Wally will be forever missed and fondly remembered with tremendous love by his son Danny, daughter Toni-Rae (Doug), son Guy (Rodica) and his eight grandchildren: Kyle, Taylor (Andreana) and Jared Prusky, James, Jessica and Adam Hummel, and Valentin (Liz) and Dragosh (Sierra) Castravet. He is also survived by his sisters: Diane Nelson, Betty Baldwin, Ruth (Rick) Melvin, Amy (Chuck) Bradley, Doris (Jim) Slag, and his brother Roy (Gail) Hummel. He will be greatly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws & his coffee friends in both Milk River, AB and Mill Bay, BC. And we can’t forget all his travel companions. Wally tackled that travel bucket list with the greatest enthusiasm and success. Machu Picchu was the only one left on the list, which he will confidently visit in the afterlife.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria, who he was madly in love with, his brothers, Dale and Mark Hummel, his sister Joanne Rolfe, his brothers-in-law: Bill Nelson, Dale Baldwin & Gordon Rolfe, and his parents Bob & Beth Hummel.
Wally was born on October 19, 1941, in Lethbridge, Alberta. He grew up on the family farm with his nine siblings, five miles northeast of Milk River. His Dad, Bob, bought a school bus in 1955 so he could drive the kids back and forth to Milk River School. Milk River School is where he met the love of his life, Gloria, at the age of 12. They were inseparable from the start. He and Gloria were at the top of their class, achieving numerous awards. Wally was an early adopter of technology, farming strategies, and many other worldly advancements. Wally was an avid traveller, was in incredible shape, sporting a six-pack right up until the end, and an astute entrepreneur.
A highlight of his later years was living in Mill Bay, BC. He loved spending time at the ocean with family, particularly his sister-in-law Bonnie and her husband, Larry (deceased), and his numerous friends.
He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as a man who loved his family, conquered the world his way, and never turned down a new adventure. He absolutely adored his grandkids and was really proud of all of their achievements, coaching them on business at every opportunity. Grandpa Wally will live in the hearts of his children and grandchildren forever.
A Celebration of Wally’s life will be held at the MILK RIVER CIVIC CENTRE, 321 3rd Avenue N.E., Milk River, AB, on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 2:00 P.M., where we will celebrate the incredible man Wally was.
