PITCHER, Donna

PITCHER DONNA DELPHINE (DIEBERT) PITCHER, loving wife of the late Kent Pitcher, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Cardston, Alberta on February 16, 2023 at the age of 82.
Donna was born in Cardston, October 20, 1940, the first daughter of Ed and Alvina (Schlaht) Diebert. She grew up on a farm in the Jefferson area. Donna was the oldest of six girls, the six D’s, Della, Dixie, Darlene, Debbie and Dorsie. To this day, her sisters are her closest friends and biggest supporters. Donna grew up being her dad’s son and learned many of the farm operations from him, which came in handy when she and Kent took up farming. She met Kent in 1958, and while he was on his mission, Donna attended school where she received her teaching degree. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 2, 1961, and she married Kent on May 4, 1963, in the Cardston Alberta Temple.Donna taught school for a few years until her second child was born and from then on, she stayed home to take care of her children. In 1977, Kent and Donna started their farming career with the creation of Amber Acres Livestock Ltd.
Donna loved to serve her neighbors, friends, and family. She also relished every opportunity to serve in the Church of Jesus Christ, in whatever position was asked of her. She and Kent also served two missions. Their first was to Ireland and in 2019 they served a summer at the Cove Fort Historic Site, which was a treasured memory for them both. They made many great friends and felt like it was their first taste of what Zion really could be like. In 2021 Donna’s sweetheart and eternal companion, Kent passed away suddenly on February 21st. She knew that in order to handle the intense grief she had to keep busy. She poured her soul into serving her neighbors, researching her family history, making quilts for each of her grandchildren and doing temple work. The day she passed away she spent the morning in the temple attending an endowment session and performing family sealings. She was so happy.
Donna’s pride and joy were her six children. Four boys and two girls. Gregg (Donna), Tim (Beth), Shawn (Patty), Dan (Jen), Angie (John) Bennett and Tiffany (Mike) Spencer. Her jewels were her 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Donna was predeceased by two sweet great-granddaughters, Merida and Eliza. They lived in Hillcrest, and Cardston Alberta before moving to Glenwood in 1951. Rose lived there until September 2021 when she relocated to the Raymond Riverview Lodge. She loved living there, so many new friends and activities. She was still driving her car and loved her evening card games. Rose was always a hard worker: as a young girl; a waitress; raising kids without indoor plumbing, growing huge gardens, babysitting; clerking at Van Dan’s store in Glenwood, Waterton Gift Shop, Calgary Woolco; farming alongside with her husband (raising sheep and cattle too!); finally working at the Glenwood Cheese Factory. Starting in 1975 Rose spent 24 years organizing, purchasing, and cooking food for hundreds of hunters for the NWT Outfitters Limited. She was a great cook and there were never any complaints. Rose had a way of making everyone feel at home no matter what the circumstances. She was young at heart, a loyal and supportive wife, mother, and friend. Kind, generous, compassionate, and understanding. She was loved by all who met her.
In her early 30’s Rose joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her faith in Heavenly Father became a powerful influence in her life. She served in many capacities and was a devout member until the end.
As a young woman she loved to play softball. She also loved gameshows, word searches, reading, playing Rook, making people laugh with her special machine, SHOP until everyone drops, and cheering on her favorite teams the Flames and the Mariners which kept her busy. She loved animals especially kittycats. Most of all she loved her family and extended family and was devoted to all. Rose had a special spirit that touched many lives. Through all the pain she suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis and other afflictions she never complained! She always had a smile or a giggle, and a positive attitude. What an example she set for the rest of us.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Darrell. Parents Luigi and Maria Albizzati, infant brother Allan, brothers in law – Edward Lowry, John Sinnott, Ken Kettlewell, and Murray Bullock.
