HEAVEN

Lola Alice Heaven was born October 1, 1921, living a remarkable 100 years. She might be remembered for living through the Great Depression, leaving school at age 12 to go to work, or raising a daughter while her husband served overseas during WW2. She might be congratulated for living so long and experiencing many changes in the world like delivering messages to the neighbours by horse back or facetiming great grandkids. But Lola’s legacy is ultimately in what she taught us all about living.

Lola did not approach life as if it was a journey collecting experiences and meeting goals. Instead, she lived well, one important minute to the next. She busied her hands when she was idle. She found beauty on a rainy day. She enjoyed the lively banter that emerged from a game of cards at the kitchen table. And mostly, she lived for the company of people. She was not only excited about others, but she was also excited for others. She made each of us to feel as if we mattered to her.

As a life-long Flames fan on the lead up to her 100th birthday, it pained Lola delightfully to spend a whole year associated with number 99 🙂 She was thrilled to make her 100th birthday and in the process gave the world a model for a long and graceful life. Whether she was offering up another homemade cookie, or simply twinkling her eyes during a good chat through a pandemic-safe exterior window (see picture above), her outlook was unwaveringly “wonder-full.”

Most special to her were her husband Pat, her 3 children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her younger sister, Pearl. Of equal mention were her many life-long friends whom she spoke of with deep fondness. Lola’s second family were the residents and staff at Columbia Aged Care. She treasured how lucky she was to be surrounded by wonderful friends and caregivers.

Lola Alice Heaven was one of a kind and we will miss her. We love you sweet Grammie!

In lieu of flowers please donate to your local foodbank.

Mary was born on September 2, 1932 in the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge. She grew up in the Readymade district and lived most of her life on the farm east of Coaldale. She and Fred retired to Lethbridge in 2004 where she resided until her passing.

Fred and Mary were married May 6th, 1953 and began their lives together on the farm where they raised their four children. Life on the farm was busy and involved maintaining a large yard with a beautiful garden, milking cows and raising chickens; but she always had time for a chat on the phone or a visit and cup of coffee for anyone who stopped by. She travelled to many places and was always ready for a grand adventure with friends and family. Mary loved driving and never feared the gravel roads or the occasional snow drift.

Once the kids were grown, Mary started a 17-year career at Sears, working in customer service. She loved being around people and was involved in many organizations including Readymade 50 Plus club, Revelers, Red Hatters and also served on her condo board.

Mary’s love of life and people touched the lives of all those who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Rose Elizabeth Szigli

June 5, 1919 – October 23, 2021

It is with great sadness, that we said goodbye to our precious dear Mom on Saturday October 23, 2021, at the age 102.

After many close calls, our dear Mom was a fighter to the end. Due to complications from pneumonia, she fought her final battle. This was not covid related.

Rose was born in Esterhazy, Sask on June 5, 1919, to Mike & Marcella Chomos. She was the eldest of 9 children. Mom met our dear Dad Steve, at a church function in Lestock, Sask. They were married for 70 years until his passing on February 14, 2009. She was also predeceased by her parents, her 8 siblings, her daughters, Shirley and “little” Annie and son David.

In the mid forties they moved from Lestock to Taber. Mom worked very hard not only in the home raising her children but also helping Dad in the sugar beet fields hoeing and topping the sugar beets.

Our Mom lived for her family! She was an amazing cook and made the best ever cabbage rolls and rhubarb pie. We always had lots to eat as Mom always had a huge garden and did a lot of canning. She also made her own bread and noodles. After retiring from the farm in Purple Springs in 1974 they moved to Lethbridge. She loved her flowers and had a green thumb for her African Violets. Mom and Dad took great pleasure and pride in their garden and yard. Mom was an avid bowler with Dad and they won trophies and had a lot of fun with their friends.

Mom was a devout Catholic and loved going to church. She prayed the rosary every day when she was able. She was also a long-time member of the ladies CWL.

With grace and honor we celebrated Mom’s 100th Birthday in June 2019 with family and friends. It was an amazing day! She so enjoyed all the family and friends that came to celebrate this special occasion with her.

She leaves to mourn her children: Ken (Doreen), Darlene Delorme, Dianne (Jim) Rediker, Roseanne Tucker (Stan Wall), Lloyd (Eunice). She has many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

After 18 years at St. Michaels, we would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff for their loving care of our Mother Rose. Mom was loved very much, and her beautiful smile will be missed by all.

Love you Mom

God be with you till we meet again.

Your children.
