HOLLAND, Marion Marion Joyce Holland June 30th, 1927 – December 21st, 2024 Marion Joyce (Lindseth) Holland, 97, passed away peacefully in the early hours of December 21, 2024, at her residence in Calgary Alberta.
Joyce was born on June 30, 1927, in Calgary to Ole and Etta (Sundquist) Lindseth. She was raised in Calgary and graduated from Western Canada High School in 1946. Joyce was a wonderful storyteller who loved to share interesting and fun stories about her youth and family homestead in Stavely Alberta. For many decades, she enjoyed attending the Sundquist family reunions and catching up with her extended family there.
Joyce married the love of her life, Wayne Alonzo Holland, on September 1, 1947, in the First Lutheran Church in Calgary. As a testament to their love and devotion, Joyce and Wayne celebrated 73 wedding anniversaries together before Wayne passed away in February 2021.
Their first home was in Raymond Alberta where Joyce worked at the Walker Clinic. They welcomed their first child, Stewart, in 1949, who passed away the day after his arrival. In 1950 Joyce and Wayne relocated to Taber Alberta where they raised their seven children. Joyce returned to the workforce fifteen years later, accepting a position at the Taber General Hospital. She worked full-time, all the while raising seven children and attending evening classes in Lethbridge to become a Health Records Administrator. Joyce always kept an open door and spare bed available for her nieces and nephews, many of whom turned to her for advice and support.
Joyce was a determined and admired genealogist for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and, along with Wayne, worked tirelessly at the Cardston temple. In 2002, Joyce and Wayne moved to Lethbridge where they continued to travel, expand their church work, host family and friends, and enjoy their retirement.
In 2018, when Wayne’s health began to decline, they made the decision to move to St. Marguerite Manor in Calgary. This was a full circle decision for Joyce, returning to the city of her birthplace, where she and Wayne could be close to many family members. Joyce continued to reside at St. Marguerite Manor after Wayne passed in 2021, and she resumed working on her genealogy. Joyce was fully cognitive until her last days; she enjoyed receiving visitors, going out for drives, keeping up with emails and phone calls, and connecting with her extended family on Facebook.
Joyce will be dearly missed by her surviving children, Douglas (Valarie Shockey), Phillip (Heather Boyle), Michael, Stephanie, Wendy (Robert) Krause, Sandra, and Karen; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Wayne Holland, son Stewart, parents Ole and Etta Lindseth, brother Roy Lindseth, sister Gladys Kelner, daughter-in-law Debra (Donick) Holland and son-in-law James Olson.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Marguerite Manor for their compassionate care. Joyce considered the staff to be dear friends, and we know that they miss her deeply.
A family viewing took place on December 23, 2024. Cremation was entrusted to Choice Memorial Cremation and Funeral Services. A gathering for family and friends to celebrate the lives of Joyce and Wayne followed by an interment at the Temple Hill Cemetery will take place in the spring of 2025.
