Roy Asato

August 22,1931 – March 8, 2022

It is with great sadness to announce Roy Asato passing at the age of 90 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister June Asato, nieces, nephews and friends. Roy was predeceased by his parents Kama and Matsu (Frank), brothers Tom, Sam and sisters Sally and Mona.

Roy was born on a farm near Crystal Lake, Alberta. He worked with this dad on the farm until he earned his mechanic licence in 1955 and then began working in Coaldale. In 1962, he travelled to Thompson Manitoba and worked at the nickel mine and hydro plant as a mechanic. Roy returned to Alberta in 1965 and started his own business, Roy Asato Trucking. He helped build many roads around Lethbridge, Lake Louise and Southern Alberta until 1986.

Roy was a sports enthusiast his entire life. From the time he was a child, he loved playing baseball and hockey. When he got older, he enjoyed curling with his team in Coaldale and played until his senior years. When he wasn’t in the game, he was watching on TV. Roy wrote statistics for every baseball game he watched in his notepad.

Roy had a love for cars, driving and seeing the sights. He had a habit of packing up and going in a moment’s notice and would find his way to Las Vegas to take in some shows and gamble.

Roy was a very kind and compassionate man and enjoyed visiting his friends at the seniors centre every morning and for lunch for many years. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Cremation has been entrusted to Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home and a graveside service will take place at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, AB in summer of 2022. Date to be announced.

EDWARDS

On Tuesday, March 8th, 2022, PAUL EDWARDS, loving husband and father of two children, passed away suddenly at the age of 70.

Paul was born in Blackpool, England and immigrated to Canada when he was just three. Paul owned his own business and then went to the Lethbridge Regional Hospital to work in the Maintenance and Planning departments, followed by his retirement in 2012. Paul was passionate about his work, but not as much as his family. After his retirement he opened Drunken Sailor with Loralee and they were part of a vibrant downtown.

Paul was preceded in death by his father Lawrence and his mother Doreen. His heart never quite healed from their loss. He is survived by his wife Loralee and two daughters Lisa (Chris) and Jodi (Pierre-Luc) and grandchildren Josh and Gabby. He is also survived by his sister Kathy (Gord), David (Mary-Anne) and Gary (Toni). Also very special to him were Loralee’s family, her Mom Bonnie (Gord), and siblings Sara, Jonathan, Joel, and Jason.

Paul loved people and he loved to cook. He loved caring and serving those he loved. He was happiest with a full house, serving food he had lovingly prepared. He had a blue-collar heart and an artist soul. He supported Loralee in everything and he was so proud of his daughters.

Paul was a gentle giant; a loving and caring man and he is already missed by so many. Although Paul did not die of kidney failure, he was lucky enough to receive one from his sister, he was passionate about organ donation. Please discuss your wishes with your family.

An open house will be held at TRIANON GALLERY (upstairs), 104 – 5 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday, March 13 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Please come and share a story or hug.
