KLAUS,ELEANORPAULINE(NEEFRITZL KLAUS, Eleanor Pauline (nee Fritzler) JUNE 23, 1936 – JULY 25, 2024 Eleanor Pauline Klaus (nee Fritzler) of Didsbury, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Gus Klaus, passed away on July 25 at the age of 88.
Eleanor was born on June 23, 1936 in Vulcan, Alberta. The third of five children to Jacob and Pauline Fritzler, Eleanor spent childhood on the family farm near Champion, Alberta. After attending Harmony and Champion schools, Eleanor moved to Calgary to check out city life. Eleanor sang alto in various church ensembles, played piano and vibraharp, loving music so much that she and her sister Lorraine cut several LPs at a recording studio. While in Calgary, Eleanor began a career with Calgary Power as an accounting and payroll clerk. It was during this time, Eleanor caught the attention of Gus to then marry on November 11, 1955, spending 65 years as husband and wife. Being called back to farm life, Eleanor and Gus purchased a farm near Park Lake in 1962. In addition to being Gus’ farming partner, Eleanor worked over twenty-five years at the Credit Bureau (Equifax) in Lethbridge as a credit and collections clerk. Looking to leave irrigation country, in 1986 Eleanor and Gus moved their farming operations to Didsbury. Eleanor then worked for the Royal Bank in Didsbury, and then in Olds until 1996.
Eleanor was incredibly organized and energetic – growing huge vegetable gardens and beautiful flower gardens. She was an amazing cook and baker extraordinaire – pies, butterhorns, krebble, desserts, and most notably Christmas cookies. She and Gus loved to travel when they had time, often enjoying vacationing with her sister Donna and brother-in-law, Lorenz. Eleanor was also an avid hockey fan (Oilers), but moreso she was a faithful and loving Christian, wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend.
Having now left this earth to be with her heavenly father and those loved ones who precede her, Eleanor is survived by her two children: Karen (Darrell) Hitchings of Edmonton and son, Kevin of Didsbury; her two treasured granddaughters, Diane and Hailey; as well as her siblings Emil (Eileen), Lorraine, Marvin (Marlene) and Donna (Lorenz), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, etc…
Eleanor had a quiet soul, with a steadfast faith translating to a life of commitment to her family and God. Eleanor lived life to the fullest and will be missed dearly by her loved ones who are forever grateful for her time on this earth.
An outdoor memorial tribute service was held at Westerdale Cemetery, Olds, Ab on Tuesday, July 30. If desired, memorial donations in Eleanor’s honor may be made to Samaritan’s Purse Canada http://www.samaritanspurse.ca. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. COATES, David COATES, David Gordon December 29, 1954 Montreal, Quebec July 30, 2024 Calgary, Alberta With sadness and regret the family and close friends of David Coates announces his very peaceful passing, at Foothills Medical Centre (ICU), on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. He is deeply missed. David was born in Montreal, Quebec on December 29, 1954, to Gordon and Lois Coates. With their older son Fred, the family moved to Calgary in the early 50’s where they settled in for many years. His sister Margie arrived in 1959. In 1965, his parents purchased a property just south of Bragg Creek and the family spent many happy years there. He was predeceased by his mother, Lois in 1995 and by his father, Gordon in April 2024. He is survived by his brother, Fred; his sister, Margaret; nieces, Emily (Jeff), Sarah (Shaun), Gabrielle; and nephew, Ethan. As a younger man he spent many years working as a woodworker, cabinet maker and general project coordinator on many renovation projects. Eventually he pivoted to a new career as an IT expert and, until very recently, continued to provide IT services to clients in both the Calgary area as well as southern Alberta, based out of his farm close to Milk River, Alberta. He once said he did most of his best thinking on the farm, sitting on a bench near the shop, looking out at the Sweet Grass Hills. David was practical, precise and hard working. He was also known for many other characteristics including his quick and winning smile. He enjoyed many activities including long trail rides into the hills and beyond. He liked to laugh, loved music, enjoyed his friends, was quick to lend a hand to others and always kept busy tinkering. His family and friends would like to thank the team of health care workers at the ICU of Foothills Medical Centre who treated David with skill, kindness, compassion and peace at his passing. As per his wishes, a very simple Celebration of David’s Life will take place later in the fall. Details will follow through friends and family.

Barring any technical difficulties, the livestream will begin at 11:00 A.M.
Louie was welcomed by John and Dorothy Tams in Taber on May 10, 1962. The third of nine children, he was a kind and generous big brother to six and actually not a pesky little brother to two. He spent those good old days biking around Taber and learning to fish at the ‘old Trout Pond’ with marshmallows and canned corn. Lou was an amazing helper to his mother every summer he was in charge of jig sawing into one vehicle luggage for eleven PLUS boxes of canning jars for the annual trek to grandparents in British Columbia, to visit and can fruit leaving just enough space for the family.
Lou met the love of his life during high school at W.R. Myers. Already an independent thinker, he chose to pursue Sharon Bourassa instead of further education. They married Jan. 26, 1980 and set up home in an apartment above Macs. (His younger siblings thought that the best life ever, as you could just go downstairs for a slurpee anytime you wanted!) He and Sher grew up together, making life and homes, growing a family, smiling and laughing and playing games together and facing many of life’s challenges and storms hand in hand. If Lou could write this, he would thank his Sharon for quietly standing behind him these forty four years with strength, patience, grace and a love bar none.
Lou’s life was filled with so many joys the most precious being his son Chris (Emalea) and children Dayton, Adian and Ryley (Taylor), son Brandon (Lauren) and children Haven, Ryder, Parker and Wynter, daughter Amanda (Brandon) and children Blair and Kali, Kashtyn and Kylan, and son Matthew. He spent countless hours pursuing their hobbies and passions, especially enjoying fishing and fun with them in the cabin years. If Lou could write this, he would tell them how immensely proud of them he was and how much he loved them.
Lou spent many years in the family business, working with determination from sweeper to partsman to General Manager. Along the way, Lou loved fishing, building things, cards and making a home, yard or cabin that was clean, orderly and welcoming to all. He was kind and generous to many. He had a heart for people, Taber, family and God often the first to volunteer or lend a hand, serving as a town councillor, many roles in his church, showing up for family and friends in so many ways. He always made time to talk with and care about anyone, about their challenges or joys. He could talk with any, convince most, and usually would be the manager of it all before you knew it. His laugh still rings in the ears of many.
Although Lou lived with many struggles through the years, he kept these words from Psalm 121 close to his heart: “I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. The LORD will keep you from all harm he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” We are thankful that the Lord’s grace has led him home, totally free from all earthly struggles.
Louie was predeceased by his parents-in-law Henry and Betty Bourassa. Besides his wife and family and parents, he is survived by his siblings Mickey (Jake) Van Seters, Harvey (Angela), Gord (Ina), Mike (Corinna), Rick (Tasha), Sid (Marilyn), Jessica (Kent) Van Bostelen, and Rob (Catherine). He is also survived by his siblings-in-law Gay (Ken) Jensen and Kim Bourassa. There are also so many nieces and nephews who loved and mourn Uncle Lou but we’d need a whole extra column.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Louie’s name may be made directly to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements in care of Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber. Telephone: (403) 223-8778.
