HOFSINK, Jan “Henk” JAN “HENK” HOFSINK 1931 – 2025 How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord. Ps 84:1, 2 On March 15, 2025, the Lord called home our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Henk (Jan Hendrik) Hofsink of Coaldale, Alberta.
Henk’s life was guided by his Heavenly Father, trusting Him in all things. He was our anchor, a strong pillar in his family as well as his church. We knew we were always in his thoughts and prayers.
Henk was born on December 9, 1931, in Bergentheim, Netherlands, the third of nine children. He immigrated to Houston, British Columbia with his family in 1948, where he worked in the bush. He shared many memories of falling and skidding trees during those early years. Henk met Maggie Leffers in 1955, and they married in 1956. They moved to Southern Alberta in 1959 where he farmed for 40 years. God blessed him with a love for farming, especially growing sugar beets. Even in his retirement he would drive out to check the progress of the beets in every season. In 2001, they retired and moved to their home in Coaldale. They enjoyed many summers camping and fishing in Western Canada, especially in the Houston area with extended family. Henk loved to smoke fish, which he shared with friends and family. He was an avid reader and puzzler and loved solving the daily sudoku.
Henk is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Maggie; his brothers Bill, George, and Ben (Dorothy); sisters Minnie Nyman and Gina Brienen; his children Regina (Harold) Wierenga, Ron (Jackie) Hofsink, Irene (Dave) Gelderman, Rose (Glenn) Tams, Bill (Laura) Hofsink, Ed (Dorothy) Hofsink; as well as twenty-three grandchildren and fifty-seven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three of his siblings Margie, Fred, and Sophie; his grandson Robby Gelderman, as well as several in-laws.
An Interment will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 20, at the COALDALE COMMUNITY CEMETERY.
A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm, at the CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 2705 21 AVENUE, COALDALE, Alberta, with Reverend J. Huijgen officiating.
