BAER, Barbara
BARBARA BAER 1951 – 2022 On Saturday, November 5, 2022 Barbara Clare Baer passed away peacefully at the age of 71 years in St. Michael’s Hospital.
She was born on January 21, 1951 to Joan and Sanford Preston in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The family moved to Calgary and then to Cold Lake. Barb completed high school there at Beaver River High and then received a teaching degree from the University of Lethbridge. She started her teaching career in Manyberries, then to Bonnyville and finally in Grande Prairie. It was there she met her husband to be, Rick. They married in 1980. Barb left teaching to start Creative Writes, a business that perfected advertising for small businesses. She evolved that business into Direct Route Communication Services to broaden the scope of advertising, strategies and corporate proposals and edited novels for writers. She finished her career as an instructor at the Business Career College in Grande Prairie. In 2004 they moved to Lethbridge to spend as many years as they could with Rick’s parents, Netta and Fred Baer.
Barb loved the outdoors and especially camping, whether it was in the foothills and mountains of southern Alberta or with family at Pigeon Lake. Barb also loved winter getaways to a cabin in the Crowsnest Pass and snowshoeing at the base of Crowsnest Mountain. She was a gardener and loved to be outside on the deck. She also loved being around family and socializing with friends and especially with “The Gang”. She always prepared a feast for family and friends on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. She would also write poems for others to suit special occasions.
She is survived by her loving husband. Rick, her brother Bob Preston of Sherwood Park, her Brother Stan (Leslie) Preston of Fort Saskatchewan, her sister Janet (Floyd) Johnson of Berwyn, her brother Paul (Michelle) Preston of Sherwood Park, and her brother Dave (Jackie) Preston of Peachland; her niece Sara (Chris) Schroeder of Halifax; her nephews Jim (Amanda) Preston of Fort McMurray, Garret Preston with Elexandra Greaves of Lethbridge, Sean (Chelsey) Preston of Langford, BC, Adam Preston of Sherwood Park, Aaron Preston of Peachland, BC, Joel Preston with Lori-Ann Rowe of Fort Saskatchewan, Matthew Preston with Lynelle Steman of Edmonton and Chris Johnson of Berwyn; great nieces Makaela, Toryn and Britt; great nephews Kai, Lucas and Oak.
Barb loved her niece, nephews and great nieces and nephews and when asked if she had children, she would always say of her and Rick, “No, we’re professional Aunts and Uncles”.
She is predeceased by her parents Joan and Sanford Preston.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge Alberta.

HUGGINS WILLIAM JOHN “JACK” HUGGINS, the beloved husband of Kathryn Huggins, of Lethbridge, passed away at the age of 76, after a valiant effort for life at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022.
Jack was predeceased by his father, William John Huggins Sr., and his mother, Marjorie Rosaline (Farris) Huggins.
Besides his wife Kathryn (nee Schnitzler) Huggins, he is survived by two sons, Mark (Michelle) of Fort Macleod, AB and Matt (Binh) of Lethbridge, two daughters, Tanya (Brett) McAuley of Red Deer, AB and Allison Mullin of Lethbridge, 11 grandchildren, Olivia, Brad, Ben McAuley; Eden, Jack, Anna Huggins; Noelle, Luc Mullin; Nikayla, Shaun, Kelsea Huggins, four sisters, Marjorie (Gene) Hval of Wilcox, SK, Judy Grad of Harris, SK, Wendy Huggins of Harris, Linda (Shawn) Yuke of Regina, SK.
Born in Regina, he was the eldest of five children. As a teenager, he worked as a bowling-pin setter, paper delivery boy, food vendor at Roughrider’s games, groomer of race horses. He was an avid sports fan, athlete & coach. He and Kathy were married on May 20, 1972. Jack loved music, as he played a guitar in several local rock bands. He was a teacher and principal for over 25 years. He was devoted to his family, faith and friends. He had a passion for life and lived each moment to the fullest. It was no problem for him to strike up a conversation with anyone he met and welcomed his children’s friends with open arms. His sense of humor was with him until the very end. He also loved antiques as a retirement career and wrote articles for various antique publications.

In God’s infinite wisdom, JOHN DYKSLAG, beloved husband of the late Hilda Dykslag, passed away very peacefully at the Fairmont Extendicare, surrounded by his family on Monday, November 7, 2022 at the age of 90 years.
Dad is survived by his five adoring children: Marg (Richard), John (Sadie), Leroy (Joann), Wendy (Buzz) and Patty; 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Dad is also survived by his only surviving sibling, Wendy Coutts.
Dad was happiest being surrounded by and helping his children. Dad was a man of great character and faith. He was loved by all. Dad took the role of being the oldest son very seriously, and cared for the extended family that was left behind.
Dad also created lifelong friendships, from volunteering countless hours building Trinity Reformed Church, to having coffee with friends on a regular basis; he was a man who loved to socialize. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
John will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Hilda privately prior to the service.

Coby was a loving mother to Jacqueline (John) Andrade of Taber, Clarence (Melanie) Bos of Taber, Karen Schmidtke of Taber, Kimberley (Nathan) Born of Calgary and Michael (Leanne) Bos of Spruce Grove. She was blessed with nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband John Bos and one sister and two brothers.
Coby was born in Pijnacker, the Netherlands, daughter of the late Frederick and Jacoba Vink. She immigrated to Canada in 1954 at the age of fifteen with her family in the search for new beginnings and settled in Strathroy, Ontario.
Coby began working as a nanny for a family with housekeeping duties and childcare and she also worked in a bakery for a few years. She met John, her husband to be, at a church youth group in 1956 and they married in 1959. For the next twenty one years she stayed home to raise her family of five children.
In 1980, John and Coby along with the three youngest children moved to Taber. She was a hard worker and took on part time jobs in a greenhouse and grading potatoes and onions to help support the family.
Coby was a loving and devoted wife to John for sixty years and spending time with family was very important for her. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as Oma (Oma-ma). She enjoyed playing with them and making them feel special and looked forward to Oma Day every year.
Coby enjoyed volunteering with John at Extendicare and Linden View for many years, often taking her grandchildren with her. Some of her hobbies included pottery, knitting, and weaving, and many of her creations were given to her children and grandchildren as gifts.
Life was not always easy for Coby, however she was a fighter and determined to move forward. Through all the struggles her faith and trust in Christ grew and she learned to depend on Him. Coby loved life and continued to share about God’s faithfulness to others wherever she was.
We are confident that Coby is now with her Savior and reunited with family members that have gone before her.

Alberta Antonetta Crooymans (nee Bouw), beloved wife of the late Tony Crooymans, passed away peacefully in Bow Island on Saturday, November 5,
2022 at the age of 88 years.

She is also survived by four sisters, three brothers, several sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Tony, her parents and two sisters.
Alda was born on November 29, 1933 in Erp, Holland to Johannes and Petronella Bouw. She immigrated to Canada with her entire family in 1955. Alda and Tony were married on June 22, 1957 in Lethbridge.
Together they worked for Bill and Helen Kizema in Warner until their move to Bow Island in the fall of 1960. They rented land until they purchased their own land in 1964. Alda and Tony were blessed with four children, who all farm. She enjoyed sewing, with her children and grandchildren benefitting from her talent. Later in life she sewed comfort blankets to be given to the patients in the local hospital. Alda also enjoyed weaving and wheat weaving, many woven scarfs and wheat weavings were given away. She enjoyed judging at rural fairs and gardening, taking special care of her roses. Alda also enjoyed walking.
After retiring from farming, Alda and Tony built a new home and spent much of their time landscaping the yard. They enjoyed travelling and spent all their time together. Alda and Tony enjoyed dancing. Mom welcomed anyone into her home for a visit, always having soup and sandwiches ready to serve them. She enjoyed having family gatherings, mom loved her family and they loved her in return.
