Betty Rempel

Agnes Elizabeth Rempel (nee Bryans, formerly Skelly), passed away in Taber on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at the age of 88 years.
Betty is survived by her children Arlene (Roger) Miles of Taber, Barbara (Randy) Burrows of Lethbridge, Bob (Linda) Skelly of Calgary, David (Fely) Skelly of Calgary and Bill (Marita) Skelly of Taber; her grandchildren Lindsay (Dustin) Sararas, Ashley (Kevin) Hill, Bryan (Lindsay) Burrows, Megan Skelly, Kyle (Jobelle) Skelly, Lindon Skelly, Chelsea Skelly, Brynn Skelly and by eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Meta (David) Burnison and Kathleen Usher; brother-in-law Rodney Rogers and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband Bob Skelly on January 14, 2008 and her second husband Henry Rempel on May 12, 2012. She was also predeceased by her parents David and Rosena Bryans, brothers Fred (Jean) Bryans and Roy Bryans; sisters Anne (Harry) Moore, Ethel (Dick) Taggart and Ena Rogers; brother-in-law John Usher and sister-in-law Frances (Bill) Wylie.
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on June 17, 1932, Betty married Bob in 1951 and in 1953 Betty, Bob and their baby daughter Arlene left Northern Ireland and moved to Canada, settling in Kenora, Ontario. In the following years, Betty and the family moved west to Winnipeg, then Regina and finally to Vauxhall in 1970. In 2019 Betty moved to Clearview Lodge in Taber where she resided until her death.
She had an endearing way of speaking. On top of her Northern Ireland accent, Betty would add “wee” phrases to the end of her sentences such as “so I did”, “so she did” and other variations thereof. She also frequently said “Oh, dear me”, so she did. Many people remarked how they enjoyed this about her. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, playing cards (especially cribbage), knitting and crocheting, attending church and bible study, hosting family get togethers, trips back to Ireland to see her family, and visiting with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her large circle of friends.
Betty was a kind person known for her willingness to help others in need, often visiting people in hospital or Extendicare and helping friends and family whenever a need arose. She would also take the time to chat with all. She had the rare gift of leaving those she encountered feeling better than they did before she had arrived. Betty was energetic about everything she did and her family often joked that she had only one speed for everything – full out.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 – 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Brent Woodard officiating. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.
