BINKLEY, Ricky “Rick” BINKLEY, Ricky “Rick” August 1, 1958 – April 26, 2025 It is with heavy hearts and great love that we announce the loss of Rick Binkley, who passed away surrounded by family on April 26, 2025, at the age of 66. Rick leaves behind a wealth of love, including his wife Trish of 44 years of marriage and 46 years as partners; children Elana Binkley (Joe Johnston), Jelea (Joel) Kistenfeger, and Robbie Binkley; grandchildren Brynn Johnston, Porter Johnston, Iris Kistenfeger, and Ronin Kistenfeger; and siblings Bob Binkley (Shirley Cook), Manse Binkley (Anna Hunt-Binkley), and Laurie (Kevin) Hooke. He will also be greatly missed by mother-in-law Dorothy Smith-Harris; sisters-in-law Jeannie (Grant) Watson, Lea Johnson, and Ann Feliksiak Smith (Mark Ruppe) ; brothers-in-law Rob Smith (Lisa Clarke), and Tom Smith (Cyndi Jackson); nephews Casey, Brock, and Quinn, Brandon (Michelle), Donovan, Tyler (Gabby), and Kyle; and nieces Hailey (Derek), Kara (Chuck), Kristen, Ashleigh (Pat), Chelsea (Ivan), Mikayla, Mattie (Alex), Emma (Brett), and Alyssa (Chris). He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his parents Vic and Mae Binkley and father-in-law, Don Smith. Born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Rick’s childhood was lively, between growing up in Brandon and summers spent at the family cottage in Clear Lake, the memories flow endlessly. Listening to the stories from family to friends; he clearly had a one of a kind personality. Clear Lake is where I met this cute redhead, a blind date, me from Neepawa Manitoba; and not sure what to expect; but the connection and love was instant. Rick made life a joy, fun factor was first of hand, and we had many, many adventures in our life together. But the most beautiful adventure of all was raising our 3 amazing children. Rick loved nothing more than teaching them the way of the mountains snow skiing/snowboarding, loved our boating time- waterskiing then wake surfing throw in a little wakeboarding (kids only) and the odd tube ride, mountain biking, hiking and every televised sport there was, the list is endless. We had the time of our lives. The new next level of adventure in our lives; our grandchildren and we have 4 precious little ones, Iris 8 years, Ronin 5 years, Brynn 7 years and Porter 3 years. We are truly blessed, the action packed fun…. Endless. Ricks career path was adventurous as well, whisking our family off to the Yukon in ’92, then Alberta in ’99, retiring early and loving our lake life in BC and winters in Arizona. We couldn’t have had anything more beautiful. We are missing you Rick, your famous quote to me, “follow me, you will go places”, and we sure did. Our family would like to express many thanks to the healthcare staff from Trail to Kelowna, Hospice House Kelowna, family, friends and to all the support staff. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Hospice House Kelowna, http://www.hospicehousekelowna.com. We will remember you forever, let the “tunes” flow Rick; you love your music. Sending all our Love to you Rick, Dad (“Papa Surf”) & Grandpa. A Private Celebration of Life will be held in Rick’s honour at a later date.

WHIMSTER, Donald “Don” WHIMSTER July 26, 1968 – February 27, 2025 DONALD “DON” FRASER WHIMSTER passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, at the age of 56 years old.
Don is survived by his mother, Patricia Whimster; son Nick Bartosek-Whimster; sister Trish Whimster (Emily); sister Shannon Collier; nephew Brady Collier; nieces, Kyra Collier (Jessy), Kaylene Neufeld, Kelcey Aleman (Ryan) and their children Waylon and Kylee; his aunt Cheryl O’Donnell and Aunt Sue O’Donnell; cousins: Mike O’Donnell (Cheralan), Tara VanZeggelaar (Darren), Brad O’Donnell, Cody O’Donnell (Bailey), Jeff O’Donnell (Patricia), Dustin O’Donnell (Taya), Lacey Jote (Sol); and his fun loving and always helpful cousin, Coreen Warnock.
He was predeceased by his father, John Whimster; sister Jennifer Whimster-Neufeld; brother-in-law, Clint Collier; grandparents, Thelma and Fred O’Donnell; Grammy Jean Whimster; as well as his uncles: Dennis, Terry and Jim O’Donnell.
Don grew up in Lethbridge and attended Catholic school from Kindergarten to Grade 12. He received his sacraments at St. Basil’s Catholic Church on the northside of Lethbridge. Sunday suppers at Grandma’s house, in Picture Butte, were a cherished memory for him while growing up. Don graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1986. From there, he went on to manage a service station and later drove truck for his uncle Jimmy. Don loved to joke and laugh and was known for his silly nature and quick sarcastic wit. On many occasions, he would fill a room with laughter!
In his younger years, Don played hockey, baseball, and football. Family, friends and meaningful connections were an important part of what he valued as a person. He was always accepting of those around him regardless of their circumstances.
Family was his most cherished gift in life, and he always felt our unconditional love for him!
As Rudyard Kipling put beautifully in his poem “If”, “If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two impostors just the same…You are a better man than most.”
Downturns are not permanent defeats, and successes are not ultimate triumphs. How we face our setbacks, with resilience, and accept our successes, with grace, are important measures of our worth as individuals.
May Don rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.
An interment service will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY (Scenic Drive S.) on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. ELNISKI, Bruce BRUCE ELNISKI 1951 ~ 2025 Bruce Elniski of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Joanne Lavkulich, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2025, at the age of 73.
Bruce is deeply missed by his wife Joanne; his sons Timothy and David (Katy), and grandchildren Mack and Susan; his daughter Alexa (Sun Bear Jackson); his sisters Susan (Cliff Norum) and Judy (Martin Giesbrecht); his brothers Doug and Richard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnifred and Steven Elniski, Bruce pursued post-secondary studies at the University of Alberta before discovering his passion for electronics engineering. He went on to study at NAIT, launching a long and varied career that included a notable tenure with Apple Computer, where he contributed to the launch of the first Macintosh computer.
Bruce and Joanne made their home in Lethbridge after living in Edmonton and Calgary, and after traveling widely across Canada, the United States, Europe, and South America. He was a devoted and patient father who could often be found camping with his family, leading Boy Scout meetings, taking great pride in having the biggest bonfires of any troop, or loading everyone into the car for a cross-country adventure to a Scout Jamboree in Prince Edward Island.
Bruce worked for many years at Lethbridge College, including in an outreach program on the Blood Reserve, before joining the Holy Spirit School Division, where he was known as the go-to IT support guy – always helpful, always kind. He brought warmth, humour, and a love of learning to every interaction, and genuinely enjoyed helping others. He had an insatiable curiosity and a love of reading across many topics.
Bruce’s lifelong love for Joanne began at NAIT, where she worked in the library and he was a dedicated student. They married in 1979, the same year they adopted two kittens – the first of many. Bruce was an animal lover, and if a cat in need showed up at his door, it found a home.
He gave generously to others, through time and energy, supporting causes close to his heart: social justice, education, and community well-being. He was a longtime supporter of Amnesty International and the John Howard Society, volunteered at the local soup kitchen, sponsored children through Plan Canada for over 50 years, and stood with CUPE education workers in their efforts for fair compensation. Whether carrying a banner, wiring up a sound system, or helping someone with a stubborn computer, Bruce was the kind of person who simply made things work – and made people feel seen. His pride in being Canadian was evident in his advocacy, his values, and the enthusiastic way he sang the National Anthem.
As an O-Negative universal blood donor, Bruce gave close to 150 blood/plasma donations in his lifetime, and then gave the ultimate gift of organ donation, continuing to save lives after he had passed.
Though Bruce worked in IT, it was the human connections that mattered most to him. He often said his work felt like retirement – because he enjoyed it so much. He passed away while still employed and valued the companionship of his colleagues, especially his friend and supervisor, Regan.
Bruce loved his family deeply and adored being a grandfather, fully embracing his roles as teller of “Dad jokes”, and as Santa Claus during the holidays. He had a happy smile and a contagious laugh. Bruce will be remembered for his intelligence, wit, generosity, and steadfast commitment to those he loved. He lived with curiosity, compassion, and quiet strength.
A Celebration of Life will be held in early July to allow family and friends from near and far to gather in his honour. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to do an act of kindness or charity for someone in need, in Bruce’s memory.
