By Lethbridge Herald Obituaries on May 7, 2022.

ALLAN, Peter H.

28 August 1950 – 27 April 2022

It is with deep sorrow for our family to say that Peter has left this place to be in a better place … we like to think he is now skiing and hang gliding amongst the clouds.

Pete was born in Lethbridge, Alberta. He earned his Engineering Degree at the University of Calgary and worked as a Civil Engineer all of his work life.

Peter loved the mountains. He always said that they were his church and he never tired of them. He loved skiing, hiking, climbing both rock and ice, fly fishing, spelunking and just being in and amongst those big rocks. He taught his girls how to embrace them too. He earned the nicknames “Speedy Pete” by those who skied with him; “The Mountain Ox” by those who hiked with him; and “The Knoll Master” by those who he helped at Freestyle Ski events that his daughters were involved with. In the last years of his life, he lounged on our deck looking over his beloved Kootenay Lake at the mountains beyond.

Peter was deeply loved by his wife Beverley and his daughters Holly and Heather. We celebrated his birthdays with great vigor and fun each and every year. He so deserved it. Peter was diagnosed with Progressive Supra-Nuclear Palsy (PSP) in 2012. He had symptoms as early as 2010. He had so many losses because of this disease. Everything he loved to do was taken away. It broke all of our hearts. But through this very difficult journey Pete never gave up. Even the last day of his life he rode his stationary bike and ate chocolate cake. He was never bitter or angry – he was gracious throughout these years. As difficult as things were for him, he always had a smile. Remember how interested and curious he always was about everyone? He just loved people. We are going to miss him so much. He was an inspiration to everyone he met.

Peter is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverley Bruder-Allan, his beloved daughters Holly Allan and Heather Allan-Moule (Josh). His sister Rosemary Allan-Way (Dennis); his brother John Allan (Jude). Gone on before him was his sister Penny Allan. I’m sure she greeted him with her happy smile and open arms when he entered heaven.

A Celebration of Life will occur at the lodge at Castle Mountain Resort his favorite place in the world. He skied at this mountain from the start of its inception back in the 60’s. He truly was an original. Please join his family at 2pm on the 22nd of May 2022 to celebrate what an amazing man Peter was. Come with stories to tell and join his family in laughter and tears for our dear sweet man.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cure PSP Canada. https://pspsocietycanada.ca/home-ngo/donate/
