OLIVER, Howard OLIVER Howard Gordon Oliver returned to Heaven on October 27th, 2024 at the age of 90, to be reunited with his dear wife Maire and Heavenly Father. He was very loved, admired, and highly respected by his family and friends.
Gordon was born on September 13th, 1934 to Howard Oliver and Agnes Salmon Oliver in Calgary, Alberta. His family moved to Cardston, Alberta when he was around 5 years old where he grew up tending many animals that he loved and cared for on their farm. He had a very happy childhood with 5 brothers and 1 sister and was able to recall many stories to his children and grandchildren.
After graduating from Cardston High School, Gordon attended BYU until he served his mission in the Helsinki Finland Mission. Gordon was a very faithful and successful missionary and excelled at speaking the difficult Finnish language. It was while he was serving in the mission office that he met a beautiful Finnish sister missionary named Maire. Although he mostly annoyed her at first, they both must have felt something because after they had both completed their missions Gordon called and proposed to her over the phone from Canada, which started the greatest love story of all time!
Gordon and Maire have 2 daughters and 3 sons. He found so much joy and happiness with his family. Gordon served the Lord his whole life and had a strong unwavering testimony of the gospel. He was a great example of perfect faith in God. His family meant everything to him, and he was a righteous and loving father.
Gordon was an exceptional entrepreneur. He bought a health food store at the age of 19 and built Oliver Health Foods to be a very well-loved local business. He was a respected professor at the College and University and managed successful oil companies.
Gordon was smart as a whip and never forgot a single thing. He loved to tell stories and sing all sorts of funny songs that his grandchildren now sing to their children. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found so much joy in watching them grow and play. He loved sports and was a dedicated BYU football fan. He loved chocolate and ice cream but mostly he loved Maire. What a beautiful reunion they must be having.
Gordon is preceded in death by his wife Maire, his mother and father, and brothers Brian and Kent. He leaves behind a great posterity of 5 children, 25 grandchildren, and 54 great-grandchildren.
Gordon (Diann) Oliver (6 children and 19 grandchildren)
Deanne (Mitch) Robison (3 children and 10 grandchildren)
Mark (Natalie) Oliver (4 children and 4 grandchildren)
Karen (Bob) Kolibar (5 children and 10 grandchildren)
Glen (Onna) Oliver (7 children and 11 grandchildren)
He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family. We will all be forever grateful for the positive impact he had on our lives. He will be greatly missed!
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday November 2, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, FORESTRY AVE CHAPEL, 4105 Forestry Ave S, Lethbridge, AB.
