SCHNEYDER

MIKE SCHNEYDER Jr., of Magrath, passed away at Good Samaritans Garden Vista on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the age of 91 years.

Mike was born at home in December 1930. He attended school through Grade 8, at which point his help was needed full-time on the farm.

In 1951, he married Margaret Szabo and they settled on their farm west of Magrath to raise their family. Mike was a successful farmer raising grain crops, cattle and sheep. He was also one of the first to import Simmental cattle into Canada.

In 1983, Mike and Margaret moved to a home in Magrath. Even though Mike was “retired,” he spent many hours at the farms helping or watching from his truck to make sure everything was going smoothly.

One of his greatest joys as Grandpa was giving sage advice to his grandkids and handing out Big Red gum and suckers to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his later years, he and Margaret resided in Diamond Willow and later moved to Good Samaritans where he spent his final years.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, and their children: Donna (Gord) Gillespie; Bob (Margo) Schneyder and their children, Kyle (Sam) Schneyder [John, Jack & Pete], Lacey (Peter) Lappin [Sage, Sierra, Sophie & Finn] and Cole Schneyder [Bodhi]; Diane (Gary) Stanford and their children, Matthew (Melissa) Stanford [Anna, Owen, Braeden & Liam], Sean (Amberley) Stanford [Huxley & Macie], Megan Ward (née Stanford) and son Cillian and Adam Stanford (Lisa Mulgrew); Michael (Ilona) Schneyder and their children, Mikey (Savannah) Schneyder [Kinzee, Conner, Riley & Berkli] and Melissa (Doug) Heins [Brynnlee, Kianna & Cooper]; Larry (Lisa) Schneyder and their children, Jessica (Casey) Christensen [Clay, Daisy, Ruby, Elsie & Charlie], Cody (Jenni) Schneyder [Jay & Winnie], Sasha (Ric) Nevarez and Justin (Jaidyn) Schneyder.

He was a great dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, always loved and forever missed.

Following Mike’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.

THACKER, Florence

Florence Ann Thacker (nee Heck), affectionately known by her family as “Grandma Goose”, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the age of 97 years . She was born on September 19, 1924, in Denzil Saskatchewan to Anna Maria Heck, sadly her father Hironymous Heck had passed before her birth. After several years of struggling on a widow’s pension and taking in sewing to make ends meet, a marriage was arranged with Andrew Volk of Burdett who had four children of his own. The newly blended Volk family were active members of the Catholic church community and attended the Jasmine school.

Florence met her husband, George at a dance in Burdett. They were married in 1947 and raised six children; Lynn (Ute), Janis (Meryl) Goodfellow, Jim (Dalyce), Dale (Natalie), Diane (Tim) Main, and Richard.

She was predeceased by George in 2019. Florence, with boundless energy, was able to do an incredible amount of work in the home as well as in the fields. In total, she helped raise thirteen grandchildren: Raimey, Nathan, Clint, Reed, Lawnie, Kassie, Martin, Emily, Kyle, Gavin, Brianne, Cam, and Danika. She was able to enjoy in total 24 great-grandchildren.  Florence was an avid ball player and curler. At the age of 50 she found her forever sport… GOLF. This passion for golf led George and Florence to Arizona for 17 winters. Florence never lost her “Heck” sense of humour even in the final years of her life. The family wish to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at the Bow Island Long Term Care facility and to the staff at the Pleasant View Lodge. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Burdett Hall on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Bow Island and District Health Foundation c/o Long Term Care, Bow Island Health Centre, P.O.
