THIESSEN, Iva THIESSEN IVA JUNE THIESSEN passed away peacefully in her sleep at Cedar Creek Adaptacare on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the age of 92 years.
Iva is survived by her son David (Mary-Anne); and daughters, Barb Larson and Beverly (Scott) Smith. She was a loving grandmother to Tracy Thiessen, Braden Larson (Kristin Paterson), Randal Larson, Karissa Smith (Mike Beckley) and Kyle Smith (Danielle Smienk); great-grandmother to Jordynn and Wyatt Larson; and a very special sister-in-law Georgina Bennett; and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Albert & Nina (Langworthy) Bennett; her loving husband of 58 years, Ike Thiessen; her twin brother Irvine James Bennett and her sister Ethel who passed in infancy.
Iva was born May 16, 1932 on the family farm in Armada, Alberta to Albert and Nina Bennett, along with her twin brother, Irvin. Mom had many fond memories of growing up on the farm. Sundays were her favorite day as they would always have lots of company and she always enjoyed seeing her cousins. Iva’s first job was as a bank teller in Vulcan, which she enjoyed for many years. After moving to Lethbridge, she met the love of her life, Ike, whom she married in April 1957. Ike & Iva purchased the hotel in Lomond, which kept them very busy, and after a few years, they decided to slow down a bit and move to Lethbridge. Iva joined Nord-bridge Seniors Centre and enjoyed many hours playing darts and floor curling, where she earned many medals. Both Mom and Dad remained very active at Nord-bridge, taking many bus trips to various destinations – especially if they had a casino. Some of Mom’s favorite adventures were taking her grandchildren on camping trips to BC.
Mom was a very special person, whom was adored by anyone who had the chance to meet her. She always looked forward to her weekly visits from her grand-dogs Lucy, Dozer and Maizey. She never complained and always had a witty remark up her sleeve. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Even at the age of 92, her mind as sharp as a whip but her body became very tired.
As per her request, no funeral service will be held. A private celebration of life will be held by family.
