DAY CHIEF, Gracie DAY CHIEF It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Gracie Jane (Ni’tainskiiaaki) Day Chief announce her passing on February 7, 2025. Gracie is survived by her companion Regan Running Rabbit, brothers Rylan (Tahnee) Red Crow and Colton Day Chief, sister Alisha Eagle Plume and sister-in-law Mandy Creighton. Her nieces, Harlow and Kynleigh; nephews, Briggs, Baylor, Braxton, Beau and Leo; Grandma Velma; Uncle Mylon Red Crow and Aunt Roxanne Scout; and extended Red Crow and Day Chief families. Gracie was born to proud parents Christy and Joe Day Chief. Gracie was Daddy’s little girl and Mommy’s baby. Godfrey and Velma took over as her parents, and they loved her company as her sense of humor was just like her grandpa Godfrey and mom Christy. As a child, Gracie grew up knowing the traditional way of life and became a proud member of the Brave Dog Society. Gracie had a beautiful paint horse named “Hank” that meant so much to her. Hank led her to dabble in barrel racing. Being a sister to a bull rider, Gracie had no choice but to be one of the boys to travel to rodeos along with mom. Indian squeeze was the way to go. The boys turned her into a feisty little girl, always bossing her brothers around and always had a good comeback. They had the utmost respect for each other, and they were very protective of her. Gracie had a big heart and cherished her nieces and nephews and cared deeply for her grandma Velma, by doing this she overcame many losses in her life including her parents, brother, and grandpa. The last year of Gracie’s life, she was better known as Auntie-Mommy to her 3 nephews Briggs, Bayler, Braxton and nieces, Harlow and Kynleigh. Gracie met her companion Regan, and together had many adventures and great times travelling and exploring. They had many hilarious stories to share and memories to cherish. Regan became an inspiration for Gracie; she applied to return to school, finding her own place and worked on her plans, goals and dreams. Thank you, Regan. Gracie’s sense of humor, laughter, pranks and giggles, will be missed by all and cherished forever. Gracie was predeceased by parents, Joe and Christy Day Chief, brother Cody Day Chief; uncles Godfrey Red Crow Jr., and Leon Day Chief; grandparents: Godfrey Red Crow, Elizabeth and Leo Day Chief. Also other family members, too numerous to mention. The family would like to thank Chinook Regional Hospital ICU Staff, Indigenous Wellness Core, Samantha First Charger, Ann Fox and Keenan Weasel Moccasin.
A Wake Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Thursday, February 13 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home on Friday, February 14 at 11:00 am. The interment will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Stand Off, AB.

THIESSEN, Iva THIESSEN IVA JUNE THIESSEN passed away peacefully in her sleep at Cedar Creek Adaptacare on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the age of 92 years.
Iva is survived by her son David (Mary-Anne); and daughters, Barb Larson and Beverly (Scott) Smith. She was a loving grandmother to Tracy Thiessen, Braden Larson (Kristin Paterson), Randal Larson, Karissa Smith (Mike Beckley) and Kyle Smith (Danielle Smienk); great-grandmother to Jordynn and Wyatt Larson; and a very special sister-in-law Georgina Bennett; and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Albert & Nina (Langworthy) Bennett; her loving husband of 58 years, Ike Thiessen; her twin brother Irvine James Bennett and her sister Ethel who passed in infancy.
Iva was born May 16, 1932 on the family farm in Armada, Alberta to Albert and Nina Bennett, along with her twin brother, Irvin. Mom had many fond memories of growing up on the farm. Sundays were her favorite day as they would always have lots of company and she always enjoyed seeing her cousins. Iva’s first job was as a bank teller in Vulcan, which she enjoyed for many years. After moving to Lethbridge, she met the love of her life, Ike, whom she married in April 1957. Ike & Iva purchased the hotel in Lomond, which kept them very busy, and after a few years, they decided to slow down a bit and move to Lethbridge. Iva joined Nord-bridge Seniors Centre and enjoyed many hours playing darts and floor curling, where she earned many medals. Both Mom and Dad remained very active at Nord-bridge, taking many bus trips to various destinations – especially if they had a casino. Some of Mom’s favorite adventures were taking her grandchildren on camping trips to BC.
Mom was a very special person, whom was adored by anyone who had the chance to meet her. She always looked forward to her weekly visits from her grand-dogs Lucy, Dozer and Maizey. She never complained and always had a witty remark up her sleeve. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Even at the age of 92, her mind as sharp as a whip but her body became very tired.
As per her request, no funeral service will be held. A private celebration of life will be held by family.
