OLTEANU, Cornel CORNEL JOHN OLTEANU It is with great sadness and deep regret, we announce the sudden passing of Cornel John Olteanu on December 28, 2024 in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 64. Cornel will be sadly missed by his family and friends, especially his B&D Walter Trucking Family.
Cornel John Olteanu was born on March 12, 1960 in Brasov, Romania. He is pre-deceased by his parents John and Helena Olteanu. Cornel grew up in a small town outside of Brasov, Romania when it was still a communist country. He spent most of his teenage years’ cross country skiing and downhill skiing, which was a sport he loved and honed in his biathlon skills and made it to the Romanian Biathlon Team which participated in many world sporting events. He became an expert target shooter which anchored him in a spot on the Team for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
Cornel was kind, generous and extremely loyal to his friends, family and employers. In the end duration, Cornel was a respected member in his profession as a long haul truck driver at B&D Walter Trucking and will be greatly missed.
For those that wish to attend, a funeral service will be held at the Cornerstone Funeral home at 12:30PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 with interment to follow at Royal View Cemetery.
Cornel John Olteanu will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and colleagues.

DUNSTAN, Katherine KATHERINE DUNSTAN 1929 – 2025 Katherine Dunstan (née Reinheimer) of Lethbridge, passed away in the early morning hours on January 9, at the age of 95. She had been experiencing declining health for several months, and her loss is being, and will be, felt by all who knew and loved her.

HARMS, Jakob HARMS JAKOB HARMS, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Nettie Harms, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre with his family by his side, on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the age of 83 years.
A Funeral Service will be held at the LETHBRIDGE MENNONITE CHURCH, 4303 – 3 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ryan Dueck officiating. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Jakob’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
Following the Funeral Service, Jakob will be laid to rest in the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery.

SMITH, Lorne SMITH LORNE ORVIL SMITH, beloved eternal companion of Virginia Paxman Smith, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the Raymond Hospital at the age of 95.
Lorne is survived by his children: Danielle (Cori) Fehr of Raymond, Lorena (Aaron) Engen of Okotoks, Wendy (Rod) Bennett of Lethbridge, Lynn (Ron – deceased) Hill of Raymond, Colin (Camie) Smith of Portland, Orvil (Marilyn) Smith of Calgary, Cheryl (Roger) Lewis of Cardston, Diane (Trevor) Crane of Great Falls, 34 grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren.
Lorne was predeceased by his siblings: Arvilla (DeCon) Pitcher, Earl (Irene) Smith and Sharon (Chad) Howells.
Lorne was born on January 21, 1929, in Lethbridge, Alberta. He married his sweetheart, Virginia Paxman, on April 13th, 1955, in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They raised their family on a farm east of Champion near the homestead where he was raised. They were very blessed to live in such a close-knit community.
Lorne was very involved in his community and church. He enjoyed working with the youth but especially in the Boy Scout Program. He was President of the Good Sam Club where he and Virginia made many close friends. They loved to volunteer at the Soup Kitchen and at special community events at the Exhibition Grounds.
Lorne was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities including Temple Worker and Patriarch. He often shared his strong testimony and love for Jesus Christ.
Family was a priority for Lorne. He ensured his family had opportunities to work, play, and laugh together. He was known for his practical jokes, good and bad. He loved music and dancing. His philosophy was to work hard and play hard.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at 11:30 am, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel at 4105 Forestry Ave. S. The interment will follow at the Lethbridge Mountain View Cemetery.
Friends and relatives are invited to meet at the same chapel on January 17th, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm or prior to the funeral on Saturday, January 18th from 10:00 – 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Lethbridge Food Bank at 1016 – 2 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0C9.
