MCCAUGHERTY, Carla MCCAUGHERTY Carla Glori McCaugherty died peacefully in Calgary on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the age of 57 years. She is survived by her loving and devoted partner, Ed Bourassa, and sisters Dawn and Kristi (Glenn Van Buuren).
Carla was born in Lethbridge and raised on the family farm in the riverbottom west of the city. She attended Coalhurst Elementary School, and Hamilton Jr. High and LCI in Lethbridge. A voracious reader, her interests were wide and varied and while studying philosophy at the University of Lethbridge, she enjoyed working on The Meliorist. She loved all animals but especially horses and cats. For many years she was a member of the Hilltoppers Gymkhana Club in the Bend and competed with her horse Taffy at many shows in southern Alberta and BC. In 1981, she was crowned Alberta High School Rodeo Queen and traveled to Wyoming to compete internationally.
After university she moved to Calgary and at the age of 21 purchased her house, from which she moved only last year. She worked her way up to managing a Whitespot Restaurant before moving to Nova Chemicals, first as a temp and then in the HR department. For many years she was a beauty consultant for Mary Kay skincare, enjoying the professional and personal opportunities the company supported and she continually used and gifted the products. An excellent baker, for many years Christmas also meant the gift of Carla’s wonderful fruit cakes, well doused with liquor.
In 1999, Carla was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Over the years, as MS restricted her freedom and stole from her the ability to walk, write, see and move, she retained her dignity and sense of humour to the end, as she fought the ravages of this disease.
There will be no service as per Carla’s wishes and immediate family will have a private event at a later date to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the MS Society of Canada or the Alberta SPCA.

HULLEY, Betty Ann In loving memory of Hulley, Betty Ann (nee Wheeler) September 29, 1934 – October 17, 2022 Our beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Betty Ann Hulley, passed away suddenly in the arms of her daughter, Maureen, in Penticton BC, the afternoon of Monday October 17, 2022.
Born at Haven Hill Hospital, Penticton BC, she lived her early childhood years in Penticton and Lethbridge Alberta, graduating from Penticton High School in 1952. She worked for Alberta Government Telephone, Peoples Jewellers and Penticton Regional Hospital (front desk reception).
Mom was a private person content in her own company but she always made time for PD James, Maeve Binchy, Sade, Rod Stewart and many others. An avid viewer of the Knowledge Network and NCIS (but only the Mark Harmon NCIS!) she blithely ignored phone calls. When she could be persuaded to leave her cozy home she surprised herself and actually enjoyed family gatherings and outings with her dear friends. Sassy interactions with grandchildren highlighted every get together. Grandson Thomas always said, “Granny’s the best!” Mom was not openly affectionate unless you were her grandchild or great grandchild; they had a direct path to her heart. We, her children and dear friends, had a curvier path but in the end we always came away with a hug and “I love you.”
Mom was meticulous and precise in both speech and appearance. She had a sharp tongue, quick wit and did not suffer fools gladly. She did not consider herself old and often referred to her generation as “old farts.” Patience was definitely not a virtue and woe was you if you were stuck in a lineup with her. More often than naught daughter Maureen’s hissed reminders of, “behave yourself”, were gleefully ignored. But what can I say, that was Mom!
Mom’s one true indulgence was travel beginning in 1954 when she and best friend Lois Sallows travelled to the Island of Oahu for an unforgettable two week vacation. The Hawaiian Islands were mom’s favourite place to travel and over the years she shared this love with her family and friends, making Hawaii a special place for us all. Mom also travelled to New York, Indonesia, China, Japan, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Turkey, Italy and Greece. She saved postcards, ticket stubs, pamphlets and currency from all of her adventures. Travel truly was mom’s passion in life.
Remembered with so much love by her 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Children: Lynn Hulley Calgary AB, Maureen Hulley Penticton BC, Chris Hulley (Shannon) Fort MacLeod AB, Patricia Woodall (Jay) Goodfare AB, Bridgett Taylor (Keith) Calgary AB, Cheryl White Edmonton AB Grandchildren: Brenna (Sean), Garrett; Scott (Crystal), Ross (Kait), Thomas (Kristina); Jacqueline (Joey), Jamie (Brad); Candace (Kevin), Catherine (Dave), Carrie, Coleen; Allisa (Michael), Collin (Kendall); Zachary (Alysha), Nicholas (Desiree) Great Grandchildren: Olivia (John), Liam, Wyatt, Kingston, Everleigh; Mason, Charlotte, Matilda, Connor, Reid; Gracie, Kenzie, Zoey, Nolan; Madison, Mia, Ashley, Macey, Delilah, Kade; Evie and Riley Also missed and remembered by: Sons-in-law, Robert Walls and Richard Lorne White; Janice Walls and dear friends, Judy, Lynda and Sara.
Mom was predeceased by her father; George Harold Wheeler (1905-1964) Wheeler/Byers, Record/Kelliher clans of Peterborough Ontario and her mother, Susan Kregosky (1899-1992) Kregosky/Salansky clans of Lethbridge AB and Pennsylvania USA Former husband, Victor Segrave Hulley (1929-2020) Sons-in-law; Allan Sather (1950-2014) and Timothy Osmund Taylor (1957-2022).
We will take one last trip together, to rest finally in Maui. May you have peace and tranquility in the sunrises, sunsets and gentle winds. We will see you again Mom, somewhere over the rainbow. Held forever in our hearts and memories.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will take place in Penticton BC, spring 2023 and Maui, spring 2024.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Charity of your choice. Mom had a special place in her heart for Penticton Regional Hospital Maternity and Pediatric Wards and BC SPCA

1 Corinthians 15:42-44 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; and it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
