PENTON, Marvin PENTON April 27, 1932 – November 4, 2024 PENTON; Dr. Marvin James ‘Jim’ – Peacefully, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Brantford General Hospital, with his wife, Beth and granddaughter, Rea by his side, passed from this life on November 4, 2024. Jim was in his 93rd year. He was preceded in death by his parents, Levis Bosworth Penton and Ida Emily Penton, his brother, Edwin, his late wife, Marilyn and infant son, Philip André. He is survived by his wife, Beth, his children, David, John (Shona) and Anne (Bob) and foster daughter Linda (Willie). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Born in Saskatchewan, Jim lived an extraordinary life as a professor of history and religious studies. Jim was the only surviving member of the original Department of History at the University of Lethbridge. Fluent in Spanish, he first taught in Puerto Rico, followed by universities in the states of Upper Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa, as well as in Calgary. Jim was an amazing man and an example of Christian living, always an advocate for the downtrodden and abused. He and his first wife, Marilyn, took a number of people into their home when there was someone in crisis who needed their nurturing, be it family or stranger.
Friends will be welcomed at the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, Paris, Ontario on Friday, November 15 from 7 – 9 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 8 Burwell St, Paris, Ontario on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. Jim’s service will be live streamed starting at 10:50 am. Cremation has already taken place as per Jim’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations to St James Anglican Church, Paris would be appreciated by the family.

WALTER, Joseph JOSEPH WALTER 1946 – 2024 It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear, kind Joe Fetter, 78, of Lomond Colony. Joe passed away due to complications of heart surgery.
Joe was born on January 24, 1946, at West Raley Colony. In 1974, he moved to Goldridge Colony where he later married the love of his life Justina in 1975 and started a family. In 1984, he moved to Lomond Colony where he resided until his passing. Joe was Colony farm boss for many years until he became Colony secretary in 1997, a job he loved and did with pride and joy.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Justina; his son Marvin (Martha) and family; his daughters, J. Frieda, (Gideon) Melissa Stahl and families of Pleasant Valley; (Hank) Ruth of Copperfield; his brothers and sisters Darius, Ed (Lydia) Rach, Susanna, Marie (Mike), and Dorothy of Lomond. All who took such great care of him all the time and made sure he had “coffee”; Sara (Darius) of Warden, WA; Lydia (Walt) of Cameron; Annie (Joe) of Prairie Elk, MT; and Lizzy (Min. Paul) of Red Willow; his special aunt Anna, of West Raley Colony; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Waiting for him in heaven are his parents, Chris, and Barbara; his loving sister Barbara and brother-in-law Moses; and his son-in-law Min. John Stahl.
Joe was a blacksmith and plumber in his younger years, and he traveled far and wide helping out others. but what he loved most was farming. He loved the land, it’s creator and all that came with it. He took trials as they came, and never let anything discourage him. He also had a big heart for the widows and the children in the colonies and never hesitated to give whatever was needed. He was loved and welcomed wherever his presence was made known. Joe had many health issues throughout his life, but he was not one to complain. He was a solid pillar in the Colony and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 10:00 am at Lomond Colony.
Rest in peace, good and faithful servant. Your work on earth is done. Until we meet again…

CAMPBELL, Allen CAMPBELL ALLEN GARTH CAMPBELL, beloved husband of the late Anna Campbell passed away in Hill Spring on November 9, 2024 at the age of 90 years.

BRAUN, Gertrude GERTRUDE BRAUN 1930 – 2024 Gertrude Braun of Coaldale, beloved wife of Jake, passed away on November 6, 2024 at the age of 94 years.
A viewing will take place from 7 pm to 8 pm on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Coaldale Mennonite Church, 2316 – 17th St., Coaldale, AB. Funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Coaldale Mennonite Church. Gertrude will be privately laid to rest in the Coaldale Cemetery prior to the service. The service will be live streamed on the Coaldale Mennonite Church YouTube channel.

DUCE, Gary DUCE Gary Ray Duce, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, November 10th 2024 at the age of 71 years.
Gary was born in Cardston, Alberta on September 24, 1953 to Delbert and Imogene Duce. Besides his loving wife Sandra, he is survived by his children Cody and Kara; brother Dewayne Duce and sisters, Connie Molcak and Sharon Quinton. Gary was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took great pride in his faith. We are grateful for the privilege of sharing so many years with our Dad, husband and brother and although he will be dearly missed by his family and friends, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace and has been reunited with his heavenly family.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lethbridge Stake Centre on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11:00am with Bishop Stonehocker officiating, interment will follow at the Cardston Cemetery.

YAMASHITA, Ruriko “Lily” RURIKO “LILY” YAMASHITA 1925 – 2024 Ruriko (Lily) Yamashita beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2024, at the Chinook Regional Hospital, at the age of 99. She is the loving mother of Robert (Sharon Whatley) of Edmonton; Kathryn of Lethbridge; Geary (Cam) of Port Charlotte, Florida; Maureen (John Martini) of Osoyoos B.C.; and Linda (Bob Skelly) of Calgary. She is also survived by her sister June Tajiri; her sister-in-law Rose; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruriko is predeceased by her father Masuzo Okahashi and her mother Kikue Okano; her brothers George and Charlie; and her sisters Nancy Leong, Merry Sameshima and Reiko Takeyasu.
Ruriko or Lily as she was known to family and friends was born on April 26, 1925, in Port Hammond B.C. and grew up on a berry farm in Haney B.C. With the onset of WWII, she and her family were relocated to Coaldale, Alberta to work in the sugar beet fields. There she met and married Yasuo Yamashita and together created a lifetime of cherished memories, raising five children, on a busy potato farm in Vauxhall Alberta. She will be remembered for her intelligent, loving and gentle nature, her many interests and hobbies, and above all her zest for life.
A visitation with the family will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 am on November 16, 2024, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 STREET SOUTH, LETHBRIDGE, Alberta, with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 am.
