KARL, Reinhold REINHOLD KARL 1932 ~ 2025 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Reinhold Karl of Foremost, Alberta. Reinhold passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa in Lethbridge, AB on Tuesday August 12 at the age of 93. Reinhold was surrounded by his family, including his beloved wife of 67 years, Isobel Karl.
Reinhold was born on February 25 in Birdsholm AB, the fifth child to Carl and Katherine Karl. He was born and raised on the farm south of Foremost and graduated from Foremost High School and then started his working career with the Royal Bank. Reinhold would soon return to Foremost and begin a 27-year career as a grain buyer for UGG that lasted until his retirement in 1988. Reinhold truly loved farming and pursued this passion first while working at UGG and then again later in retirement when he and Tim worked the farm together from 1982 until 2010. There was nothing as fulfilling to him as working the land, be it in the field or Tim and Sandy’s large garden.
Reinhold was very active in the Foremost community, participating and coaching many sports. Reinhold also loved the theatre and was cast in Fiddler on the Roof. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church and was a member of a number of service clubs, most notably Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club. Reinhold was a proud, long-standing member of the Foremost Golf Club. He served as Mayor of Foremost from 1969 to 1973, and oversaw the opening of the reservoir. Reinhold could always be counted on to coordinate the crew and to flip his share of pancakes for breakfast on rodeo weekend. Reinhold was the person who could be depended on to fill any role, including those in leadership, but there was no job too big or too small for him to tackle.
After retirement, Reinhold and Isobel spent many winters in Arizona with friends who became like family to them, staying in contact to this day. Reinhold had a wonderful sense of humour and was always ready with a quick quip. Reinhold had a great love of music and could sing a relevant tune for any occasion and certainly loved to dance, especially a good polka. Reinhold lived with the belief that there were no strangers, just friends he hadn’t made yet.
Reinhold was not only a loving husband but a dedicated and caring father, grandfather, and brother. Reinhold was always a great supporter of all of his children and grandchildren’s activities and could be counted on to be at any and all sporting events, concerts and recitals. Besides his loving wife Isobel, Reinhold is survived by daughter Frances Thorson and children Garrett Thorson (Danielle Larose), Amy Caufield (Greg), Craig Thorson; daughter-in-law Sandy Karl and children Cassy Karl (Phil Mercer), Corbin Karl (Cindy Ruiz) and their children (great-grand children Lukas and Luna); daughter Leslie Larson (Kyle), and children Karly Lecavalier (Sarah), Kaylin Larson (Kaden Hanas) and Justine Larson (George Kahlben). Reinhold is also survived by his sisters Irene Lynes, Kate Black, Doris Wolfe and Pauline Hougen and brother George Karl. Reinhold was predeceased by his parents Carl and Katherine, brothers Floyd and Ernie, son Tim, and son-in-law Gerry Thorson.
The family would like to extend our thanks to the doctors and nurses of Unit 3A, and the palliative care team of Dr Walters and Waller, as well as the excellent staff of 2W at St Therese. We will be eternally grateful for the love and care you gave to Mom and Dad in his final days.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 30, 2025 at 1pm at the Foremost Community Hall, Pastor Carolyn Langford officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Foremost Golf Club. Cheques may be mailed to: Foremost Golf Club, Box 382, Foremost AB T0K 0X0; or you may send an e-transfer to
