian. His death also precedes that of his parents Garnet and Faith, brothers David and Philip, sister Judy and adopted ‘sister’ Diane Williams.
Dr. Edwards earned his medical degree in Jamaica at the University of the West Indies. He received a government scholarship to study psychiatry in London from 1983 to 1988 where he pursued his post-graduate degree at St. George’s Hospital under the mentorship of his lifelong friend Dr. Aggrey Burke.
After completing his government service in Trinidad, the family migrated to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, where he worked at the Regional Hospital from 1995 to 2002. A firm and solid friendship was established with his colleagues Drs. Jim and Julie Chandler while the family lived in that small and beautiful town with its many lakes.
Wayne and his family moved to Lethbridge in 2003 and all family members became Canadian citizens two years later. Dr. Edwards initially practiced at the Bigelow Fowler Clinic South before opening a private clinic. Additionally, his practice included working at the hospital, the Children’s Mental Health Clinic, the Adult Mental Health Clinic, a stint at the University of Lethbridge, and monthly visits to the clinic in Milk River.
Apart from medicine, Dr. Edwards’ passion was music. He played the piano, organ and steel drum, and was heavily involved in the music ministry at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church. Dr. Edwards loved to travel and was able to visit several places on his bucket list, including visits to China, Japan, Australia and St. Petersburg, Russia. His other interests included a fascination with planes and automobiles.
Dr. Edwards was a highly respected medical practitioner who dedicated his life to the service of his patients. He will be greatly missed.
Our thanks go out to the doctors and nurses at the ICU who worked valiantly to save Wayne’s life. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the clergy of St. Augustine’s Church, Revs. Steve Bateman and James Robinson and other members of the parish family who have been a bedrock of support during a very difficult time. Special hugs and kisses to Barbara, Carina, Dorothy, Karen and Shannon in this regard. Our gratitude also extends to our neighbours, especially Charlene, Mark and Hannah, his colleagues and friends who were unstinting in their encouragement.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Steve Bateman officiating. The service will be live streamed and may be accessed via Wayne’s obituary on the Cornerstone website or the St. Augustine’s Anglican Church’s Facebook page.

Connie Fettig (nee Vervalcke)
1920 – 2021
Connie Fettig (nee Vervalcke) passed away on April 11, 2021 in Medicine Hat at the age of 100 years.
Connie will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children Sandra, Maxine (Phil), Len (Diane), and Fran; grandchildren Kyle (Christine), Ryan (Julie), Zoë (Ben); great grandchildren Rachel, Briea, Elise, Kellan and Rayelle. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Martin; daughter in law Karen; son in law Andrew and seven siblings.
Connie was born in Meyronne, Sask on November 19, 1920 to Belgium immigrants. Times were tough, but there was plenty of love and laughter. A lifelong reader, Connie could reliably be found with her nose in a book – earning her the moniker “Big Book” as a child. Upon completion of Grade 12, she took a secretarial course at Balfour Tech in Regina, and then worked at Simpson Sears.
In 1947, Connie married her sweetheart, Martin. Together they farmed in the Grassy Lake Alberta area, raising their four children. Connie was an exceptional mother. She excelled at cooking, baking and sewing, making all her childrens’ clothes. Her love of reading enhanced her eloquent diction, which she put to work writing poems, family reunion tributes, as well as entering (and winning) jingle contests.
Connie and Martin retired to the Okanagan Valley, happily spending over thirty years there. Connie was active in their church, community, and local bowling alley. She was a lover of card games, especially canasta, which they regularly played with friends. Connie was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and looked forward to baseball season each year. It was during this time that her and Martin also travelled. Trips to Belgium were a highlight as well as seventeen bus tours.
Connie was a fashionista! She loved dressing up and her ensemble always had accessories to match! But above all else, Connie had an enduring relationship with God. He was her mainstay throughout her life. She was so ready to meet her Savior and be reunited with Martin and her family and friends who have gone on before.
The light she has brought to our lives will continue to live on and we will remember her whenever we have a good laugh – which was her greatest pleasure of all!
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

McKenzie Fuller
1989 – 2021
McKenzie Fuller of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, and formerly of Lethbridge, Alberta, cherished daughter of Shelly, treasured sister to Macey, and adored aunt to Sebastian, passed away peacefully following a brief battle with her health in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, on Monday, March 29, 2021 at the age of 32 years.
McKenzie was born on January 12, 1989 in Lethbridge, Alberta.
McKenzie spent the last 8 years living in paradise. Working at Shooters Sports Bar in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico where she met and made long lasting friendships with people from all across Canada and the States. She had a tender heart and infectious smile that could brighten a room and many customers came back to the bar annually to see her, drink a Pacifico and share a good laugh. McKenzie had a great love for her family and friends which usually meant that they didn’t have much of a choice when it was time for an adventure. She had a passion in helping others in making their dreams come to fruition where they could start making their own memories of being in paradise. Throughout her brief battle with her health she didn’t let that slow her down, her commitment to her family and friends was most important and because of that she wanted to do as much as she could for each of them.
To share a couple quotes that McKenzie had shared from Positive Energy, and Power of Positivity:
Be silly. Be Fun. Be different. Be crazy. Be you, because life is too short to be anything but happy.
LIFE IS AN ECHO. What you send out – comes back. What you sow – you reap. What you give – you get. What you see in others – exists in you.
Do not judge – so you will NOT be judged. Radiate and Give LOVE and Love comes back to you.
She will be greatly missed by so many.
In honor of McKenzie, please take the time to “Pay it Forward” whether it be a random act of kindness, a smile, or a kind word, just take the time to show others you truly care.
“Be thankful for what you have and never forget those who have
influenced you to become the person you are. Love you…”
