Bea Johnson

1937 – 2023

Beatrice May Johnson of Black Rock Terrace, Lethbridge, passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the age of 85 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, January 19, 2023 between 7:00 P.M and 8:00 P.M.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Bethel Evangelical Free Church, 504 – 3 Avenue, Vauxhall on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. Burial to follow at the Vauxhall Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.

Most of Bea’s life was spent in Vauxhall where she taught school. Poor health prompted early retirement from a job she was passionate about. If you were so blessed to have been her student, you were not only taught by her, but you were indeed special to her, loved by her and prayed for by her. This past Sunday morning, Bea completed life doing two of her favorite things: attending church and driving her car. Jesus was so important to her and all she did reflected that well. He was truly her reason for living and she loved to share that with everyone she could, especially those at Black Rock Terrace over the last few year. Bea’s was a life well lived for Jesus and now she enjoys Him eternally.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Bea’s name may be made directly to Share Word Global (formerly Gideon’s), PO Box 3619, Guelph, ON, N1H 7A2 (www.sharewordglobal.com).

Arrangements in care of Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber. Telephone: (403) 223-8778.

Marlon was known for his very kind, and gentle soul, and how he showed goodness to all he met. He shared his happiness with others through his passion and talent for playing musical instruments. Marlon’s love for music began at a very young age through going to Camp meetings with his late mom, Geraldine S. Over his life lifetime he dedicated many hours to learning the how to play different musical instruments, and reading sheet music, skills that he acquired through the art of self-teaching. Marlon’s teenage years were spent dedicating his life to sports and music. He attended school on the Blood Reserve; Saipoyi Elementary School, Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School, and then Kainai High School. During his time at KHS, he joined the Foot Ball team and discovered his natural talent for the sport. His enthusiasm and drive for the game gave him immense joy, as he played alongside his brother Matthew, cousins Andy & best friends. Marlon made lifelong companions through his time spent being a KHS Warrior and cherished the connections and kinship he gained. His family supported him at every game, often traveling many hours to watch him play. Marlon was also very accomplished in the Blood Tribe Agricultural Training Initiative, gaining awards and accolades throughout his training in 2016. He worked with the land and farmers in the area surrounding the Blood Tribe. Marlon loved his family and was a dedicated provider. Marlon was known for his willingness and positive demeanor that was expressed in the way he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those around him, expecting nothing in return. His soul was one of a kind, and the light in his heart was clear to anyone that met him. BALL, Johanna (nee Veenenbos)
March 4, 1927 – Gouda, Netherlands
January 10, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Lovingly missed by her family, Johanna Ball passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, after declining health.

Born in Gouda, Netherlands, in 1927, Johanna was rescued in 1945 from a minefield by a young Canadian soldier, Claude “Buster” Ball, who, stationed in Netherlands during and after liberation, took her as his bride. Following her husband who had returned to Canada, Johanna journeyed on her own to our young country. With equal determination, this girl from a cosmopolitan city began a new life and family in Medicine Hat, moving to Lethbridge three years later.

Most of her life, she and Buster enjoyed living in Sherwood Park and their involvement with the Sherwood Park United Church. As an avid photographer and painter, she loved sharing her skills, paintings, and teaching art at the Sherwood Park rec center. She composed hundreds of stories for her Sunday School students and visited area schools as The Puppet Lady. Her love of camping and sailing was met when she and Buster built a truck camper and a 13-foot sailboat in their basement – and managed to get the boat out and onto Alberta lakes!

“Oma” was an influencer, passing on her love of the visual arts to her children, her five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Johanna was predeceased by her husband Claude Joseph “Buster” Ball, her grandson Travis Joseph Ball, parents Johanna and Hendrikus; and brother Theo Veenenbos. She is survived by her son Ron (Beverly) and daughter Carla-Joan Fahlman (Cameron). She dearly loved her grandchildren Amanda Jensen (Dylan), Christopher Fahlman (Amelia), Tyler Ball (Lisa), Matthew Ball (Lynn), and Renee Kohler (Peter). Her spirit lives on through her great-grandchildren, Alex Fahlman, Jackson and Ethan Jensen, Addison and Jonas Ball, Ruby and Leo Kohler, and Carter and Maisie Ball.

Memorial Service and a Celebration of Johanna’s Life will be announced at a later date and will be held at the Sherwood Park United Church.

In living memory of Johanna Ball, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
