1931 – 2022

Mildred (MILLIE) Joyce McKenzie GAUDRY passed away on April 25, 2022 at Chinook Regional Hospital, at the age of 91 years.

She is survived by her son Lee (Judi) Gaudry of Calgary; daughters Sue (Zoltan) Nagy of Lethbridge, Berna (Brian) Holland of Calgary; and Grandson’s Justin Nagy and Joe Nagy both of Lethbridge. She was beloved ‘Aunt Millie” to many nieces and nephews.

Mom was born on April 22, 1931 and raised on the family farm near Goodwater, Saskatchewan. She was the baby of the family and after her father passed away in 1948, her mother and her moved into town to Weybum.

Mom met Dad at a dance near Weyburn when she was 22 and from there, the adventure began. It took them to many different homes across Western Canada, Oklahoma, as well as overseas to England and Scotland. Eventually they landed in the Lethbridge area and where she resided until her passing. She travelled a lot over all those years, going on to a new town and making a cozy new home for her family. Mom’s favorite vacation was to Maui in December 1995.

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, donations may be made to HALO AMBULANCE, 12-1 Airport Drive S.W, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5G4, or https://www.haloairambulance.com/ .

HOFER

WILMA ROSINA (BRUBAKER) HOFER passed peacefully on to her Home in Heaven on April 26, 2022. In her passing, she was surrounded by family who loved her. Her favorite songs and Bible verses were a strength to her thoughout her lifetime and a special comfort to her in her last days.

Wilma was born on March 23, 1932 to Marlin and Anna Brubaker in Duchess, Alberta where she spent her early years. Her character and trust in God were deeply influenced by observing the godly example of her parents faith and trust in Him throughout hardships and trials in life. In her youth, she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was baptized. She was a member of the Stirling Mennonite Church at the time of her passing. Her life was a testimony of her faith and trust in her Savior.

As she grew in life and character, she had a desire to study of the things of God. In her youth she attended winter Bible school sessions held in various communities. She grew up in a home where her father was a deacon in the church, and her mother faithfully supported his work.

She married Paul J Hofer, on November 1, 1953 and they made their home on a farm near Raymond, Alberta. She found contentment trusting God in the challenges of making ends meet while raising a growing family in a small house.

Wilma came to love the Christian songs she had grown up with, and she discovered the joy they brought, in spite of trying circumstances. Her early morning Bible reading became a meaningful habit, and gave her strength to live well during the days. When asked once by a friend, why she got up so early in the morning for her devotions, her quick reply was, “ I can’t afford not to.” She spent time in the evenings reading Bible stories, singing, and praying with her squirming youngsters, trusting God to establish her work in their lives. Today, ‘Her children rise up and call her blessed’, not because she was perfect, but because she was ‘a woman that feared the Lord’. Her husband Paul was chosen as a minister in the Stirling Mennonite Church in 1982. She was a faithful companion in this work and strong support in his labors until he passed away in 1995. She clung to the promises of God, and sang through her tears as she adjusted to life as a widow. She continued to be a trusted friend and confidante to those who knew her.

Wilma’s wish to remain in her home until her passing, was possible because of the loving care of local family members. We, as a family, are very thankful for the professional, compassionate care of Dr. Baker.

She is survived by two sons and eight daughters: Paul Jr (Lula) Hofer of Raymond, AB, Joanna (Delbert) Birky of Raymond, AB, Christina (Leland) Kropf of Harrisburg, OR, Florence Yoder of Fairland, OK, Barbara (David) Peachey of Baytree, AB, Jean (Vernon) Helmuth of Bonners Ferry, ID, Faye (Robert) Birky of Madras, OR, Lorna Martin of Bonners Ferry, ID, Carol (Alan) Ruckert of Stann Creek District, Belize, and Michael (Julia) Hofer of Raymond, AB, 52 grandchildren, 82 great- grand children and one sister, Ruth(Brubaker) Ramer.

She was preceeded in death by her loving husband, Paul J Hofer, her parents, her brothers :Raymond and Marlin, daughter- in-law: LeAnna(Kauffman) Hofer, sons-in law: Jonathan Byler, Mark Yoder, and 1 great-granddaughter, Katelyn Kropf.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Nick Marchuk, sons Bradley Allan Marchuk and Larry Nicholas Marchuk and by her siblings Bob Dorosh, Olga Burant, Russell Dorosh, Stella Kotack, Nat Hutcheon, Joe Dorosh and Muriel Rogan.

Pat was born on January 29, 1932 on the family homestead near Ituna, Saskatchewan and attended Lunnville School. She was the sixth child of ten children born to Nick and Michelina Dorosh. After living in Yorkton for twenty one years, Pat and Nick moved to Lethbridge, Fort Macleod, Purple Springs and then back to Lethbridge where they resided until their passings.

Pat led a busy, hard working life. She was involved in a number of successful businesses, notably Pat’s Lunch in Good Spirit Lake, Saskatchewan and the store in Purple Springs. She would count her large family as her greatest success. The door at the Marchuk household was always open. If it wasn’t some of the many family members coming and going, it was friends coming for a visit or a game of cards. A gathering wasn’t complete without a game of cards and endless story telling.

Pat was a fun loving, positive woman fiercely protective of her family and happiest surrounded by family. Many hours were spent around the table having coffee, playing cards and sharing laughs. Following retirement, he played almost daily, well into his eighties. He had an abiding affection for horses and treasured time spent riding and caring for them.

A deep and enduring faith in God was reflected in the way Jake lived his life. He was a man of great integrity and was a good, kind and gentle soul. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren adored him. He had boundless energy, he played games, told stories, sang songs and shared so many laughs. His legacy of love and family will be cherished and he will be dearly missed.

The family would like to convey sincere gratitude to Jake’s family physician, Dr. Colin Walsh, Home Care Case Manager Janae Jakobsen, and the staff on 3C Surgery at Chinook Regional Hospital, for the wonderful medical care and compassion extended to their dear father.

Evelyn was born at Heatherdown, Alberta, a little town close to Stoney Plain. She and her family had to endure the next step to move to Lethbridge. Evelyn came to Lethbridge with her family in the spring of 1942. They slept in the back of a truck until they got to her Auntie Emma’s house. Then they rented a house at the river bottom, known as Indian Battle Park (Fort Whoop-Up).

On August 23, 1943, she met Irvine at Trianon Ball Room dance and fell in love. They were engaged on November 24, 1944, and marriage followed on May 4, 1946. Together, Evelyn and Irvine farmed and raised five children north of Coaldale, AB.

In September 1999, they retired in Lethbridge. Evelyn worked on the farm all the time, combining, cultivating, hoeing sugar beets and irrigating the crops. She also did the bookkeeping, raised an organic garden, baking, cooking and canning. She cooked many family dinners for everyone. Evelyn was the kindest, most helpful person you could know.

Later on, Evelyn and Irvine went to Fairmont Extendicare. Evelyn kept busy, watering the flowers and was a volunteer on committees. She kept busy at St. Michael’s Long Term Care, making lunches for children, playing BINGO, playing cards, and colouring and painting. She even wrote a book at 87 years old!

Evelyn was the strongest, wisest extraordinary lady for her time! But most of all, she loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the moon and stars and back!
