OSEEN, Terry TERRY OSEEN 1960 – 2024 Terry Gail Oseen of Lethbridge, beloved daughter of Shirley Oseen and mother of Jillian Shearer and Jonathan King passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2024, at the age of 64 years.
Terry was born on August 24, 1959, in Lethbridge, Alberta to Roy and Shirley Oseen and was the oldest of three children. Terry and her siblings Lana and Jay were raised on the Oseen family farm in the Sundial District of Turin.
She attended Turin School for Kindergarten and then went to Picture Butte for junior high and high school graduating in 1977. Terry had a great upbringing on the farm with her siblings, cousins, and her many friends, tobogganing in the coulees, ripping around on dirt bikes, swimming in the river, dressing up the farm cats, and getting into general shenanigans with her best friends Michelle Bailey and Myron Machacek. She participated in 4H showing her calf and competed in the coveted Grey Cup Queen contest when she was 16.
After high school Terry went on to Mount Royal College studying interior design, and at that time she met Kyle King who she married in 1986. They had two children, Jillian and Jonathan who they raised in Canyon Meadows, Calgary while she worked as a real estate administrative assistant for Royal Lepage. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and planting flowers, and loved going on camping trips with Michelle’s family and their kids Megan and Matthew. Terry and Kyle would take the kids to the Okanagan every summer picking peaches, playing tennis and enjoying the beach. She was a devoted mother to Jillian and Jonathan growing up, taking part in Jillian’s dance, Jonathan’s soccer and hockey, and she would go all out for birthdays and holidays, baking themed birthday cakes, sewing fun Halloween costumes, and planning elaborate scavenger hunts for Valentines Day and Easter.
Later in life Terry married a US citizen and shared her time between the US and Canada, loving the warm weather of Arizona. When she was back in Canada, she would spend time with her mother Shirley caring for her and having fun visits with her grandson Bill who she adored and spoiled with gifts. The family remembers having the best Christmas ever this year where the whole family played games, watched Bill perform and play instruments and open all of his presents from his Grandma Terry.
Terry was loved by everyone who knew her. She was the life of the party and lit up any room she was in. Her departure comes as a great shock, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide-network of community. Terry is survived by her mother Shirley Oseen; her daughter Jillian Shearer (Cody) and grandson Bill; her son Jonathan King (Jenny Lebbert); her sister Lana Oseen (Chris Gray-Wheeler); her brother Jay Oseen; her nieces Caitlin and Hannah; and her nephew Liam.
She was predeceased by her father Roy Oseen.
A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the ITALIAN CANADIAN CULTURAL CENTRE, 1511 St Edward Blvd N, Lethbridge.
The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks in lieu of flowers that you make contributions to the Lethbridge and District Humane Society as Terry had an immense love of animals. Martin was born in Terneuzen, The Netherlands on January 30, 1956. He moved to Canada with his family in 1968. The family moved to Chilliwack, B.C. where he later met his wife Marian, who he married in June 1976. In 1982 they moved to Southern Alberta with their three oldest children. After several moves, they settled on a small acreage in Fort Macleod where they made many memories together as a family of nine children. In 2007 they moved to a bigger acreage just south of Fort Macleod where Dad raised many calves. He loved the work and the people he worked together with in the business. In 2021 Dad retired from his farm and moved to a smaller acreage near Granum. He missed the calves and soon had a few to raise again. He sold the last calves when the Lord laid on his heart that he had no more earthly needs or desires.
Dad was an example to all of us and lived by what we read in Mark 12:30,31. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” By the grace of God, Dad loved God above all and he showed love and compassion without judgment to many in his family, church, and broad community circles. To God be the honour.
