LENCUCHA, Wilfred WILFRED LENCUCHA 1926 – 2023 Wilfred Stephen Lencucha passed peacefully at the age of 96, where he was greatly cared for by the paramedics, the doctors and staff at LRH and through his last years by Doctors Leam, Weaver and deWalle. Thank you so much. You are appreciated.
Dad was born and raised in Blairmore and was the youngest of six children. He loved the outdoors and, as his house was located at the foot of Turtle Mountain, climbed it on many occasions, breaking the record of his day, climbing it in 57 minutes. He excelled at every sport available to him in the Pass and his team won provincials in hockey. He worked many jobs in the Pass; helping build the coal tipple, digging graves at the cemetery in Blairmore, a projectionist at the movie theatre and hauling timbers to the mine – anything to earn money to further his education. Using these funds, he transferred his studies in engineering to complete a B.Ed. and M.Ed. in the Faculties of Education at U of A and UBC and later worked toward a Ph.D., demonstrating his lifelong passion to further the quality of children’s education.
Dad was a compassionate, intellectual man who had a long career in education. Through the years, dad first taught in Consort and then became the youngest principal in Alberta at the then new Stirling School. He took the superintendency of County of Warner and later Pincher Creek Separate, and Holy Spirit Separate School Divisions and acted as a Math Consultant for the province of Alberta. He deeply cared about the education of students and was highly regarded by them.
Dad was a kind and gentle father with a great sense of humour and will be greatly missed by his loving children: Mark (Diane), Deborah (Maurice), Craig (Lesley), Heather (Lane), his grandchildren and their spouses (Jenna and Dave, Cole and Sarah, Meghan, Morgan and Brett, Amanda and Jeff, James and Kimi, Chris and Kanu), great-grandchildren (Liam, Joel, Etta, Emiko, Reiko, Coen, Remington, Bowie, Sawyer, Maya, Lennon) as well as sister-in-laws (Rita, Simone, Betty Jane) and brother-in-law (Joe) and so many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents (Joseph and Cecilia), his wife (Terri), grandson (Cody), all his siblings (Henry, Aloyes, Joe, Helen, Freddie) and their spouses (Helen, Cecile, Ricca, Elmo, Lilian) as well as Terri’s siblings (Jean, Alice, Cecile, Delores, Babb, George, Charlie) and sisters and brother-in-laws (Harry, Gerry, Benton, Cecile, Amerigo).
We wish to acknowledge two special friends (Daisy Moshurchak and Wayne Bourne) who continued to visit and cheer dad up in the later, more difficult times. Our deep appreciation to the staff and residents, at Adaptacare (Sharon, Pinky, Loretta, Rachel, Allan, Akhil, Joee – you did so much for dad!) and Martha’s House, who brightened dad’s final years. We appreciate your hard work and cheerful caring! Thank you to Father Derek for your visits in the past few months. Dad was so excited to meet someone who was born in Blairmore!
Dad often spoke of the Crowsnest Pass with deep fondness and of his family in Slovakia whom he had always hoped to meet. We love you lots, dad! You ran the good race.

GRIGOR, Orville Orville Grigor
1932 – 2023
Orville Crosbie Grigor, beloved husband of Elise Marie Grigor (née Shields), passed away in Cardston on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the age of 90 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, April 28, 2023 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, April 29, 2023 between 12:00 P.M. and 12:40 P.M.

Orville is survived by his wife Marie; sons Todd Grigor of Raceland, Louisiana, Roger (Tamara) Grigor of Okotoks, Derek (Debra) Grigor of Calgary and Jason Grigor of Dallas, Texas along with his seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Orville was born to James Crosbie and Lyla Rose Grigor (née Henderson), in the home of his grandparents Frank and Addie Mabel Henderson, on November 9, 1932 in Barnwell.
He married Elise Marie Shields on April 16, 1960 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They had just celebrated their sixty third wedding anniversary at the time of his passing.
Orville and Marie were both school teachers and taught for the Edmonton Public School Board. Orville taught Elementary School while Marie taught high school. Orville enjoyed his years as a teacher and loved working with his students.
Orville and Marie retired from teaching and proceeded to serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they served missions to Hanoi, Vietnam and two missions to South Africa, where Orville previously served as a young man. He loved the South African people and the many friends he made while serving there. He renewed many friendships made over the years with each mission to South Africa.
Orville and Marie were getting ready to serve a fourth mission, when a call was extended to serve as the Patriarch for the Taber, Alberta, Stake.
Orville loved music, loved to sing and play the piano. With little formal training he could sit at the piano and play music by ear, which was a talent many admired in him. People loved to sit and hear him play.
Orville was beloved by all who knew him. He loved to make everyone feel that they were important. He was a true and loyal husband, father, grandfather, uncle, relative and friend. Orville had a great love for his family, and was always there for them. No distance was ever too great to get in his way to celebrate their accomplishments and any needs they had.
He loved the mountains in the Columbia River Valley, playing Rook and any other game, bringing to life his competitiveness and fun-filled nature. Above all, Orville was a passionate and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. Always blessing, teaching, serving and enriching the lives of all, through His teachings on three continents. Until we meet again Patriarch! God be with you ’til we meet again.

PORTER, Karma KARMA PORTER 1929 – 2023 Karma Anita (King) Porter was born in Raymond, Alberta on August 8, 1929 and passed away in St. Michael’s Palliative Care in Lethbridge, Alberta, on April 24, 2023, at the age of 93.
She was raised in Raymond and Del Bonita and in her teen years moved to Cardston to work. There she met Larry Porter on a blind date and they were married July 27, 1949 in Pincher Creek. She and Larry lived in many different towns in Saskatchewan and northern Alberta before finally settling in Pincher Creek in 1958.
Karma was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was the last original member of the beginnings of the Church in Pincher Creek. She served in many capacities, always happy to be of service to those around her. She loved her family deeply and was a model of the perfect mother, never too busy to sacrifice for them. She was an excellent cook and sewed, quilted, knitted, crocheted, tatted, embroidered, smocked, and left many beautiful items for her family to remember her by. She was an extremely hard worker, still doing yard work and shovelling snow into her 90’s.
Karma was a woman for whom the word mother could have been invented. She was so loyal and never passed on anything that was said to her in confidence. She was known to her friends as the ‘Human Clam’.
Karma loved to learn and took numerous classes in sewing, calligraphy and cake decorating. She even went back to finish high school in her forties. Karma loved her Chihuahuas, Chico and Mitsy, and they became her ears as her hearing declined and they were also great companions in the seventeen years she spent as a widow. Her daughter, Cindy, lived next door and she and her family faithfully cared for our mother all those years.
Karma is survived by her children: Maurene (Tom) Wilson of Lethbridge, George (Launa) Porter of Glenwood and Cindy (Bob) Bennett of Pincher Creek, 12 Grandchildren and 23 Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Mark (Pat) Allen, Barbara (Joe) Juhasz, Merle Still, Connie (Keith) Hancock, Carole King, Wayne (Anita) King, and sister-in-law Cheryl Nelson.
Karma was predeceased by her husband, John Lawrence (Larry) Porter, parents Venice Nelson and Harold King, step-fathers Osmond Allen and Robert Nelson, brothers Anthoney Allen and Marvin Nelson.
Karma’s family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to all the staff of St. Michael’s Palliative Care for the watchful and loving care they extended to our dear mother. They were her angels. Also many thanks to Dr. John Rottger and Dr. Bev Burton of the Pincher Creek Hospital.
The Funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1240 Wentworth Avenue, Pincher Creek, Alberta, with Bishop Roy Stoddard officiating. Interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Pincher Creek.

ROWE, Keaton ROWE It’s with great sadness that the family of Keaton James Rowe announce his passing on April 21, 2023 at the age of 30.
Keaton was born January 18th, 1993 in Lethbridge Alberta. With his life of the party attitude and big bear hugs you always knew when he had entered a room. His passion to nature led him to become a landscaper where he spent countless summers getting his hands dirty and many winter’s shovelling snow. Keaton will be remembered for his deep heart that held the love for his close friends, animals, hockey, music and ice cream.
Keaton is survived by his loving parents Leland (Dina) Rowe and Sherry (Don) Clarke; Brothers Taylor (Caitlin) Rowe, Mason Clarke and Sister Kendall Rowe; Grandmothers Linda Mihalicz and Beverley Erlendson as well as countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Harold and Audrey Rowe, Stanley Soper, Leroy Erlendson along with many others.
