NO RUNNER, Della

DELLA NO RUNNER “Sii pii sai pii” (Charges at Night) 1948 – 2024 Sii pii sai pii / Della No Runner was called home to be reunited with family on July 1, 2024, after succumbing to a short illness she so valiantly fought. She leaves behind her beloved son Harley, her grandsons Urijah and Juda, and her family of nieces and nephews. Sii pii sai pii will forever be remembered for her kind, gentle nature, and her quick laugh; Della was reserved, yet so caring.
Sii pii sai pii was born on January 26, 1948, to Bob No Runner and Helen (Oka). She was the last child of six older siblings: Lawrence (Marina), Donald, Nancy, Philomena (Gilbert), Dorothy (Dominic) and Frances. Della was the last surviving member of her family. She was given her name Sii pii sai pii / Charges at Night by her Uncle Mike Oka, WWII veteran. She grew up on the Blood Reserve in the community of Old Agency. She was raised in a loving tight-knit family rich in tradition. Her young days were spent riding horses and getting into mischief with friends Gloria, Bella, Catherine, Fanny and Martina.
Della attended St. Paul’s Residential School then later attended Hamilton and LCI in Lethbridge. She went for training as a Nurse in Edmonton but was unable to complete as she chose to return home to help care for her ailing mother. She then began driving a school bus in her young years and continued for over 40 years until her retirement.
Sii pii sai pii was an extremely generous auntie, she spoiled her nieces and nephews as they would eagerly await her pay days when she would always buy them candy, toys and clothing. Della met the love of her life, Horace Red Crow in 1975, and together they shared over 20 years of devotion and love until he passed away in 1996. Della and Horace were gifted with their son Harley Russell in 1985. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her boys; her last words were of them. She spent her last year’s residing with her nephew Clayton with whom she had a very close bond. Sii pii sai pii has left a void in our lives as she was the last link to that generation that is gone now. She was our second mother from the time we were children, she loved us all. She was the gentlest kindest auntie we all knew.
Sii pii sai pii is survived by her nephews Tom (Amanda), Delvin (Roni), Calvin (Paula), and Clayton (Sandra); her nieces Jennifer, Charlotte, Tiny, Cindy, Delphine, Sherry (Shane), Cheryl (Julius), Maryanne and Sandra (Chris).
