FERENZ, Donald

DONALD GEORGE FERENZ It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald George Ferenz, aged 85, on November 21, 2022 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Pointe Claire, QC. Lovingly known to family as Donnie, Dad, or Pops, he leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 63 years, Gwen (née Russell), daughter Kelly (Brook) of Fredericksburg, VA, and son Greg (Jackie) of Yardley, PA. He was an extremely loving and supportive grandfather of his grandson Dane (Samantha) of El Paso, TX, step-grandson Cory of Long Beach, CA, and step-granddaughter Brittany (Chris) of Lancaster, CA. His great-grandsons Brantley, Jaxon, Isaac, Alex, and Noah were one of his greatest treasures. He was predeceased by his father George, his mother Stella, his brother Eddie, and sister Marie. He will be deeply missed by not only family but a diverse cast of friends and neighbors.
Born in Lethbridge, AB in 1937, he attended St. Basil’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic Schools. Don was well known for his natural sports-related abilities and athleticism. While he had great appreciation for sports, his deep love and passion were for the games of baseball and hockey, and he was a consummate sports buff. Don also enjoyed several years of coaching youth baseball, playing and travelling with the Pointe Claire Oldtimers Hockey, and playing in an old-timer softball league. He took great pride in both his personal and professional lives. Professionally, the title most commonly attributed to him was that of Account Executive, where his work spanned years in the finance profession covering several types of industry. He was a consummate professional, respected by colleagues and clients for his diligence, precision of focus, trustworthiness, loyalty, and highly personable demeanor. Donnie loved to travel and the place that most captivated his heart and soul was Paris, reveling in both its sights and culinary delights. While he enjoyed any opportunity to immerse himself in a wide range of culinary and cultural fare, nothing beat his love of hot dogs. He also had a great penchant for trivia especially sports, geography, and obscure factoids. Opportunities to share stories from his past and trivia tidbits served as solid testament to his great conversational skills and lively personality. Neighbours will fondly remember him as that guy who took great pride in his surroundings and personal property. He had a positive influence on his neighborhoods, often touted as being one very hard working man who was appreciated for all his time and efforts.
Although he suffered the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s, his passing was unexpected. Be it known, though, his years on this Earth were a testament to his courage and strength to battle whatever was placed in his path, be it his health or other life changing events. He was a man of integrity, character, and an extremely strong work ethic. He was emblematic of friendliness and kindness, always willing to forsake himself to help others in need. To those who wish to find ways to honour his memory and commemorate his life, take time to find ways to expand your knowledge, expose yourself to culturally rich and diverse experiences and people, satiate your appetite with worldly gastronomical delights, and have a hot dog!
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, May 13th, 2023 at Voluntas Commemoration, 4695 Boul. Saint-Jean, Dollard des Ormeaux, QC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory may be made to Parkinson Canada (parkinson.ca, parkinsonquebec.ca).

PLUMTREE, Robert

PLUMTREE We are sad to announce the passing of ROBERT PLUMTREE March 9, 1935 to December 8, 2022.
Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Herta Plumtree and his three sons Peter Plumtree (Helen), John Plumtree (Maria), Walter Plumtree (Margaret). Robert has 5 grandchildren (Kayla, Ashley, Jessica, Megan, Nicolas) and 2 great grandchildren (Dallas and Kaleb) and his kitty cat that he rescued, Lucky.
Robert was born in Matheson, Ontario to Walter and Mary Plumtree and was the youngest of four children his siblings were Jerry, Jim, Janet. Robert joined the Canadian Airforce as a mechanic in his youth and worked for 30 years. While in the military, he was able to visit many countries such as East and West Germany, Italy, Holland, Spain, England and many others. When Robert retired from the military, he joined the City of North Bay public works department. Robert moved to Lethbridge, Alberta in 1994 to be closer to his sons and grand children and recently moved Brooks, Alberta.
Robert was an avid motorcyclist and even taught many students through the Canadore College Motorcycle Training Course for years. Robert drove to both Canadian coasts on his motorcycle and down to Nashville as well as many other trips. When he was not driving his bike, you could also find him fishing and camping or chopping wood for the winter fireplace.

KUBOTA, James

KUBOTA, James James Kubota, 91 of Cochrane passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family and friends December 7, 2022.
Jim was born on a Homestead in Milk River District to Takayuki Kubota and Anne (née Seidle), the oldest of five children. The Homestead years south of Raymond were full pioneer conditions. Carried water. No amenities. Coal was hauled from Lethbridge, meals came from the crops and livestock raised on the farm.
Hard work, dedication and commitment were no stranger to Jim’s earlier years. Jim learned production from his Mom when she taught him and his brother how to press and wrap butter at an early age. The resulting pounds of butter would then be bartered after a horse ride to town. Jim’s farming skills learned from his Dad began as soon as he could reach the controls of the Caterpillar Tractor with his young arms. His characteristic powerful shoulders must have started to develop then. All farms have plenty to do along with regular chores, fences to be fixed, fields to be worked. This work ethic was a foundation he carried with him throughout his life. As an early youth the growing family moved to Raymond while continuing to farm the land. Jim was a King Scout, he served a mission in Japan for more than two years. While there he met Uncles, found the Kubota farm outside Hiroshima, hiked mount Fuji, and saw the devastation from the Hiroshima bombing years earlier. His early and lifelong interest in photography blossomed in Japan.
While visiting his mother Anne in Toronto, Jim met his wife to be Linda. James and Linda (Barter) were married in 1959 and settled on the Coaldale farm where they had three children, Tammy, Bradly and Calla. In 1965 they sold everything and moved to Ontario, where a fourth child Scott, was born. Jim worked as a welder, machinist for four years before getting a job at IBM. Jim’s career at IBM culminated in the Toronto Headquarters model shop. There he worked with a highly skilled team that built the unique items assigned them. Master welder, Machinist, Tool and Die, Superb sheet metal worker, and more than capable hydraulic and electrical skills were all used.
Jim was passionate about many things he did. While a Professional Wedding Photographer for 17 years he attended hundreds of weddings. He could arguably out dance most of his offspring. He was a very accomplished windsurfer in the early days of the sport. Jim and his son Brad shared many memories on the water. The artistic designs and musical gifts he shared with his daughters, Tammy and Calla, the wood working was a common ground between him and Scott.
After retiring Jim returned to Alberta, eventually residing in Cochrane. His crafts in multiple mediums, wood, rock and metal reside in homes and businesses throughout the area. Jim and companion Nila, enjoyed dancing, art, golf and drives in the mountains. Jim was loved and admired by all who knew him. Often referred to as the “best neighbor”, the “fence conversations” were many and memorable.
Jim is survived by his brother Richard; children, Tammy (Larry), Brad, Calla (James), Scott (Rena); grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Trina, Brock, Coryl, Derek, Bradly, Carissa, Paige and Connor; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Jim was predeceased by brothers Edward and Ron, sister Edna, niece Marnie, grandsons Kirk and Conner and a great-grandchild Gabriella.
Jim’s gentleness and kind heart provided cherished memories to those who knew him. Happy trails James until we meet again.

RICHARDSON, Ruth

RICHARDSON The family of Ruth Richardson is very sad to announce her passing on December 12, 2022 at Agecare Columbia in Lethbridge at the age of 87. Ruth battled health challenges over the last few years, but age and Dialysis ultimately took their toll.
Ruth Evelyn Richardson (née Wylie) was born October 31, 1935 in the Vulcan hospital to William and Mary Wylie. She was the oldest of six children and sister to five brothers. She attended Twin Coulee and Boyne schools until they closed and then Alston school. In 1945 the family moved into Vulcan where she completed her schooling. When she was young she did a lot of babysitting and house cleaning on Saturdays and worked at Fleming grocery as a clerk one summer. She worked off and on for AGT as an operator from 1952 until 1964 when the switchboard was automated. The following Monday she started a short term job at Mitchell’s Pharmacy that ended up lasting 20 years until she retired in June of 1984.
On March 18th, 1953 she married George Richardson who had caught her eye working at the dealership across the alley from her family home. From 1956 to 1957 they lived in Lethbridge where George managed R&G North Star Service station. After that they moved back to Vulcan where George again worked with his brothers Bill and Lawrence at Richardson and Gould (which had been started in Nanton) until the business was sold in 1976. George continued to work at Vulcan Motor Products and then Gerry Wood’s Chev Olds until 1984 when the dealership was closed. Mom and dad moved to Airdrie where dad was office manager at Airdrie Pontiac Buick and later Village Honda (where he rejoined the Gerry Wood Automotive Group) in Calgary until he retired in 1994, and they then moved back to Vulcan.
Over the years Mom volunteered with a number of local organizations which included the Order of the Royal Purple, Lionettes, Cub Scouts and the United Church Women’s Group.
In 1974 they started spending part of their winters in Mesa, AZ where they made many friends. Ruth continued to go to Mesa for many years after George passed away in 2001. When Ruth’s kidneys failed, she moved to Lethbridge in 2017 to be closer to the Dialysis Unit.
Ruth is survived by her son Bill (Mary Pat), Grandchildren Jennifer
(Tim) Rinehart, Tom (Giselle Conteras), Lauren (Manny) Omo, Great-Grandchildren Alexis & Ethan Rinehart, Landon & Logan Omo, all of Lancaster, CA, son Wes (Deana) of Calgary, brothers Bill (Mary Ann), Tom (Vivian), Ted (Sharlaine) Wylie and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Bill & Mary Wylie, brothers Jerry & Pat Wylie, infant son John and her beloved husband George. Ruth was also predeceased by all of George’s siblings and their spouses.
The family would like to thank all of her friends and extended family members, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Words cannot express our appreciation for all you’ve done for her over the years. A special thanks also goes out to Jennifer Gore & BJ Milman for all their care & support over the years in Lethbridge.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Morley Wong and the staff at Chinook Regional Dialysis Unit, and the staff at Agecare Columbia, all of whom gave Ruth excellent care.

DAVIDSON, Helen Doreen September 7, 1931 – Kindersley, Saskatchewan December 12, 2022 – Cochrane, Alberta Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Helen Davidson, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2022 at the age of 91 years.
Her small family meant everything to her, and she always delighted in keeping informed about their activities.
Helen had a long and distinguished banking career with the CIBC in Saskatchewan. After retirement she and Bob moved to Lethbridge, Alberta to be closer to family and, after Bob’s passing, Mom moved to the condo she loved so much in Village Green. She and her beloved dog, Khaili, spent many happy years there. When her health declined, she relocated to Grande Avenue Village Seniors’ Residence in Cochrane, followed by a move to Hawthorne Supportive Living. Heartfelt thanks to the staff members of both these residences for your kindness and compassion and for the wonderful care you provided to Mom.
She is survived by daughters Paula (Alan) Gerard and Sandra (Brad) Buczulak, grandsons Mark (Brooke) Buczulak and Ryan (Kate) Buczulak, great-granddaughters, Audrey and Temperance and great-grandson Grayson, and three very special people, Paige Millhaem, Deb Hadley and Clare Henninger.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her parents, Tom and Ada Jones; her two sisters, Mary Mahoney and Gwynn Near; and her brother, Warren Jones.

DOREEN PERSINGER 1934 – 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Grace Persinger (nee Arnold) on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the age of 88 years.
She will be forever loved and deeply missed by her devoted husband of 66 years, Jack Persinger; her five daughters, Debbie (Darrell) Campbell of Lethbridge, Tammy (Rob Banville) Persinger of Calgary, Bonnie (Greg) Moulton of Fergus, Ontario, Lois (Sid) Felske of Calgary, and Tracy (Al) McCann of Coaldale; her grandchildren, Ricki (Clint) Archer, Craig (Erin) Campbell, Ethan Campbell, Brett, Blake and Tara Nishikawa, Valerie (Joel) Bernard, Katelyn and Laura Talbot, Cole (Tassia) Felske, Brittney (Nick), Felske and Cody Persinger; her great grandchildren, Julien, Damien and Ireland Archer and Dax Persinger; as well as her twin sister, Eileen Hinecker of Edmonton, her sisters, May Melnychuck of Red Deer and Thelma Brady of Williams Lake, BC and her brother, Clarence Arnold of Leduc.
Doreen was predeceased by her beloved parents, Clayton and Grace Arnold and her brother, Lawrence Arnold, all of Mannville, Alberta.
Doreen and her twin sister, Eileen were born on April 18, 1934 in Mannville Alberta. Doreen was born first, making her the second of six children. They lived on a farm and Mom often talked about the joys of growing up in her happy family – her dad driving the kids to school during the bitterly cold winters using the wagon and horses, helping with farm chores, competing with her twin for top marks in school, her brother Clarence playing tricks on her and her close relationship with her parents and all of her siblings. Mom attended a one room rural school and later graduated from Mannville High School. She completed a secretarial course from the McTavish Business College in Edmonton.
Mom and Dad met while Mom was visiting her cousin in Victoria, BC. They met in August and Dad knew right away that she was a very special woman. They married four months later, on Dec. 29, 1956. They left Victoria shortly afterward as Dad was in the Navy and was posted to Halifax. They lived there for a year and decided to return to Victoria, where they started their family. Debbie and Tammy were born there and shortly after they moved their family to Mannville, where Bonnie, Lois and Tracy were born.
Mom and Dad were partners in life and in business. When they moved to Mannville, they bought the grocery store and worked side by side to run it. Mom was always a busy person, raising 5 young kids and going downstairs to help run the store. After they sold the store, Mom worked as a receptionist/secretary/legal assistant for a lawyer in Mannville for a few years before they moved to Vermilion, where she worked at the Community College. In 1975 they made the move to Lethbridge, where Mom continued to work as a secretary for Alberta Home Mortgage. She also liked to do income taxes for anyone who needed help. After Mom retired from her own career, she went to work alongside Dad again selling condos. They were a great team.
Mom was always an active person. She enjoyed walking, gardening, knitting, reading, scrabble and playing cards with her children, grand children and great grand children. Her most favorite activities of all were making jigsaw puzzles and doing crosswords, both of which she continued to enjoy right up until her passing.
Doreen was a treasured daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mom, grandma and great grandma. She will be loved and missed forever by many. She will live on in our hearts and cherished memories

CLARKE, Linda

LINDA CLARKE 1951 – 2022 Mrs. Linda Carol Clarke of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Curtis Sparvier, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the age of 71 years.
Linda was born January 11, 1951 in Brooks, Alberta to Edward O’Donald and Agnes (O’Donald) Labbé. She grew up in the Lethbridge area where she attended school. Linda was very artistic with greeting card creations, and anyone that received a card from her understood the amount of love poured into them. Her biggest treasure was her family, and no matter what, she always had time for them.
Linda’s battle with brain cancer was short, but she fought it like a true warrior.
Linda is survived by her daughter Tammy (Shane) Olson of Coalhurst; sons Danny (Sheena) Clarke of Coaldale, and Randy (Jennifer) Clarke of Lethbridge; grandchildren Azlyn (Austin) Kaytlyn, Ethan (Abby), Joshua (Kobe), Mya, Rylan and Tylar; sisters Deanna Johnson, Stella (Dennis) Jorgensen; Marlene St. Amand and Debbie (Ken) Kemp; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides her loving husband Curtis, Linda was predeceased by her parents Edward O’Donald and Agnes Labbé; sister Donna Riviere and granddaughter Kennady Clarke.

D’AGNONE, Assunta

ASSUNTA D’AGNONE 1940 – 2022 Our dear mother Assunta D’Agnone of Wrentham, beloved wife of the late Mr. Nick D’Agnone passed away peacefully in her home in Coaldale on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the age of 82 years.
Assunta Parisone was born August 15, 1940 in Civitanova del Sannio Provincio Compobasso. In 1956, Assunta came to Canada and settled in Foremost with her mother, brother and sister to join her father who was working for the CP Rail. Assunta went to school in Foremost, working at the local restaurant after school. She met Nick when they were young in Italy, and after arriving in Canada, they dated for three years, getting married in June of 1959 in Lethbridge. They farmed with Nick’s family until 1967. In 1968, they moved to Conrad where they bought their first section of land, and from there, their family farm grew.
Assunta loved her family very much. She was so proud of all of her children, grandchildren and all of her extended family and loved to talk about each of them. Assunta’s day was brightened by visiting with family either in person or over the phone. She was generous and welcoming and anyone visiting her house over the many years either on the farm or in Coaldale can attest to her chef quality cooking skills and giving nature. She volunteered in a number of ways at the school board in Wrentham, the Lions Club, the CWL, the Soup Kitchen in Lethbridge and at various churches that she attended. Over the years on the farm, she perfected many skills necessary to be a pioneer woman. Assunta was extremely talented and could do anything with her hands. She could bake, sew, butcher, scale a fish and garden among many other things all in a dress and high heels. Assunta’s most endearing quality was how she made you feel about yourself, teaching you to cook gave you confidence and her stories would make you laugh. She will be missed by all who knew her as she had a large impact on each of our lives.
Assunta had faith in God and always reminded us to love each other.
She is survived by her 2 daughters Filomena LaPorte-Packer (Harley) and Maria Demers (Luc); 3 sons John D’Agnone (Sheila), Domenico D’Agnone (Sheila), Jamie D’Agnone (Penny); grandchildren Steven LaPorte (Marcy), Mark LaPorte (Candice), Mitchell D’Agnone (Teri), Bryce D’Agnone, Antonio D’Agnone, Tamara D’Agnone, Julia D’Agnone, Myla Demers, Jordan D’Agnone; 2 sisters Rosina Fiorante (Domenico) Phyllis (Tony) Fiorante; brother Joe Parisone (Rita); sister in law Domenica Parisone (Mike- deceased); and 5 great grandchildren.
Besides her beloved husband Nick D’Agnone, Assunta was predeceased by her parents Domenico and Edvicia and brother Mike Parisone.

LONG, Melvin

MELVIN LONG 1951 – 2022 The family of Mr. Melvin Long of Jefferson, Alberta is sad to announce that he passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on November 29, 2022 at the age of 71. Melvin had been seriously injured after being involved in a single car accident south of Cardston, Alberta on November 24, 2022.
Melvin was born on October 15, 1951 in Cardston, Alberta to Roy and Evelyn (Waldner) Long. He was christened in the Woolford United Church. He lived and farmed in the Jefferson area most of his life. He was in the last group of students to attend the Jefferson School before it closed.
Melvin attended the University in Lethbridge taking courses in math and graduated from the Athabasca University in accounting. He got his pilot’s license and was planning to learn to fly a helicopter. He had an International Driving Permit after receiving a license to drive maximum weight vehicles. He was very involved in the Internet and explored numerous topics as well as having hundreds of friends from all around the world. He volunteered at the Lethbridge Humane Society and was well known as a knife maker.
Melvin had difficulty deciding on a career and was always on the lookout for new adventures. He eventually settled down to farm with his brother Jack. Because he and Jack remained on the farm after the death our father, our mother was able remain living in her home on the farm until she passed away.
During spring and summer Melvin worked on the farm and during the winter he drove taxi in Lethbridge, Alberta until he found a job driving large vehicles to their new owners. This took him all across Canada and through most of the United States. He enjoyed the adventure of seeing interesting places and driving very different vehicles.
When Melvin retired, he wanted to explore more of Canada, so he drove his motor home to P.E.I. camping along the way to P.E.I. and back home. For the past few years, he wintered in his place in Mexico accompanied by his beloved cats, Sophie and Maya.
Melvin was always the goofy uncle and loved for his unique gifts and stories about the places he went and the people he met. His stories about his numerous adventures kept the family laughing and shaking their heads about the choices he made. He was a kind and gentle man who was very frequently overly generous giving money and loans to people he knew. Unfortunately, he was easy to take advantage of and spent many hours running errands and driving around. He was not a confrontational person and found it difficult to ask for repayments or to say no to anyone. He was disappointed and hurt that loans to some people were never repaid and his kindness not being recognized.
He is survived by his sisters Sandra McKay of Lethbridge, Alberta, Jane Cox and her husband Doug of Spokane, Washington as well as his brother Jack Long and his wife Chris. He is also I survived by four nieces, two nephews, two grandnieces and three grand nephews. He leaves behind his two beautiful cats and his totally untrainable dog Lucy.
Melvin was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Evelyn Long and his brother-in-law, Bob McKay.
At Melvin’s request, a formal Funeral Service will not be held. He will be remembered privately by his family and his friends.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be spread on the farm in the Jefferson area. We will miss him and hope that he is enjoying the adventure he is presently on.

SCHULTCHEN, Christopher

CHRISTOPHER FRANZ SCHULTCHEN 1982 – 2022 Our shining son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin has left us. Christopher Franz SCHULTCHEN was born July 10, 1982, in Penticton, British Columbia. He died on November 10, 2022 in Trail, BC.
He was educated at L’Ecole Agnes Davidson, Gilbert Patterson Junior High, and graduated with his bilingual certificate in English and French from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in Lethbridge. After high school, his adventures and work took him to Calgary, Cochrane, Toronto, as well as Nelson and Trail, BC.
His knowledge of collectables and music memorabilia was encyclopedic. A talented musician, he loved to listen, perform, and write music. Finding inspiration in the works of The Who and The Beach Boys, he performed with Lethbridge bands such as James Leroy and NCL.
He loved nature and the outdoors. The highlights of his last few years included hiking and swimming in the interior of British Columbia. Christopher had a wonderful sense of humour, and nothing made him happier than making his parents and siblings laugh at his pranks. Some of our fondest memories are the stories he told and the things he did to make us laugh. We were so proud of him.
Mourning his loss are his mother Jane Harris-Zsovan, his father Martin Schultchen, stepmother Gwena Schultchen, sister Jessica Schultchen (Matt Murray), brother Jason Schultchen (Michaela Thompson), stepsister Daylean Mutch (Harley), and stepbrother Dave Olfert (Serena) as well as his grandparents, Ken and Norma Harris of Bluffton Alberta. He also leaves numerous aunts and uncles as well as many cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Mary and Franz SCHULTCHEN, several aunts and uncles, and his stepfather.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta. with Reverend Gillian Breckenridge, officiating.
A private family Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

VAN DEURZEN, John

JOHN VAN DEURZEN 1933 – 2022 With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear Dad, John Van Deurzen Sr, unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep on Dec 13, in Lethbridge.
Besides the three of us (Joyce, Shirley, and John Jr), Dad is survived by the love of his life, our mom, Myrna, his stepson Barry Ericksen (Cindy) and his two adored grandsons, Nathan and Kyle (Ashley), and his great grandkids, Logan, Hayden and Amelia.
Dad was born on June 22, 1933, in the Netherlands, the oldest of 10. He came to Canada with his parents and 8 of his brothers and sisters, in May 1953. Dad and his parents and oldest siblings worked together on a sugar beet farm in Barnwell. Dad’s trucking career started two years later when he paid five dollars to receive his class one license and a few days later he was on the road all over the US and Canada. Dad proudly held that license until he was 85.
Because of Dad’s love of farming, he was able to convince Mom to leave their new little house in Lethbridge to move to a small farm at Stewart Siding to a house with no proper indoor plumbing and only an outhouse. Dad’s brothers joined him in farming a few years later and in 1967 more land was acquired and we moved to Broxburn. Dad continued trucking and farming until 1972 when the farm was bought at Tyrrell Lake and he was finally able to farm full time. Dad loved that place and the ranch on the ridge that was later added, and he loved being part of the Warner and New Dayton communities.
He was a true entrepreneur and was great at recognizing and building opportunities, later adding the Warner Shell, Lakeside Transport, Chinook Liquid Feeds, and the school bus to the farming business. No one worked harder or with more enthusiasm than Dad.
Dad got us involved in 4-H, first at McNally, and then the Warner Beef Club, where he served on the advisory board. He also enjoyed going to Johnny’s hockey games. Back in those days there wasn’t much money but somehow Mom and Dad scraped together the money to send 11-year-old Johnny to the Bobby and Dennis Hull hockey school in Taber. Dad drove him to it the first day, but the next day he handed Johnny the keys to the truck to drive himself there, unbeknownst to Mom. This was a pattern Dad repeated in life with his grandsons who also learned to drive at a very early age.
Dad finally retired from farming at the age of 82 and has resided in Lethbridge since then.
Dad was compassionate and generous, keen to help people whether it was with a meal, utilities paid, feed for their livestock, a ride to church, or supporting someone in reuniting with their parents
Our sister Shirley provided so much care and comfort to dad throughout his life but especially these last 20 years. Because of her, dad was so well looked after, and we are grateful for that. Dad appreciated her more than words can say. Dad was our biggest cheerleader and supporter, and he taught us a lot. We will miss him very much.
We will have a private family remembrance of Dad.

TAYLOR, Edith

TAYLOR 1938 – 2022 MRS EDITH “EDIE” NANCY TAYLOR, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Ken Taylor, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the age of 84 years.
Edie was survived by her children: Tracy Taylor, Alan (Christy) Taylor, Jim (Cyndil) Taylor, Derek (Lorna) Taylor, and Lana Lorincz and son-in-law Mel Rhodes; and her grandchildren: Braydon and Megan Giesbrecht, Harrison and Ava Taylor, Allison Taylor, Liam and Brennen Taylor, Dustan and Chad Leask, and Stewart and William Rhodes as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter Rhea Rhodes and grandson Andrew Lorincz.
Edie was born July 30, 1938 in Notikewin, Alberta to Tip Lafoy and Alice Lafoy. She worked as an electrologist, as well as at numerous clothing stores in Lethbridge. She loved fashion, and always strived to look her best. She loved to share her gift of music by singing and playing her guitar for friends and family.
Ken and Edie, along with their family, lived in Grand Prairie as well as Fort St. John for many years before moving to Lethbridge. They also enjoyed their vacation home in Yuma, Arizona for the past 26 years.
Ken and Edie were very involved in their church, until the time of Edie’s illness, and she had faith in prayer.
She will be dearly missed as she made such an impact on every life she touched, in true Edie fashion.
A Celebration of Edie’s Life will be held in the spring, when all family and friends can be together.

FRITZLER TRAVIS TRENT FRITZLER passed away in his home in Coaldale on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the age of 30 years.
Travis is the loving son of Calvin Fritzler and Shawna Cyr of Coaldale, AB. He is also survived by his sister Ashley (Jordan), grandparents Richard and Betty Fritzler, uncles Miles Fritzler, Rick Fritzler and Wayne (Cindi) Cyr, and aunt Betty (Rick) Eisler, and numerous cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandparents George and Margaret Cyr.
