WOOLF, Sheldon SHELDON DEVOE WOOLF 1934 – 2025 Sheldon DeVoe Woolf passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the age of 91 in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Sheldon was born in 1934, in Cardston, Alberta to Sheldon DeVoe Sr. “Ki” and Martha “Mitz” Woolf. He was raised with a father who was an avid sportsman, painter and “Coach” to many, so naturally he was raised with a love of sports and a strong work ethic. Growing up in Cardston his world revolved around basketball, behind the home plate in baseball, and painting alongside his father. His love of the game kept him in High School an extra year. It was while playing baseball in Waterton that he met his first love Afton Louise Skipworth. They were married in June of 1956 when Louise graduated from High School and then the real “game” of life began! They lived in Cardston where he worked at Beaver Lumber for 5 years, before venturing out of the hometown. They moved around Alberta trying to find where they wanted to call home. This led them to Barons, Barrhead, Edmonton, and then finally Lethbridge with 4 kids now in tow, Sheldeen, Robert, James “Jim” and Sharon.
Sheldon went to work at the Lethbridge Community College in 1966 as the Financial Administrator where he worked for 25 years before retiring. While there, he found the joy of the game of golf with many colleagues. It was during this time in 1979 that his sweetheart Louise lost her 10 year battle with Multiply Sclerosis and the next year lost his son Jim to an automobile accident which left this strong, loving, quiet, loyal man very heartbroken.
Gratefully he was able to find love again with Joyce McKenney and in 1985 they were married in Lethbridge. Not long after that they both retired and began 26 years of being snowbirds to Mesa, Arizona. They both loved the sun! Together they golfed, hiked, danced, camped and went to the movies every Tuesday. They enjoyed all this with their family, special friends, and many others they met along the way. Sheldon was also very crafty with woodwork and making walking sticks from cactus which he made for many of his family and friends. Along with all of this they still found time to just sit and read.
Besides his loving wife Joyce, Sheldon leaves to mourn his passing, his children Sheldeen Edison, Robert (Mary) Woolf, Sharon (Larry) Austin, Debbie (Matt) Woelders, and Shelley Brandy (Ron Mallett); along with 10 grandchildren and their families that all call him Grandpa; as well as numerous extended family.
We would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Park Meadows Village that made him feel loved and cared for the last year of his life.
A Celebration of Sheldon’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2216 21A Ave, Coaldale, Alberta.
