CHALMERS, Iris CHALMERS IRIS JACKSON CHALMERS, beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Chalmers, passed away in Cardston, Alberta on December 26th, 2022, one day short of her 93rd birthday.
Iris is survived by 2 daughters, Sherry (Craig-deceased) Godlonton and Penny (Wendel) Webster and 1 son, Rick (Raine) Chalmers, 18 Grandchildren and 49 Great Grandchildren. Besides her husband, Bob, Iris was predeceased by one daughter, Patty Chalmers and one son, Randy Chalmers. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints- Hill Spring Chapel, Hill Spring, Alberta. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 to 10:45am prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Hill Spring Cemetery.

Martin, Lorraine LORRAINE MARTIN 1949 – 2023 Lorraine Martin of Lethbridge passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6th, 2023, at home at the age of 73 years.
She is survived by her daughters Tina Forsyth and Kerri Martin; her granddaughters Sam and Lexi Forsyth and sister Jean (Dave) Bauman. She is predeceased by her parents Alfred Lang and Tina Lang, and her husband Willard Martin.
Born in Altona, Manitoba on November 29, 1949, she moved as a child to Alberta and was raised in Coaldale and Calgary. She married Willard Martin in 1972. They spent the majority of their lives together in Lethbridge, raising their two girls and running their businesses Allied Equipment (sold in 2000) and Westside Storage (sold in 2017).
Her grandchildren, cats and travelling were high among her many passions. She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to laugh.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at CHRIST TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 416- 12 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta with Reverend Olivier Ravelojaona officiating.

PALMER, Erin ERIN LEE PALMER 1970 – 2023 Erin Lee Palmer, of Lethbridge, beloved daughter of Donna Palmer and the late Peter Palmer, passed away at South Health Campus in Calgary, AB on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the age of 52 years.
Erin was born in Lethbridge, AB, on December 3, 1970. She attended school in Lethbridge until graduating from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) in 1988. Erin went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Lethbridge in 1993. As she clarified her career goals, she pursued and completed a Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Western Ontario in 1996. While in graduate school, Erin gained experience working at the National Library of Canada in Ottawa.
After graduation, Erin secured a challenging position working as the Librarian in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Ottawa. She enjoyed the opportunity to see the inner workings of parliament, and was tasked with, among other things, researching questions for Question Period.
Later she worked for the Northwest Territories Geological Survey in Yellowknife, NT. This position gave her the opportunity to become connected with many close friends in Yellowknife as she deeply loved the community environment there.
She was a board member of the Association of Earth Science Editors.
Some of Erin’s favourite activities included golfing, Opimian Wine Club events, gardening, crafting with friends, the game of Scrabble, shopping, theatrical productions, Zumba workouts, aquafit classes and collecting souvenirs from her travels. Erin loved jazz and symphony music.
Erin had a love for travel and enjoyed many memorable vacations while experiencing new places. She traveled with her friends to New York City, Chicago, Napa Valley of California, Disneyland and Disney World. With her parents, Erin enjoyed trips to Hawaii several times over Christmas break.
Erin will be most remembered for her quick sense of humor, and kind, gentle spirit. She was a diligent, conscientious worker in her professional career. As shared by her friends, she was sweet and fun loving and witty, had a bright smile, was always up for new adventures, generous and kind in nature, had a huge thoughtful heart, and was a creative beautiful woman.
Erin is survived by her mother Donna, her uncle Ken Roxburgh (Louella) as well as many cousins and friends.
Erin was predeceased by her father Peter, her brother Cory and her grandmothers, Hettie Blades and Ruby Palmer, cousin David Mitenko and Uncle Nat and Aunt Mary Mitenko.

ICHIKAWA, Akira ICHIKAWA AKIRA ICHIKAWA passed away at home on January 3, 2023 at the age of 84 years. Akira was born Feb. 1, 1938, in Seattle, WA, the third son and fifth child of Tatsuya and Yasashi Ichikawa. He is survived by a son, Andrew (Tahirih Rempel); and a daughter Maya (Marko Hilgersom); and six beloved grandchildren: Yuki, Sam, Asha, Lily, Akeo, and Seiji, all of Lethbridge. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Lorita, whom he married on September 23, 1961, and who died March 28, 2020, and his first-born son, Michael Tatsuya, on Dec. 24, 1976 at the age of 8.
He also is survived by two brothers and their wives Kazuya and Fusako of Placentia, CA; and Shinya and Jayne of Durham, OR; three sisters, Etsuko Osaki (Herb, deceased) of Portland. OR; Noriko (Milnes) Kurashige of Culver City, CA; and Hiroko (Lockwood, deceased) Dennis of Boulder, CO; sister-in-law, Grace (Satoru, deceased) Ichikawa; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
When World War II broke out, his father was detained separately and incarcerated in various American-style concentration camps until reunited with the family at an alien family internment center in Crystal City, TX. Akira was detained with his family from 1942 in American-style concentration camps in Washington, Idaho and Texas, until March, 1946, at which time the family was allowed to return to Seattle.
He was graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle, received his B.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle, then served in the U.S. Army Reserve in California and Georgia. He received his M.A. and Ph.D from the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, and moved to Lethbridge in 1968 to assume a position at the University of Lethbridge where he taught until his retirement in 1998. His favorite activity was being with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed coffee breaks with his close friend, Ron Yoshida.
He loved classical music and jazz, but it was in jazz which he listened to avidly from his teen-age years that he found the greatest joy and comfort. He was especially fond of the music of Count Basie and be-bop artists Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Among his prized possessions was his Canadian citizenship he received in 2007.
A Memorial Service with livestream will be held at THE BUDDHIST TEMPLE OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 2:00pm (MST).

Christian Blade Gammelseter, beloved son of the late Alanna Sharratt-Joblonkay, passed away unexpectedly in Surrey, British Columbia on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the age of 23 years.

WADSWORTH, Delray WADSWORTH Delray Fredrick Wadsworth “Naatsikapanskii” (Double Singer) It is with great sorrow that we, the family of Delray Frederick Wadsworth announce his sudden passing on January 6th, 2023. He leaves behind: His spouse (Suzan Heavyshields), mother (Teresa Wadsworth), his siblings: Gary Eagle Tail Feathers; Verona (Marvin) Tailfeathers; Dale Day Chief; Lucille (Boyce) White Quills; Sonny (Terry) Wadsworth; Toby Wadsworth; Pat (Karen) Eagle Tail Feathers; and Annette (Roger) Young Pine. In his early years he was blessed with two handsome boys, Guyvon and Shamus then later in life he had Julia, and 16 grandchildren – Pacen, Lexi, Derrick, Alex, Natalie, Tanner, Tallon, Dreydon, Dreysus, Marcus, Avianna, Gabriel, Romeo and Aaliyah, and one great grandson, Kylo. Delray was predeceased by his son Dakota, his sister Shelly, his younger brother Myron, his father Melvin, his nephews Travis HWM and Tony ETF, his niece Tara Day Chief and her son Michael EB, his maternal Grandparents Margaret and Walter HM, his paternal Grandparents Frank Scout and Lucy Wadsworth, his great great Grandparents Lilly and Mortimer ETF, his paternal great great Grandparents Willy and Annie Wadsworth, and his great great Grandfather Bobtail Chief.
Delray Fredrick was born August 2, 1964 to Melvin and Teresa Wadsworth. Delray grew up in Bull Horn, spending a lot of time with his grandparents and uncle George. As soon as he could walk, he learned to skate on the pond behind our house. He eventually played with the Golden Chiefs and with the Kimberly Dynamites. He also loved playing football, with the St Mary’s Warrior’s and most of all, steer riding at J & L Stables in Cardston. He even had a shot at competing at the Calgary Stampede but due to the current political climate was unable to do so.
In his sons’ early days growing up on the ranch, Delray would show Shamus and Guy how to saddle up a horse properly, how to herd cattle, how to take care of the ranch, and regulate the property while riding on the homegrown Wadsworth Paints. He learned to ride, as we all did on our pony, Mr. Ed. He also trained Dave and Shirly Healy’s racehorses. Dave and Shirly adored Delray and took him as one of their own. He worked with Lethbridge Basements for a number of years. Delray enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially hosting many barbecues. He enjoyed going to watch Indian Relay races when they would come to one of his favorite watering holes (Bully’s), as well as watching hockey and football. Delray had many friends from all walks of life; Delray had respect and empathy for everyone.
Delray graduated High School from St Mary’s and went on the further his education at Red Crow College, Mount Royal College, then the University of Lethbridge where he obtained a B. A . and a B.Mgt degrees. Due to health issues, Delray spent the last few years enjoying life.
He was a cowboy to the end. “I am not afraid.”
The Wake Service will be held on Wednesday, January 11 at the Tanner Center (260 – 1st St. West), Cardston from 6:00 – 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, South Hill Chapel, Cardston (950 Main Street) on Thursday, January 12 at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
