VOOYS, Linda

VOOYS LINDA RUTH VOOYS, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Walter Vooys, passed away with family at her side on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 75 years.
Besides her beloved husband Walter of 57 years, she is lovingly remembered by her children Cindy (Kevin) Gash and Tina (John) Tymensen, grandchildren James and Trey Tymensen and great-granddaughter Kaiya.
Linda was predeceased by her parents Bob and Ruby Brown, sisters Edna Mae Lumhein and Bev Decker and brother Wayne Brown.
At Linda’s request, no formal Funeral Service will be held, she will be privately remembered by her family and friends.

MERCER, Kathleen

KATHLEEN “KAY” MERCER 1928 2022 Mrs. Kathleen “Kay” Mercer (Nee Woodman) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ernest Mercer, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Coaldale Health Centre, on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the age of 93 years.
Kay was a kind and loving person with a soft voice who wore a smile on her face. She and her husband Ernie farmed together in the McNally area, later retiring to Lethbridge. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her hospitality; over the years hosting many gatherings of family and friends. She also had a sense of adventure; learning to snow-ski in her forties and fishing on the coast while at the cabin that she and Ernie built on Vancouver Island.
She enjoyed golfing with her sister-in-law, Kay Woodman and friend Lois. They also league bowled together for years and would enjoy lunch together after.
Kay is survived by her son Tyler and grandson Jason and numerous family members.
Kay is predeceased by her husband Ernest Mercer; son Wayne; her mother Amelia; father Jack Woodman; and three brothers Arthur, Bruce and David.
Thank you to the staff at the Coaldale Health Centre for treating Kay like a Queen.

SMITH, Cecily

CECILY SMITH 1928 – 2022 Ms. Cecily Margaret Smith of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the age of 94 years.
Cecily was born August 14, 1928 in Wollaston. U.K., the middle child of three. She trained as a nurse and worked in the U.K as a midwife. She worked in Canada and California, and later taught nursing at Medicine Hat College.
Her true passion was her garden, where she grew the vegetables that she had learned to value so highly during the war years.
She was an avid, life-long conservationist who loved nature and animals. Through her life, she enjoyed the companionship of several dogs and cats; the most recent was Patches, her cat, who departed earlier this summer.
She will be missed by her nephews, David (her godson and travel companion) and Peter, her niece, Celina (Ole), her great-niece Louise (Craig), her sister-in-law, Frances, and her dear friend, Susan Wilkie.
Cecily supported several organizations over the years. In her memory, we encourage you to send a small donation to The Nature Conservatory or The World Wildlife Federation.

PAISLEY, Dean

DEAN PAISLEY 1945 2022 Dean Paisley of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Patricia Paisley, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the age of 77 years.
Dean was born in Saskatoon, SK on September 23, 1945. He grew up on the family farm in Asquith, SK until 1957 when they moved to Saskatoon, SK where he attended Jr High and High School. In 1965, Dean decided to follow his older brothers into the transportation industry and he started his professional truck driving career. In 1968, he married Patricia Fawcett in Saskatoon, and they started their family. In 1971, they moved from Prince Albert, SK to Calgary, AB where Dean was an owner operator with H&R Transport and began raising their two children. In 1978, Dean came off the road, sold his truck and moved the family to Lethbridge, AB to begin working in the operations with H&R. In 1989, Dean went back on his own and purchased Lethbridge Truck Terminals, a small local trucking company which he grew and operated until his retirement 2013. Dean was an active member of The Lethbridge Minor Hockey Assoc. and the Lethbridge Athletic Assoc. and volunteered his time for almost 40 years. Dean was very passionate about the transportation industry, and he gave back by serving on the AMTA – Alberta Motor Transport Association Board of Directors in multiple capacities for over 35 years.
Dean is survived by his wife Patricia nee Fawcett; daughter Deana (Kirby) Nishikawa of Calgary; son Doug (Tami) Paisley of Lethbridge; brother Dale (Gloria) Paisley of Regina; sister in-law Fay (Bill) Paisley Red Deer; granddaughters Logan, Kimiko, Brooklyn and Takara; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dean was predeceased by his parents Abraham and Hazel; brothers Robert, Bill and Howard; foster son John Kobal Jr.; nephews Boyd and Ken Paisley; niece Joy Sullivan.
A Celebration of Dean’s Life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at SANDMAN SIGNATURE HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTRE (The former Lethbridge Lodge) 320 Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

RONALD “RON” HUTCHINSON 1927 2022 Mr. Ronald Earl Hutchinson of Warner, beloved husband of 71 years to Mrs. Carol Hutchinson, passed away at home, peacefully surrounded by his family, on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Ron was born on August 7, 1927 to Earl and Pat Hutchinson at the George Woitte Home, which is 4 miles away from where he resided for most of his life.
Ron is survived by his wife, Carol; son Rick (Teressa) of Provo, Utah; Mike of Warner; Kim of Lethbridge; Michele of Warner; and Wes (Julie) of Okotoks, as well as 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.

UNDERWOOD, Trevor

TREVOR UNDERWOOD 1942 – 2022 Mr. Trevor Underwood of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Robyn Underwood, passed away at Good Samaritans Park Meadows on Monday, October 24, 2022 at the age of 80 years.
Trevor was born July 7, 1942 in New Zealand. He was the 2nd of 4 children: Elva, Trevor, John and Kevin. Trevor made his choice to serve God at the age of 18 and had a genuine deep faith. He married the love of his life, Robyn in 1966. Together they started a family with 3 daughters. Mishal, Lucinda and Kathryn. Trevor built a home in Taruanga where they lived until 1981. The family moved to Whitehorse, then to Fort Macleod Alberta in 1985, and Lethbridge in 1989.
In his younger years, Trevor played rugby. He was inventive, artistic and mechanically inclined. He worked for Western Tractor for 30 years until he retired in 2019 at the age of 77. The following year he was diagnosed with dementia and was placed in the Good Samaritans Society where he lived until he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Trevor loved his family dearly and Trevor knew joy in his life because his first love was always Jesus first, others second, and himself last.
Besides his loving wife Robyn, Trevor is survived by his daughters Mishal, Lucinda (Fritz) and Kathryn; grandchildren Douglas Braun (Jessica) and Justin Braun (Amanda), Ryan Williamson (Cheyenne), Jeremy Williamson (Janai) and Brandon (Jessie) Williamson, Brady Thompson, Brianna Thompson (Ryan Geldenhuys); sisters Elva Langridge of New Zealand; brother Kevin Underwood of New Zealand; 7 great grandchildren Remington Williamson, Gannon and Gracelynne Williamson, Hayden Emree and Atlas Williamson, and Oaklynn Braun.
Trevor was predeceased by his parents Walter and Hazel Underwood and his younger brother John.

HARKER HERBER LAMONT HARKER, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away with his family at his side on Sunday, October 23rd, 2022, at the age of 81 years.
Lamont is survived by his wife, Lise, daughter Jackie Harker (Tom Gallant) of Lethbridge, one grandson, Nolan Devine, extended family members, Linda & Arnie Bergen-Henengouwen and their children AJ (Amanda), Karley (Gavin), Todd (Carley), Tim Hamilton, Anne Harker, Sara (Chris), Jerry Harker (Kelly, Adam).
Lamont was predeceased by his father, Theron Harker, his mother, Thora Myers, and his sister, Verda Hamilton.
Born in Cardston, Lamont was in the Navy for 15 years, which offered him the opportunity to travel throughout Canada. He then worked with the R.C.M.P for more than 25 years. He was a compassionate, thoughtful and honourable man who loved his family and animal companions.
A private service will be held, with Interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.

MARY “ADELE” YOUNG 1946 2022 Mrs. Mary “Adele” Young (Atkinson) of Lethbridge, passed away on October 23, 2022 at the age of 76 years.
Adele is the beloved wife of Rob Young of Lethbridge. She was affectionately known to her grandkids as “Fishing Grandma”. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, and was one of our biggest cheerleaders!
Adele is survived by her daughter Carol (Hunter) Heggie; Robs 3 kids Deon (Jody), Shaun (Heather), Kori (Ben); and her Sister Donna (Jack) Reed; along with many nieces and nephews.

BARTEL GORDON BARTEL, loving husband of Bethany Bartel, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Chinook Regional Hospital, at the age of 36 years.

MARKUS, Steve

MARKUS 1938 – 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of STEVE J. MARKUS at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Monday, October 24, 2022 at the age of 84 years.
He was a loving and caring husband to Brenda and they shared 31 happy years together.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Margaret Sr., and sister Margaret
Steve is survived by his brothers-in-law Maylon Thomas and Neil (Edna) Thomas as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Hungary.
Thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the Chinook Regional Hospital Emergency Department and our family physician, Dr. Jonker. A special thank you to Ed and staff at Nordbridge Pharmacy for all their help.
Steve was a farmer all his life. For the last 30 years, the Nikkel family in Coaldale helped him to keep the farm running. Steve was always back and forth to the farm to spend a little time with John Jr. He was the son we never had.
A private Family Service will be held at a later date.
