SCHIEBOUT, Joan

SCHIEBOUT It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mom & Oma, Joan Adella Schiebout on May 2, 2023. Joan was the oldest of 4 children born to Joseph Mogielka and Beatrice Sweet on September 20, 1938 in Fernie, B.C. She went to hair dressing school in Lethbridge and met the love of her life, Piet, over a flat tire in Kipp. They were married in Monarch on her 20th birthday in 1958. Joan and Piet were blessed with 2 children Patricia (Larry) and Joel (Sherri).
In 1966, they moved from Michel B.C. to Pincher Creek and resided there for many years before moving to Lethbridge and then to Claresholm. Besides hairdressing, she was the head cashier at the Waterton pool, helped with census taking, worked for Homecare, and was also a guard at the Pincher Creek RCMP detachment.
She enjoyed canning, sewing, needle pointing, gardening, playing cards, especially bridge, crib and canasta. She loved writing letters and was thrilled when she received a hand written note from her grandchildren. She did genealogy in the 1970’s when Joel asked where his family came from. Hours of phoning, writing letters and compiling all the information and pictures into booklets were spent. We are so grateful for her hard work.
Joan was a wonderful Oma to Ryan, Shayla, Carbin, and Hanna. Time spent with Oma and Opa meant going for swim lessons, and learning card games.
Along with Joan’s parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Donald and Holly and her husband Piet of 63 years.
We rejoice knowing they’re with each other again.
We miss you mom.
